About
Who we are? El Burrito Mercado is a St Paul mainstay owned by Mexican immigrant Silva family since 1979 and is now owned and operated by first and second generation Silva daughters Milissa, Suzanne and granddaughter Analita, all women owned and operated. We are proud to have expanded to Minneapolis in 2018 with our restaurant and cantina and excited to be a part of the South Mpls neighborhood.
We are happy there is a new Mexican Restaurant where Pepito’s was! The food was very good but I was disappointed there weren’t any dinner combinations; e.g., tacos and enchiladas. You can order separately. Would love a few more options on the menu. They took out the booths so the dining room looks a bit sparse. Service was a bit slow and it wasn’t busy.
We attended as part of Restaurant Week and the prepared menu was fantastic. Was a very enjoyable experience and a great spot for a date!
I was pleasantly surprised with everything. I brought 5 of us for my oldest daughter' birthday. We made reservations and were seated promptly. The flow was efficient and the food was very authentic. The service staff were very gracious. Yes, we would definitely go back.
Service was extremely slow but the food was outstanding.
Good was good, but the fajitas are just average. Get the Burrito Extravaganza. Server did not bring more tortillas when requested.
Great place run by a great family. Excellent food and service. Glad that the old Pepitos is continuing to live on as a Mexican restaurant!
We got seated in the bar, would have preferred the quieter dining room. Then the servers were confused about who had our table, so anything server #1 did was repeated/eavesdropped by server #2. Food was nothing to rush back for, and we probably won't be back. They seemed to want to get us out of there as fast as possible, the whole time felt very rushed and not relaxing at all. Seems like the excellent experience we had back in January has been wiped out by reverting to Pepito's recipes? We were not fans of Pepitos and initially liked this place a lot more but this most recent experience changed that.
Had the spicy shrimp dinner. It was not very spicy but it was delicious. My husband had the chicken mole which he also enjoyed. We love El Burrito. So nice to have it in South Minneapolis so we don’t have to drive to St. Paul.
Service was terrible--they were not at all flexible
food was bland---
Good food, fine service, large portions noise wasn't bad and it was cool
Nice neighborhood place. Better food than Pepitos.
El Burrito has become a family favorite
Brunch buffett is amazing! The food is delicious and the staff is always smiling and very pleasant! Love the new location in Minneapolis!❤
We enjoyed seeing the renovation of Pepitos for the first time and loved the food. We had a shrimp dish that was delicious and all the traditional Mexican fare we ordered - chicken enchiladas and tacos - were also very good. The decor is serviceable but I felt that it could be more inviting with a few minor changes. Even adding white paper tablecloths with red votive candles on the tables, and maybe colorful cushions on the chairs, would improve the feel and would better match the elevated menu of the restaurant. Also, adding color on the walls - maybe a warm gold - would warm up the atmosphere.
The music was fun and added some liveliness to the setting although it was a touch loud and made it difficult for the servers to hear their customers. That said, we would definitely come back.
We showed up on time for our reservation. No tables were available, as they allow seat your self. Very frustrating. Eventually a table opened up, but others wanted to grab it. Long wait for service, drinks & food. Food was good. I would try this place again, hoping service has improved.
Food was excellent! Sat in the bar area which was a little noisy but not overwhelming to our conversation. Appetizer and entrees ordered together and arrived too close together- next time will order separately.
Wonderful restaurant great service and food
Food is good, atmosphere is meh. Very stark feeling for Mexican restaurant
The food was mediocre, the service was not good. They had 1 server for a full packed restaurant on a restaurant week day. They were not prepared for a lunch rush of that magnitude I’m sure. But my food came out cold, I got my meal before my chips & salsa which was meant to be an appetizer, the server kept forgetting about me and my orders. It just wasn’t a good first impression for me.
They didn’t prep for restaurant week so our lunch service was really rough. The food was just ok.
Excellent food. Went for lunch during restaurant week Feb. 2019. Loved it. Recommend the vegetarian burrito bowl.
We dined here as part of Restaurant Week 2019.
The food was good, atmosphere was good, service felt a little slower than I would have liked.
Enjoyed the food and feel it's a great place to gather. We intend on gathering there again!
We went for restaurant week. The menu and options were great, my husband and I each got an app, entrée and dessert. Our food was hot, the service was prompt and the food was great! We will definitely be back.
We happened upon this restaurant during restaurant week. It is authentic, EXCELLENT Mexican cuisine, served by a delightful staff. And the cocktails were just as good as the food.
We will go back!!!
This was our first visit since they took over this location. They had a two-piece band for Valentine’s Day. They did a great job handling the holiday. We will definitely be back.
Fantastic!!!!
