Service was abysmal. It took twenty minutes before the waiter came to take our orders, and then he took the drink orders and ran before we could order our food. Ten minutes later he brought the drinks and took our food order. By then it was after 7, and we told him we had theater that night. Ten minutes later some of our first courses arrived. After another ten minutes we spoke to the manager, pointing out that we need to leave soon, and we still hadn't gotten one of the first course dishes, and non of the main course. Five minutes later a server came toward us with the good, but turned back when he saw the table hadn't been cleared of the first course. The food - most but not all of it - came at 7:30, an hour after the last of our party had been seated. We had to wolf it down and run to get to our seats before curtain. And we never got one of the salads. And they made no accommodation, but charged full price for a ruined meal

Great food in an ideal location by Lincoln Center. Good for before or after a show. The pre-fix menu is a wonderful deal. Ask for this menu if you don’t receive it when seated. Three full courses for $47. The potato chip crusted cod is delectable. Crunchy topping with a savory sauce. Attentive wait staff. My only critique is that they need more space by the front of the house so you can give the coat check your wardrobe and wait to be seated without awkwardly standing amongst so many other patrons.

Food was fine and service was ok, but the day we were there the restaurant had a water main break. They were vacuuming up all of the water, which was very loud. While I understand that the water main break wasn’t their fault, I thought the management could’ve handled the situation better. They could’ve explained the situation better and perhaps given a small discount or a free dessert.

The waitress Courtney was excellent. As soon as we sat down she asked if we were going to the theatre and when we said yes she said she would have us out on time. Even though she was busy she came over often to see if everything was all right.

However, the dessert was awful. Rest of the food was good.

An old school fish house with high volume, high throughput dining experience. The “loaded” lobster chowder had three small bits of what might hav e been lobster and had been boiled so furiously that it was served with a thick “skin” on top. The scallops were served like warm.

We've dined at the Chowder House several times, prior to attending concerts at Lincoln Center. The menu is somewhat limited and arranged in a novel way but the food is always very good. Service is efficient and non-obtrusive .

Reservations are a must for dinner!

I ordered codfish which I have had with you many times and always being happy. I am not a fish connoisseur but I did not get codfish and the waiter poo=poo'd my complaint. I ate it but will never order it again. It was not flaky at all and the texture was different . I don't eat fish usually, so I always order codfish when fish is my choice. That's why i am convinced that what-they served me was another fish , not codfish. OFC I never had the opportunity to show it someone else. Up to now, I come to you frequently, as well as to The Kitchen. See my open table reservations for proof. I am a philharmonic patron.

Perfect location to eat before a performance at Lincoln Center. Large selection of very good food, particularly fish, and excellent bread basket. Prix fixe dinner is a great value if you want 3 courses not including coffee. Our waiter was quite nice but really had to hustle since he seemed to have too many tables to take care of.
Our 1 criticism-- although we were early arrivals for dinner (5:30pm) and the restaurant was almost empty, we were seated opposite the kitchen entrance which was covered with a curtain.

Not as busy as other restaurants in area, pre-theater. Cold night so chowder sounded like a good idea. Chowder was watery. Main course was OK. Dessert of cookies and ice cream was pretty tasteless. Service was very mediocre. All in all, it was nothing special but cost $100.

The waiter was rude. I came a little later than my husband and my kids. The food was already served. I wanted to have a drink and was looking for my waiter. No one came to our table even though the restaurant was quite empty. After 10 minutes a table was seated next to us and the waiter came to give them their menus. I tried to raise my hand to let him know to come over after he is done with the other table. He didn’t acknowledge me but when he came over he was very rude. He said very loudly that he knows I am here but I need to wait as he is serving the other table. He told me it was disrecpectful. I was shocked at his assertion and also shocked at his outright bold rudeness. I will not go back again. Service was very bad and the waiter Was extremely rude. His name is Brian

The service was forgetful and the dining room and lighting dated. The Cod dish was well prepared and quite good. We chose the restaurant before Lincoln Center at 8 and all the other restaurants around were busy. Diners close by complained of the service.

My family and I arrived at 4:50 for dinner prior to a show at 7:00 pm. We were told that we could not be seated until 5:00. So we stood at the check-in stand with another couple. When we were seated, the waitress came to our table right away but was unemotional and had an edge to her. We were there with our adult children and wanted to have a nice evening. When the bread came to our table we asked if they had any gluten-free options and were told, no. We started with our drink orders which all were brought promptly and tasted very good. My only complaint was that my glass came partially filled which when you're having a martini is like missing several sips already and at $15 a glass is just annoying. For appetizers, we ordered calamari and clam chowder. The calamari was crispy and very tasty. The chowder was the worst we've ver had despite the restaurant's name! Thin soup base, practically NOTHING in the soup and tasteless. For our entrees we ordered the composed scallops and main scallops (prepared without sides) as well as crusted peppered tuna frites and a lobster roll. The composed scallops my daughter had were not cooked as requested and had a funky taste (which several of us confirmed by tasting). The sides were a soup of asparagus and cannellini beans and also were tasteless. My son's tuna was cooked as requested but they must have forgotten the pepper crust because it was non-existent and the tuna was very stringy and not at all tender. The lobster roll was ok but the portion size was more appropriate for an appetizer rather than a $30 dinner entree. The best part of two of the entrees were the seasoned french fries which were tasty and hot. Throughout the meal our waitress did connect at our table but just seemed annoyed and unhappy to be working. Definitely not worth the tab!

Ed’s was certainly a pleasant surprise for us... It is unassuming from street level; we walked by it a number of times without being drawn in for a meal.

However, life being what it is, I was seriously remiss at making a dinner reservation before last night’s performance at Lincoln Center (mere steps away) and only Ed’s had availability, so we took it.

Staff was absolutely wonderful... friendly, competent, committed to great customer service. Wine list was well mixed and not overblown in price... We had scallops ravioli, clam chowder, fluke and salmon. All tasty and nicely presented.

The seating was well spaced but not voluminous, so the room had a cozy to it; while the noise level was boisterous, it was not deafening.

Will have to let you know about desserts during our next trip back....

No time for dessert,

Have eaten here many times but will never go back. Stay was told we have a 7 pm curtain at Lincoln Center. We sat down at 5:30 and ordered a bottle of wine. It took them 20 minutes to finally come back to the table and tell us they no longer had that wine. We ordered another bottle, and this time it took 10 minutes to tell us the same thing. We then ordered a third bottle which finally arrived. We were not served our main courses until 10 minutes before we had to leave. The restaurant was not full. The service was so bad that you can no longer count on being out in time for a performance. The food is ok- not terrible, not great, but pricey due to location. All in all, not worth it for a later dinner, and dangerous as pre-theater.

We've eaten at Ed's Chowder House many times when we attend a performance at Lincoln Center. Apart from the convenience of its location, we really appreciate the staff, especially our go-to server, Sarwahr. Always helpful, remembers us and our food preferences, and sees to it that our order is handled promptly. We also really like the food choices. The scallop raviolis and the crabcakes are favorite appetizers, and the salmon (with newly-added eggplant caponata) and cod are always well prepared. The atmosphere is great, too. Crowded, but not noisy, reflecting that diners are having a good time and enjoying their meals.

Food was good. Wait service very competent. It was crowded and noisy at 530 (pre-concert) but there were plenty of open tables. That is why I truly did not appreciate the attempt to seat us in the very noisy and crowded bar area on raised bar type seats, and where there were drafts from a doorway. I declined that. It never should have happened. Others had the same thing happen (they ended up seated next to us in the main area). The bar crowd was much younger than we and it was inappropriate to try to seat two seniors in that area.

Do not make a reservation for 7pm and expect it to be honored. Place was packed and the bar area, where one usually has a drink while waiting to be served, was full of people being served dinner. Waited a half hour for a table. Clearly they don’t manage their seating. Hostess was not pleasant although another more senior person tried to explain away the problem. The good news is that the food was delicious.
This is the second time we went through this and since there is no shortage of restaurants in the area I doubt we will be back any time soon——and we live across the street!

Price fixed menus are a little less expensive but still ran above average. The appetizers were delicious, I had the NE clam chowder and Penne with Manila clams for the main course. There were 4 choices with dinner, all were presented and tasted well.
