Edward’s 1290 (formerly Edward Levesque’s Kitchen) opened in June 2002 in little ‘Leslieville’. Edward’s serves up the best of American, Canadian and French classics… remixed with farm fresh ingredients, herbs, flavored oils, spices and a little less salt, fat and sugar for the modern palette. The ‘lemons-make –lemonade’ menu changes on an almost monthly basis always making best use of the local, seasonal vegetables, fruits and herbs from the non-certified organic garden and greenhouse one hour outside the city.

We purchase all our grain-fed beef from Enright Cattle Company, a small, family-owned farm outside Tweed. Each cut delivered weekly, numbered and never frozen.

All chicken, duck and turkey used are free run and purchased from John and Wendy.

All produce used is as local as can be and organic where affordable.

I would have never thought of trying this restaurant if it wasn't for Summerlicious. We enjoyed the food so much that it will definitely be on our list of restaurants to go to. Support local and support small business! The owner who is also the chef is talented! It's worth a visit!

We went for the Summerlicious menu and enjoyed the appetizers and dessert. However, the steak was very chewy and tough, and no steak knife was provided upon serving. Also, no discount was provided despite explaining we weren't happy with the steak. The price seemed a bit steep for two people ($130), especially since only one of us had a drink.

The food was really well prepared, but the flavours were on the bland side. The servers were nice but they didn't stop by the table at all except to pick up plates and drop them off. No engagement.

Our waiters were friendly and helpful. I went with a friend to celebrate our birthdays together and was very much looking forward to the experience. My friend had had brunch at Edwards and had quite enjoyed herself. Unfortunately that was not our experience on this occasion. ALthough the meals were beautifully presented the food itself was bland and tasteless with very small portions. We both left feeling hungry. I will not return for another try.

Steak was medium to well done when medium-rare was asked. Portions were good. Service was good but nothing exceptional. Food lacked a little bit of taste. Lamb kebab was cooked nicely and beautifully pink throughout. Overall experience was mediocre. No wow factor.

The Charcuterie to start was the best part of the meal - the rest was mediocre, but not priced like it. I'd stay away from the risotto (it was mostly peas...) and the beouf bourgignon. The frites that came with the salmon cakes were solid. With the number of outstanding restaurants in the city, it's not worth it to return to Edward's.
