We’ve always wanted to try 849. I think my expectations were too high. Its a great patio, with nice ambiance and views. The prices were right in line. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre at best, and the service was a bit frustrating. I think I expected a better menu. It was quite boring.

Loved the cool vibe and ambiance, warm hostess welcome, friendly and attentive wait staff and service all thru dinner, broad selection of food options, and the central location! Restaurant also went out of their way to help us celebrate our anniversary by finding us a quiet and romantic table for two in the corner, and bringing us 2 glasses of champagne. It was a perfect night! 🥰

The pear salad was divine and the Cobb salad was delicious! We shared an order of lobster croquettes which were crispy and flavorful. The ambiance seems very Palm Springs.

Charcuterie board was great, the Chicken Milanese was exceptional, the melon soup was incredible (worth a visit just to have this amazing soup), and the buttermilk chicken was moist and tender, but the breading lacked seasoning on its coating unfortunately (we wish the coating had the seasoning we have experienced at Willie’s in Rancho Mirage). It is always a pleasure to dine at 849! We will be back. PS: Recommendation for chairs: All of us felt that pads on the bottom of the chairs would alleviate the harsh sound of the chairs scraping on the concrete floor…a minor concern considering the joy of our experience last night. Thanks 849 for another lovely dinner experience.

This is one of our top brunch places in Palm Springs. The seating options are many, patio, bar area high tops or several smaller dining rooms, all are wonderful. The food is consistantly good as is the service.. usually. Yesterday or waitress basically deserted us after taking our order. We all had the mimossa special with 3 refills, she never came back once to check on the drinks or if we were enjoying our food. I had to flag her down to get one refill, and again had to flag her down for the check after we sat there for a good 10 minutes with all plates cleared. It won't stop us from coming back, I just hope the next time we get the great service we always had in the past.

Food was good. Service was ok, minimal touch points throughout the night. We were sat in the back, near the kitchen, or near where dishes and silverware were being washed/handled/something….lots of clanging and very loud. And we were right next to the powder room so lots and lots of traffic going by the table.

We were there with a large group of 12 women for a friends, birthday and expectations were met and exceeded. It was wise of them to give us our own private room, because the noise level was all due to our group! The staff was gracious and accommodating, and the food was superb. I can’t say enough great things about this spot!

My lunch experience as 5 star because of the outstanding wait staff, food presentation, and general upbeat, Palm Springs vibe. My chile relleno was absolutely delicious and creatively presented with the relleno in the middle of rings creamy refried beans and freshly made salsa. The most creative presentation of this dish I've ever seen anywhere in the U.S. or Mexico-- and I've done a lot of travel. The drinks selection is also very creative of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic concoctions. Lastly it was so east to have a conversation because the soundtrack was just enough to create a lively atmosphere. 849 is a true Palm Springs gem, a place to be guaranteed a wonderful and memorable time!

I booked this restaurant to celebrate my friend’s birthday. I called ahead to make sure there was ADA access for my friend who uses a walker. So, we proceed to enter Eight4Nine through the back via a ramp—all good so far. Almost simultaneously, we run into this guy/probably the manager and he offers to seat my group of 4 on the patio, possibly because of my friend’s disability. Who wants to sit on a hot, empty patio in PS during the summer? After we enter the restaurant through the rear, we’re greeted by a kind woman who seats us and stores our friend’s walker. I also give her my name and reservation time. Later on, after returning home from Eight4Nine, I received an email from OpenTable stating the restaurant said I was a no-show for my dinner reservation. I had to craft an explanation countering that, which I found extremely annoying and unnecessary since I show up to all my reservations. The restaurant needs to get its house in order, so to speak! Honestly, I found the entire meal overpriced, overhyped, and unmemorable. My friends and I struggled to find items on the menu to order, which says something about a restaurant of this supposed caliber. The octopus starter was tough and overcooked, the egg could have been runnier too. On the smoked trout Niçoise salad, the little potatoes were hard as rocks and the green beans were practically raw. There were also long, painful gaps between the courses—we ordered appetizers to share, then individual starters, and our mains. Highlights, which were few and far between, included the crab and corn chowder, the lobster mac and cheese, and our kind server and his support staff. No one acknowledged my friend’s birthday until we said something at the end. They made it right, however, and gave my friend a nice recognition. Given the various hiccups and uneven food, it’ll be awhile before I consider returning here. The sad part is that I really wanted to like Eight4Nine, but it felt like it has become a victim of its success.

Eight4Nine staff truly made my birthday feel so special❤️ The service was quick and we were offered amazing suggestions on what to order. The aesthetic of the place is also phenomenal. They have the cutest art on the wall and I just loved the ambiance. The food tasted great. I ordered the Chile Relleno with carne asada and it was so tasty!

Great food and beautiful space. The service was really not great. We had to get up 3 times to find the server. Drinks should not take 20 minutes, we should not have to go and search for help. And it was not busy at the restaurant either.

Food and service were both outstanding. My companion had the house salad with salmon which was done to perfection. I enjoyed the Poblano pepper which quite possibly is among the best I have had anywhere. The fry was perfect and tasty while the taste of the pepper came through beautifully. The bed of refried beans and sauce was exceptional. There are so many interesting things on the menu, we'll definitely head back to try others! The server was very professional and spot on with the right mix of attentiveness and "privacy"!
