edison: food+drink lab Ratings and Reviews
We caught an early Friday night dinner here and were not disappointed that we had chosen a restaurant a bit off the beaten path. The wood-roasted oysters were sensational; my husband and I split them (the dish came with six) as an appetizer. He moved on to a fish entree (Yellowtail) and I had another starter plate that was surprisingly large and filling (Burrata). In both instances, the flavors were inventive but well-balanced.
The location is not ideal, but it was definitely walkable from our downtown hotel. A nice place with some decent values on the wine list.
I stopped in here on a whim. I had previewed the menu a time or two, but since the wife didn’t fall in love with the scribes offerings we never stopped in. Today while shopping solo, I checked nearby restaurants and saw Edison was nearby. The space is small, yet comfortable. I didn’t find the tables too close; and booths lined the walls in an L shape. The bar was lovely. and fit the vibe of the restaurant perfectly. I wasn’t drinking, but they have an extensive spirit collection with a menu dedicated to cocktails.
The menu was simply on printed paper; allowing for easy change ups in the “made from scratch” kitchen. Smaller sampling’s of the dinner menu were available at lunch. I chose the burger with avocado; sans chorizo. The fries were fresh cut and served with a house made heirloom tomato ketchup. The burger was cooked perfectly and had the most beautiful and delicate essence of lemon in the sauce (perhaps an aioli?). The portion was quite healthy- in fact I brought half home.
The customer service was A+; staff took time to answer my questions, provide wanted info on the processes in the kitchen, and was attentive and kind.
I will be returning.
Nom! Nom! Nom! Can't believe we hadn't been there before. Great service! Excellent food! And, it was the perfect level where I could hear everyone at my table talking without having to raise our voices! The wine was delicious! The cheese board was nummy and nutricious! And the entrée was more than enough for two of us to split and get an excellent blend of meats and veggies that were perfectly seasoned and cooked.
Every time we come to Tampa we come to Edison. The potato encrusted oysters are the best fried oysters I have ever had, I usually do not order Duck but did on a whim tonight and could not have been happier with my choice to do so, it was amazing, one of the best duck preparations I have had.
Our server was great, as was the pork belly appetizer, but that was it. The drinks were really weak and overpriced. I ordered the scallops, they were gritty, like they still had dirt on them.
I did not enjoy that with every bite. Thankfully they were served "surf and turf" style with some pulled pork on the top, the pulled pork was good and the scallops were cooked well, but the grit of the dirt was really off-putting. My husband ordered the rib-eye steak, and it was really chewy... For the $$$ that this place costs, we were very, very disappointed in the food. We will NOT be going back.
We visited Edison after seeing a show at the Straz, the food was incredible, you could taste the effort put into every dish. Very exciting menu with unique flavors. We had drinks, apps, entrees and desserts. I have to say it’s hard to impress my husband who was a chef for 7 years professionally, but Edison was absolutely wonderful from the service to the food. Thank you for a exceptional dining expierence!! We will definitely be back!
Inspired food and cocktails, excellent service. edison food + drink lab exceeded my expectations, I'm happy to say it gave me a positive glimpse into the Tampa food scene which I've never experienced. Already recommended to friends when they're in the area. One minor hiccup was the papadum accompanying the delicious steak tartare, it was too oily but could easily be fixed.
Restaurant was super loud. Could not hear tablemates talk unless you were right next to them. That coupled with a server with a foreign accent and we had no idea what was being said.
Food is extremely expensive and just plain weird. I could understand if it was unique or eclectic and it tasted good, but not many of our party of eight cared for their meals. Flavors just didn’t seem to go together or in some cases totally undeveloped. Why not just make good food without putting all this crap all over it to try to make yourselves look different from other restaurants. for instance, chicken and waffles had a very awful flavor, scallops had some odd topping, the pork had weird accompaniments.
They are trying too hard and in my opinion it isn’t working. Would not return. I could have afforded a nice steakhouse for what we paid. I was shocked when I got the massive bill. Cocktails are extremely expensive and very small! Would not recommend! Staff were nice though.
We returned to our favorite Tampa Bay restaurant for my wife's birthday dinner. As the restaurant can get a bit loud when it is full (and it usually is), we chose bar seating. Service from Natalie was spot-on; her recommendations were quite good. The cuisine is just so wonderful and the drinks and wine selections were great, as usual. Edison never disappoints.
As a New Yorker I am always looking for something great in the Tampa Bay area. This totally exceeded my expectations. The food was AMAZING, they were very accommodating to my special diet, and the service was really great. If you're a foodie, YOU'VE JUST GOTTA TRY THIS PLACE!
This was our 5th time going to Edison's as always it was a very enjoyable evening. The food tasted excellent and the presentation was gorgeous. They have thier regular cocktails and creative occassionals. We had no compliants on service. The wait staff was timely. We would recommend it and we will certainlt go back again.
Such a great find! Was just looking for something pre-concert and picked this by location but WOW! Our waitress was very well versed on the cocktails and food and gave us great recommendations.
We tried several small plates and they were all delicious. The roasted oysters were the best I’ve ever had and the pork belly is to die for. We also had grilled octopus, steak tartare and split the hot and sour soup. Plenty to share!
The cocktails were unique and delicious also. I wish I could remember the name of bourbon one my hubs had because it was amazing.
We will be back
The food was outstanding, flavorful and happiness in your mouth! I would never order duck myself, until this dining experience. My boyfriend ordered it and loved it. I wouldn’t order duck just anywhere, but at Edison I highly trust the chef, sous’ And others’ in the kitchen. They really create masterful dishes. There was a large group there that was a bit loud and in the way at the bar, but once they were seated you didn’t even know they were there.
