When we arrived our table wasn't ready even though we had a reservation so we headed to the bar. We started off with the large margaritas which was likely the best value of the night at $20, but questionable how much tequila was actually in them. We then both munched on chips and salsa (which took over 15 minutes to arrive) and ordered enchiladas as a main. We were STARVING at the end of it. They came as two tiny corn tortillas and $16 a piece. I'm fine if you want to bring smaller entrees, but these weren't in the small plate section so I just wasn't expecting it. My boyfriend and I left date night and headed over to La Palapa for a real dinner. Suggest you do the same.
It was good food but the drinks were extremely expensive and too sweet. If you want great margaritas then it is definitely not the place but the food was good and well priced.
The food is always great but the service always disappoints. From not properly greeting the table, never checking in after meal arrives and prematurely dropping the check without being asked for it, all service points are never met.
Delicious Duck, Steak Fajitas, Mojitos-- food and drink were exceptional in a comfortable setting. Enjoyed. We will be back.
Great Service and Food. Its a regular for us. Great food and Margaritas.
Pretty plain looking and small, I wasn't expecting much when we walked in. Tables are small and spaced tightly.
Chips and guacamole and especially their salsa were excellent, as well as our appetizers and entries. Wasn't expecting the food to be that good.
Reserved at table for a party of 6 on a Saturday, unfortunately two people in our party were running very late. The bar was packed so there was no place to wait comfortably, which was exacerbated by pouring rain outside.
The waitstaff was incredibly nice and worked to seat the four of us, even though the rest of the party had not arrived. In my experience, many other restaurants would have simply given our table away and we would have waited in the rain, looking like wet puppies. The waitstaff really saved the night and we all happily drank margaritas. The food was excellent, I'd stick w/the traditional margs, instead of the flavored though.
Extremely nice host! Excellent tacos.. server happily gave me his reccomendation. Grande margaritas were definitely grande!
Food was great but the portions were kind of small
IT WAS LIT GIMME MORE POINTS
Terrible food, not authentic at all. No music playing, people are screaming and tables are too close to one another.
Cocktails were delicious though.
Food was pretty good! Can't say it was the best Mexican I have ever had by any means, but the margaritas were good. A little crowded inside, but overall made for a fun dinner with friends.
Went one lunchtime so it was relatively quiet. The waitress, who also ran the bar, was really friendly and efficient and gave good advice - stopping us from over ordering food! Enjoyed everything.
The best burrito I've ever had. The margaritas were top notch too.
I have been coming to El Camion almost since its opening. The restaurant has never disappointed me. My husband and I now use it exclusively when we have friends in from out of town. The fist dishes are always fresh and excellently prepared, their mole sauce is the best I have ever had and if you are looking for lighter fare the black bean salad is a good choice.
Happy hour ends at 6pm on Fridays and Saturdays
Everyone is always nice and the food is fantastic!
The food was pretty good. The staff however wasn't very attentive. It took a while to get just drinks alone. The waitress that took our orders refused to ask the cook to slightly customize our order and then never came back to our table after placing the order. Only came to get the check. Wasn't very happy with my experience.
Great ambiance. Good food and service. A little loud but fun!
We really enjoyed a casual dinner here. Great food at a reasonable price. The manager was so nice and he really gave his all to make sure we, and others, were taken care of with food and drinks. We'll definitely come back.
very Nice Staff ! very Good Dishes ! very accommodating when making "our" drinks = xx
nic local Mexican recommended, busy local crowd. food tasted genuine and fresh
Worth it !!!! Food was great, my son enjoyed it and his god mother. DRINKS WERE GREAT!
Recommended from a friend and they didn't disappoint! Service was great, food tasty and overall a good experience. Must try their margaritas, either for happy hour or brunch! Will certainly return.
Horrible costumer service. Made a reservation for 7:15 and was not seated until 8:30. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
arrived for an 8:00pm reservation - large crowd at the check-in desk. Table was not ready; we waited 20 minutes to be seated (meanwhile, groups who showed up with no reservation were seated ahead of us). When we asked for an update, the staff was completely unhelpful - they just couldn't muster a care. We were on the verge of walking out when our table finally opened. The waiter told us the house would comp us a round of drinks, but they ended up charging us for them anyway. We were too disgusted to care anymore.
The food was good. The frozen margariatas were amazing but a bit pricey for the size you get. You can get a frozen margarita at blockheads for $5 that is bigger. But overall we enjoyed everything.
Service was great. The drinks were super strong. Brunch selections are plentiful. I will return. The bartender who assisted us Danny was great.
Great food and staff.
Went for a friends birthday, the food was good but the service was sparse and they failed to serve the birthday girl a dessert, which I had requested in advance. That being said, the place was packed and the food was decent!
This place was just okay. The Margarita was watery and awful. The fish tacos were bland and on cold tortillas. The salmon was delicious though.
Great neighborhood place. Love the drinks food and staff. But the noise not so much. You can hardly hear each other at a table. Would be so worth adding something to ceiling to help with the sound...
Always great food here. Love the place. Four different orders and everyone loved everything.
Fantastic meal - everything was really enjoyable
The food and the place were great but although we reserved a table we needed to wait half an hour.
El Camion is our go-to for Mexican food in NYC, and we're from Texas. The meats all taste amazing, tortillas and guacamole are fresh and tasty, really I can't say enough good things. Margaritas taste great, but all in all it's pricey for Mexican food. If you don't mind paying a bit more than average, you can't go wrong with El Camion, for brunch or for dinner.
This was my third going to El Camion and I think my last.
The noise level is very unpleasant, the food wasn't great and our waiter was terrible.
I could deal with the noise level once in a while and even excuse a bad waiter, but when the food sucks, there's no reason to go back.
Great food, good prices but not big portions. The atmosphere was fun, although very loud!
I've been here several times at quieter times and although the earthy aesthetic is a bit tired at this point, the food is excellent and very reasonable. Not a typical Tex-Mex menu at all, and surprisingly well done and presented. However this particular visit was a Friday evening and it was LOUD, LOUD, LOUD, LOUD, LOUD. OPPRESSIVELY LOUD. U NCOMMFORTABLY LOUD. ANNOYINGLY LOUD. Could not hear the person next to you, let alone across the table. WHAT'S THE POINT OF GOING OUT WITH FRIENDS IF YOU HAVE TO TEXT THEM TO HAVE A CONVERSATION? No, we didn't actually text each other but even shouting was a "What? Huh?" all night. Usually this is a function of overly loud music but, frankly, I didn't notice that. It was the din of the diners. I honestly don't know how the staff here or anyone else can deal with it.
Food was good, waitress was wonderful, happy hour margaritas were so watered down, they tasted like fruit juice. We have been here several times, perhaps owners trying to save money but they lost three faithful customers.
