Eddie V's - Pittsburgh Ratings and Reviews
I ordered the “butterfish” Black Cod and it was one of the best fish dishes I have had in Pittsburgh in a long time. Not only was the food great, but our server Thomas made the evening that much more pleasant. We went he day before Valentines Day so he brought my wife a rose and recommended two great desserts. I highly recommend that anybody reading this review asks for his section.
Living in Downtown Pittsburgh we finally got to dine at Eddie V's for Valentines Day. Exceptional service from Thomas James and delicious food made this special occasion a big hit. Every dish we ordered from the pot stickers appetizers to the scallops and sea bass entrees were outstanding. A long stem rose presented to the lady at dinner's end topped off a great evening. We will be back.
We ordered the following:
-Crab fried Rice - seemed directionless as a dish and like they threw crab meat on top of it. Wasn't a complete dish and lacked thought. Also seemed to be sitting in some sort of broth. Highly caloric for no reason.
-Truffle Mac - best part of my dining experience but not because it was amazingly cooked. Just the most tolerable thing I ordered. Rue was too soupy.
-TarTar - this was the worst thing I ate, hands down. The way the steak in particular was seasoned and prepared rendered it inedible and nausea inducing. Truffle was thrown on top but not expertly incorporated into the dish and the oil was overused. Lobster I only finished because the meat was such a good quality but it reminded me of a church picnic seafood salad. Too much mayo was used. And the crostini was so damn hard I could crack a tooth on it. Waiter was kind enough to take it off the menu
-Calamari - my co-worker ordered and I ate most of it. Only thing that I didn't regret getting. Presentation was too much though. A lot of fluff on the plate of saturated garnishes. Wish they would have let the calamari be. It was ruined by whatever sauce they put on the plate though. Made the batter soggy and fall off the calamari.
-Creme brulee - came out cold. didn't eat but my coworker was put off by it.
-Complimentary bread and butter - bread was trash, butter was amazing
For the price point of this restaurant, I expected a better fine dining experience. I won't go to another one, in any city. Pittsburgh ruined it all for me.
And the only reason I checked happy hour above is because at least their prices arent as high for a better value/experience.
Jocelyn, our waitress, made our experience wonderful! The food was great, they prepared our table for Valentine’s Day since we were celebrating early, gave me a rose and gave us complimentary champagne. The food was timed well and the bananas foster cake was ridiculous!
I can't wait to return to Eddie V's! It's a beautiful downtown restaurant that's worth visiting several times a year. The steaks are exceptional and the service was 5 Star! They make special occasions even more special. Great Jazz on the weekends. Valet parking after 6:00 pm, so be aware of that detail on cold winter evenings!
This place is fantastic! Took my family there before the theater and we're treated like royalty. The 6 top was in a private area but still open to the rest of the dining room. The server, Glen, made our dinner special. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND REQUESTING HIM!!!!! The food was fantastic from the apps to desert. Eddie V's will be our "go to" for a great evening out.
This was our second visit to this hot spot downtown. Beautiful dining room that sets the mood for a classy evening. Nice to hear the live jazz streaming in from the act in the lounge. Terrific array of cocktails, wines, appetizers, seafood and steaks. This time we enjoyed huge stuffed shrimp and a swordfish steak -- both excellent. Creative side dish of crab fried rice -- a bit oily and way too much scrambled egg for my liking -- but tasty.
There are many tasty desserts, but we drank dessert instead because we wanted the Boozy Vietnamese coffee -- a wonderful cocktail of dark rum, espresso, sweet milk. Wow. Potent and very tasty.
Efficient, classy service from white jacket waiters. Attractive crowd for good people-watching.
The food is exceptionally prepared and of the highest quality. Our server, Glen Marra, was extremely talented and professional with a wonderful knowledge of the menu, liquor and desert. Eating in the dining area ensures they music volume is perfect. You can sit closer to the bar area that has more of a link to the sound. The price fits the entire experience. Enjoy.
We ate at Eddie V's for our anniversary. The noise level was so high that my husband and I had difficulty hearing each other sitting at a booth. We had the lobster bisque which was good but I've had better at other restaurants. The au gratin potatoes were excellent, and better than anywhere else. Our steaks were good, but I prefer to have my steak seared on the outside even though I like it medium rare. I think Capital Grill, Eddie Merlot's, and Ruth Chris are much better. However, they tried to make our anniversary special with rose petals on the table and an anniversary card. They even gave us a glass of champagne.
I love Eddie V's, because they have the best steak and sides!! I went last Sunday for restaurant week. I was the last reservation of the night after a very long week. I order the filet butterflied, oscar style. The Bernaise and crab meat was like warm. The filet was rough in some areas, and perfect in others. I was just not happy with the steak, but everything else was pretty good. So the overall experience was great.
Great food and service. Nicer than we expected, so we were a bit under dressed (having just come from a show at PPG Paints Arena), but we were still treated well and no one seemed offended by our attire.
The food was out of this world - every bit of it. Seasoned well and delicious. The service was spectacular. If you're going out to celebrate and are willing to spend a bit more for better food, this is a good choice. The desserts were amazing, too!
The one guest coming in had trouble finding the restaurant parking and someone actually went out to park his car for him. Stellar customer service.
I will literally come back to this restaurant just for Alex the cute blonde braided server & Brittany the bartender. They were soooo sweet & efficient & I just love them. They made our night an experience! 20/10 service. Food was excellent. Great old fashioned. I'll be back!
Been here a few times. In early January I made reservations to celebrate a friends birthday last night, Jan 20th, unknowingly during restaurant week. Overall a pathetic experience. We were seated a half an hour past our reservation time, and at NO time did anyone ever attempt to offer an, “I’m sorry for your wait.” The server was as polished as a server at Eat-n-Park, which is not meant to be an insult to their fine hard working staff. However when expecting to spend a few hundred on a special dinner, I expect stellar service. One in my party ordered a filet rare, which was just as brown and medium as the filet I ordered. The tipping my point was three of us ordering a glass of Cabernet....when I reviewed my bill, those three glasses cost as much as two of our dinners. Clearly the undercurrent of the evening was to give (presumed) one-time customers of restaurant week a subpar experience or to recap revenue by gouging customers on their bar bill, and in so doing preventing repeat business from previous customers. Never again! You want a steak, go to Outback for half the price. You want seafood, go to Mitchell’s for half the price. As far as service, you’ll be treated better going to a fast food drive thru.
The server was excellent given the chaos restaurant week brings. We did wait 20 minutes for a 6 pm reservation but server made up for that when seated. The prefix was a bit limited...technically 2 salmon offerings ...considering this is a seafood restaurant. My guests were pleased though and want to return
The food was excellent - everyone's seafood and steak cooked perfectly. The restaurant is beautiful. However, our waiter was less than enjoyable. We were met with shortness, eye rolls, and quite frankly sass when we asked for happy hour specials, a split check, change for a $20, etc. We would come back, but not thanks to the service.
I decided to try this restaurant for Restaurant Week and was delighted with my choice. The ambiance was amazing. The menu was varied and all my choices were delicious. The staff was pleasant and very accommodating. Our water (Ron) was very knowledgeable and positive.
I will certainly recommend this restaurant to my clients. A very enjoyable experience.
