edison: food+drink lab Ratings and Reviews
Our first time there. So we sampled a lot of small plates -- some things, like poutine and grilled octopus, were okay but nothing I would order again. Others, like the pork belly and yellowfin tuna were delicious enough to make me want to return soon (but maybe without our 9 y.o. in tow -- good date night spot).
We really like EFL. The food is generally out of this World. This time, the food was ok. It was not superlative. It lacked the subtlety of combined flavors that normally separates this restaurant from other Tampa upscale establishments. We’ll be back but I’ll be hesitant to recommend EFL until I know that our recent visit was an aberration.
The service at Edison is spectacular. Servers and food runners do an excellent job of managing your food order so that plates are being brought out throughout your duration of your dining experience and that is the part I like best. I also enjoy seeing a totally different menu each time I go. It allows you to try the newest/trending foods that you see and hear about on TV with the same great staff and ambiance with that downtown/South Tampa feel.
The food and beverages were delightful. The service was friendly and attentive. Though a bit on the pricey side (but it’s downtown and to be expected) our night out was wonderful. Even the valet gentlemen were friendly and prompt. I’d definitely go here again
This was our third time dining at Edison’s. We chose to eat Valentines Lunch there. We love the decor, ambience and food, even though I am very much #TeamNikolaTesla and not a big fan of Thomas Edison. 😁🤓⚡️ This time though, our experience was a little off. Our waiter was very personable and took time to explain a couple of menu creations. But when the food was delivered, he never came back to check to see if everything was in order. My Fiancée got the Steak Friets (Steak and Fries), Medium Well and I ordered the Chicken and Waffels. Unfortunately Her steak was burnt on the outside. It had that “charcoal-burnt” taste, not a “kiss of the flame” char-taste. Also, the rest of the dish was just “Meh”. We could possibly have had a do-over (which we rarely do), but our waiter did not check back to us in time. Also, when our waiter came to remove the plates from the table, my Financee’s plate was still full of food with only two bites taken out of the steak and still nothing was said. We thought that we could make the best of the meal by ordering coffee and our favorite dessert at Edison’s, The Pound Cake. The coffee came out way too early this time and the Pound Cake was just “Meh”. We definitely will try Edison’s again, maybe in a few months, but this time hope to enjoy everything as we’ve had in the past. In conclusion:
1. After delivering food to the table, check back with your guests within a minute or so to see if temperatures are correct, and if not, there is still time to fix things. Edison’s was not busy at this time, this would have saved the day for us.
2. Ask your guests how they would like things like coffee and desert brought out. If they can’t be done together in a reasonable time, then assure them that they will have a fresh, hot cup when the dessert arrives.
I know the Staff knows all this and everyone has off days, but it would have been nice to enjoy what we love about this place, especially on a quiet Valentines Day. Thank you! 😁
We celebrated our 26th anniversary and after we were seated, the server brought us two glasses of champagne and wished us a happy anniversary. We ordered the buffalo cauliflower, which was perfect. Not too spicy, very flavorful. My husband said the grilled octopus was the best he ever had. The fried green tomato salad with arugula and goat cheese was superb. Then we shared the Organic chicken and waffles, the waffle was a bit overdone for my taste but overall was very good. We finished up with a chocolate, peanut butter bar with chicory coffee ice cream that was awesome. Overall it was very good. They offer a very interesting drink menu as well. A little high priced, but I felt it was worth it and I plan to return.
My husband and I consider ourselves foodies and have been to Edison several times to enjoy amazing food and delicious cocktails. This visit was truly outstanding. Every course we had was spectacular. Our server, Roy, was knowledgeable and personable. Edison is truly one of the best (if not the best) restaurants in the Tampa Bay area.
The service was exceptional! Food was good but the price point was high as was the price point for drinks and appetizers given what you get. Also, it’s really loud in the restaurant. I do however recommend you trying Edison’s and forming your own opinion seeing as I’ve only been there once.
