Altin Bergoli. Armenian. as he later turned out to be the co-owner, had reserved a lovely table in a corner beside a street window for us and showed us to it immediately we entered. A server poured water for us and Altin asked us what we would like to drink. The wine list is really very world-wide. I selected an Argentinian Salentein Portillo Pinot Noir. It was just right, not too sweet. Altin brought the wine himself and poured a taste for me. After approving it, he charged our glasses and then went on to describe the items on the menu. His verbal descriptions were most welcome and exceedingly helpful. He suggested the Mixed Meze Plate, which was a selection of most of the starters on the menu. A great idea and it worked for us. Before describing our mains, the Mixed Meze Plate arrived and we dived in. There were pieces of pita bread, a portion of hummus, of tzatziki, of baba ghanoush (smoked eggplant with tahini), of roasted red peppers, of Seymen (tomato paste, walnut, garlic, olive oil, red pepper and lemon juice), of beet puree with yogurt, garlic and lemon juice, two grape leaves stuffed with rice and herbs, and four little pieces of goat cheese one, on each corner of the plate, My wife settled on the lamb ribs, marinated with spices and grilled to a fall-off-the-bone tenderness. The accompaniments were two bowls of dipping sauces, one red and spicy, the other like tzatziki, a pita bread, rice and an oil dressed salad. Super! Altin told me the very best lamb dish was the tenderloin, three lamb tenderloins, each wrapped with a tasty piece of skin and grilled to the diner's choice (I had rare) and they were perfect, bursting in the mouth with juice and, so tender, almost dissolving without chewing. The skin enhanced the flavour of the very tender tenderloins. Same accompaniments as my wife's plate. Cost: Bottle wine - $40; Mixed Meze Plate - $9.95; lamb ribs - $16.50; Beyti kebab - $19. Total - $85.45 +tax $12.82 + $98.27. We left a gratuity of $20.

My wife and I tried Efendy for the first time last week and we very much enjoyed our visit. The host was great, the food was excellent - tremendous quality at a very reasonable price. We will definitely tell our friends and will definitely be back - KEEP IT UP!
