Made a reservation for my parents first visit to Scottsdale and we showed up to the restaurant and it was closed. A sign was on the door apologizing for the inconvenience. I think is courtesy phone call would have been nice. I made the reservation almost 2 weeks in advance. They should update their availability on OpenTable or at least call people to let them know.
Made a reservation, and drove to Eddie House only to find they were closed.
We made a 6:30 PM reservation for dinner. We were able to get seated right away. Waiter, Jack very good, bartender excellent. Wife ordered chicken, absolutely great. I had a taste(or two) and it was great.
I started with the clam chowder, very, very good. A bit pricey but very good.
I had East meets West fish dinner and was also a wonderful pairing. We both had great meals .
We decided to have coffee and a dessert. Coffee fresh and very good. Bread pudding was warm to mildly hot and wonderful. Good thing we ordered the coffee because of a problem in the kitchen we wait about a 1/2 hour for dessert to be served.
Service after dinner seemed to slow down. Not sure why as their were several available tables, but a very full bar area. We are never in a hurry but if you had additional plans for the evening you might want to adjust your dinner reservation time.
Staff was wonderful. They seemed to be busy but wonderful to talk with, order, etc. We will return on our next visit to Old Town.
Dined with Eddie once again for my wife's birthday. As always everything was delicious. Love chef Eddy!
Enjoyed the food very much! Even though they were short on wait staff, the Manager did a great job of keeping everyone happy. She worked hard and we appreciated the efforts she made during a tough evening.
Slow service, below average food, they must of had a real bad night.
A very family run and family friendly restaurant.
Been going to Eddies for about 7 years and always enjoyed the food and service. Our expereince this time could not have been worse. We received the worst service we have ever experienced anywhere. The server was completely incompentent, and the manager was rude, condescending and insulting . When we informed the manager that the salmon was undercooked, we were bluntly told, this is the way we serve it. The bill was not broken down as we had asked when we first sat down. We were brought food we didn't order and charged on the bill for it. By this time we were so fed up with the horrible service all around, we paid the bill and left, never to return or recommend. Obviously this is common, as the restaurant was virtually empty on a Saturday nite, and we heard other tables complaining too.
Very thankful that Eddie's House offers a Passover menu so that we could celebrate while on vacation. However, they didn't plan very well from a staffing perspective - - the waitstaff needed to have about 3 more people. We were seated at 6:30 and only rec'd water in the 1st 45min we were there. We then were served the second course before the first... Very disorganized.
Wow - what a disappointment. We usually like Eddie's but we definitely hit them on an off night. The restaurant was brutally hot, not crowded (probably because there was no AC) and the kitchen was pathetically slow! We waited way too long for our food and once it got to us it was cold. Our poor waiter tried his best but the kitchen just wouldn't cooperate. I don't think we'll g back which is disappointing because we can walk to it!
Of restaurants we have visited over the years that specialize in seafoods, this was one of the very best! Ellen and I shared the surprisingly large and beautiful Fatoush salad for starters, featuring crisp greens, cucumbers, toasted pita, and lemon mint sumac.
After reviewing an impressive range of dishes other than seafood, we settled on a grilled halibut special over a bed of asparagus rice risotto with roasted brussel sprouts on the side. Every bite was perfect! We compared it to a meal we had several years ago in Homer, Alaska, the proclaimed halibut fishing capital of the world. That meal at ranked as one of our best ever, and our halibut special at Eddie's House ranked right up there with it!
We topped off the meal with a simply delectable 5-spice apple cobbler with vanilla bean ice cream. That dessert made the entire meal end with a "Wow!"
Our superb server was Angel, who upon hearing our assessment of the meal cheered and rushed to the kitchen to tell the chef and sous chefs. Shortly after, gifted sous chefs Tim and Christina came to greet us and hear our assessment of their handiwork firsthand.
Eddie's house has an authentic, casual ambience. Angel, Tim, Christina, and all the staff made us feel at home. We can hardly wait to go back!
The food at Eddie's House is GREAT! We had the lamb as well as the shrimp appetizer. OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD! I told the chef that if they changed the recipe on those dishes I'd take them to court. Great place, great atmosphere, wonderful people, and welcoming. There's a lot of competition among good restaurants in Scottsdale. These folks have not lost their roots.
The shrimp dish was too spicey to enjoy The fish was overcooked The p
rices were high for the choices The appetizer was the best
Our table of 6 sat in their 1/2-full restaurant for 15 mins with no server greeting. Service was incredibly slow and this is the third time visiting and experiencing this issue. Food is decent here - but the lacking service and, as a result, lacking attention to detail (waiter forgot requested refills, forgot to take entire orders, etc.), will cause us to not return. Automatic 20% gratuity for a table of 6 (8 or 10 I can understand...) was not appreciated for such horrible service received. Not a good dining experience here.
The food and service was very poor. Ordered salmon and had to send back for being extremely undercooked. The service was spotty and the restaurant had a tired look to it. The Yelp reviews were way off on this restaurant.
This is undoubtedly the very best restaurant in metropolitan Phoenix. Chef Eddie's dedication to his craft and his creativity are AMAZING!
The service and the food is always amazing at Eddie's House. Eddie Matney has been a staple in the restaurant world of Phoenix for 20+ years. You will never have a bad meal at his place, plus he is pretty nice guy too.
Very enjoyable and friendly environment
Staff was warm and Personable
I read the reviews and they were spot on. Excellent food and service.
This place was recommended by a friend of mine from Pittsburgh. It certainly lived up to the recommendation. Will go back next time we are in Scottsdale.
Food was out of this world! Hostess very friendly as well as the waiter but hostess turned into the barmaid and the cocktail service was slow at best but the drink was awesome. Waiter apparently doesn't know that trout and salmon are two different fish! Lol! We LOVED our meals! Thank you Eddie!!!!!
We have dined at Eddie's many times over the years. This time when we arrived we were taken to our table promptly and then waited about 25 minutes before our server took our drink order. We found the prices on the menu had increase substantially. In the past there was the option of half portions which we liked as we are not big eaters. It took quite some time for our salad and entrees to arrive. Overall we were disappointed and will probably not return unless it is just for happy hour when the prices are an appropriate value for the food and drinks.
Eddie's is a funky supper club with very good food but somewhat distracted service.
Must visit spot in Scottsdale! Eddie is a brilliant chef!
Ahi tuna tartar was good. Mushroom bisque was delicious. Meatloaf was great. Flank steak...over cooked, tough and not much flavor. Flourless chocolate cake hit the spot. Overall, good meal and it's the first time we've had s disappointing meal. Service was great
I cannot recommend nor return to this restaurant after the poor service we and other customers received. The hostess had no business attempting to be one. She was rude and incompetent at her job. She let us and another couple stand and wait at the hostess station for nearly 20 minutes after arriving for our reservation just to come and tell us that it would be a wait for a table. Yet she never told us how long it would be and disappeared again for 15 minutes. We were in disbelief how little the staff cared about waiting customers and it only got worse from there. The service left such a poor taste in our mouths that we could not enjoy our special dinner. I will never be back.
We had reservations at Eddie's House for Valentine's Day and I have to honestly say it was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had - and using the word "dining" is misleading since we never got food! We arrived for our 7:30 reservation at 7:20 to be met with a line out the door. The hostess was ignoring all the guests as they arrived, when we tried to give her our name, so abruptly told us she was seating guests that had reservations prior to 7:00 and it was not our turn. Understanding that Valentine's Day is such a busy day in the restaurant business, we patiently "waited our turn". During this time we noticed that there were many open tables both inside and outside. We were finally seated a little after 8. Once at our table we waited 15 minutes and no one approached the table (glad we had bought a drink in the bar). Finally we flagged down a waiter to try to give our order. He seemed to have zero idea whether we were in his section, he was waiting on all the table around us! We ordered soup and our entrees, guessing that we might not see him again. We waited another 30 minutes and no food arrived at the table and waiter never came back. After being there for over 90 minutes, we finally walked out with no dinner! We had eaten at this restaurant in the past and although the service was not great (even though the restaurant was mostly empty), the food was good. We live very close to Old Town Scottsdale and love to frequent the local restaurants. We are loyal customers but once we have a bad experience, they will no longer get our business - there are too many other great choices that appreciate the business and provide outstanding service and food. If you are considering this restaurant, I recommend that you look right past it and choose something else!
A disappointing experience. We made 7:15PM reservations for Valentine's day. We were there a little early and there was a line to get inside the restaurant. We were told they were a little behind and that we should wait in the bar. It was more than an hour before we were seated. The hostess, bartender and waiter were phenomenal! The entire problem was the kitchen. It is an open kitchen, so, you are able to see the activity. It was a madhouse. Several couples gave up and walked out as the wait was so incredibly long after they ordered. We were enjoying each other's company, so, the wait was not going to kill our evening. Many others, however, didn't have the patience that was needed to tough out the experience. When the food arrived it was incredible. I would give them a 10 for food quality and creativity and a - 10 for kitchen management. They need some serious help if they plan to survive...
The service is really bad. We were seated at 6:50PM, no one spoke to us until we flagged someone down at 7:15pm. We waited for everything, drinks, apps, etc. At 9:25pm, we still had NOT receive our food. Finally by 10:10 we left after eating. The food taste was good, but the service is terrible. We were given no compensation for waiting that long, except an apology. DO NOT GO HERE EVER!!! I have lived in AZ for over 30 years, never have I encountered service this tragic.
Valentine Day. Honestly. Busiest day of the year and so under staffed. Our waiter was great but he was way over worked. The poor service was not a reflection of him but the fact he had Way way way too many tables.
Great food but they were way understaffed.
We had a great time and truly enjoyed the food. I do think the two-tops are too close together though.
Eddie's House has been our favorite restaurant in AZ for years, but when we went last Saturday to celebrate our Anniversary, we were disappointed. We were seated promptly (the restaurant was practically empty, save for a couple groups in the corners), but then sat for 15 minutes before anyone came to our table...no water, no bread, there wasn't even a cocktail menu on the table. Finally our server arrived and immediately told us that he was very busy and that he was sorry but the service would be slow tonight. We looked around and the restaurant couldn't have been more than 1/4 full...on a Saturday night at 7:15pm. In downtown Scottsdale. Rough start. We ordered cocktails, and waited...and waited..... Now, one of the primary reasons we love(d) Eddie's is the sherry lobster bisque...it's delightful. We were already frustrated at the poor service, and had discussed leaving, but decided to wait so we could get the bisque...we'd driven 40 minutes to get there, after all, and it WAS our Anniversary. Finally, at 7:30....a full 30 minutes after our arrival, we were served cocktails. We immediately asked for two bowls of the bisque....and were told that the restaurant was sold out. At 7:30pm....on a Saturday....with a quarter-full restaurant....sold out. Ridiculous. (Especially since we heard Eddie himself at the table behind us offering the bisque to his 'personal guests') We opted to pay for our cocktails and leave. (Silver lining, our server genuinely felt bad [not going to name him/her] and offered to pay for our cocktails....credit where credit is due) Bummer, we really loved that place.
Took way to long to get our drinks and food also made the mistake of ordering desert sat down at 6:10 and had to track down our waiter to get the check. Finally left at 9 pm. We will not be back anytime soon that for sure. Food was good though.
Food was outstanding! Only reason for average rating on service was the wait for food was a little longer than usual.
But worth the wait. Eddie is working the whole restaurant, very hard!
We visited on a weeknight. Have read reviews concerning staffing. Was not busy on a Thursday week after the golf tournament and the small staff was adequate. That said the wine list was very good and the glass pours were generous. The food (lamb chops app, salmon and meat loaf) were all very good and up to Eddie's old standards. Great location and dining room.
We really enjoyed our dinner. Very flavorful food. They had a nice wine selection too.
I have eaten at this restaurant many times and this was the worst of all of those experiences. It was obvious that they were understaffed because the service was slow and an attentive. The food is always good and predictable but this time it was Not good at all. I would go back but not on a weekend night and if I noticed that they were understaffed I would not go back
You can always find unique dishes here that you can't get anywhere else. And they never disappoint. Always incredible.
Solid drinks, not watered down. Food was delicious, from the drinks, to the appetizer, to the dessert. Had the filet special, GF has the tuna/halibut combo. Will go again!
