Salad size has been cut in half without reducing the prices accordingly. Service is very slow and food bland. Ice cream selection included only vanilla (when we asked server for the day’s selections of flavors). We are done with this restaurant
A great experience every time I go. It's one of the most consistent restaurants we frequent.
Service and food always excellent!
The food here is always good. We were taken care of by Steve on this night and he was great! Thanks Steve! We always try to sit in the bar area just because we like a little more energy in the immediate surroundings. If you wanted a quieter table those are available too.
Wonderful meal. Steak was cooked perfectly. Dessert was extremely generous and delicious.
Celebration of the closing of a business deal
My wife and I enjoy trying new restaurants so we came here for the first time on NYE for our anniversary.
Understanding that the experience on NYE would be different from just about any other evening, here is my review from our visit:
SERVICE - Average. From the time we were seated, it took around 20+ minutes for our drink order to be taken. For an appetizer, we ordered the Beef Carpaccio, which was never brought out. The server was, however, helpful and friendly.
AMBIANCE - I thought the feel and decor was lacking character, more for a large group or business meeting, not a place I would recommend for a romantic dinner.
FOOD - Overall, I thought the food was good. We ordered the Waldorf Salad, New Orleans Mixed Grill and Trio of Filet Medallions with Lobster Mashed Potatoes.
VALUE - a little overpriced compared to other area options.
OVERALL - I would likely visit again, but would not be a top choice over other area steakhouses.
We were there on New Years. The restaurant was having a VERY bad night. They were overbooked and understaffed. The manager made some adjustments on the bill, but to be honest it didn’t make it worth the bad experience
The service was exceptionally and unacceptably slow, even taking into account it was New Year's Eve. We were seated on time for our reservation, but then waited nearly 25 minutes as our table before our server first appeared. This set the tone for the entire experience. Once we were able to place our order, we endured another long wait before it appeared. The starters and main course were acceptable, but the desserts (ice cream items) were very melted when delivered. Our server was very polite, but it was obvious she was charged with tending too many tables. All in all, even though we expected moderate delays given the holiday, the slow service was worse that we expected. It appeared the restaurant was not properly staffed or prepared for the crowd. While we have not totally written off this restaurant, it is not likely that we will patronize it again any time in the foreseeable future. The value received did not remotely correlate with the price paid.
Food was decent but the service was slow. Waitress was nice but seemed like they had her working to many tables so she couldn't keep up. At one point it took over 20 mins to get two drinks... Will have to go back and give it another shot
We were a party of four on New Year's Eve for seating at 6:30 pm. Granted this is a difficult evening for restaurants, but service was exceptionally slow. Food however, was excellent-mushroom side dish was a bit overpriced.
Having been to Eddie Merlot's on a non-holiday occasion a couple of years ago, it seemed that tables had been added to accommodate the holiday crowd thus making proximity to other tables quite close and therefore noisy from overheard conversations.
Would probably not go back on New Year's Eve, but the experience a couple of years ago for a special birthday was terrific.
We've been to Eddie Merlots many times. They did seem to be slammed on New Year's Eve. Lots of confusion over tables and what we ordered. Our server, Brandi, was terrific throughout and managed over the confusion. When my steak was out too early and was not cooked enough, the manager personally took care of it - and COMPED it! And comped dessert! They did a great job through the tumult.
Food and service were excellent!
What a great meal. We shared two appetizers, Tuna and Chilled crab which were both outstanding.
We then moved on to one of the specials which was a 16oz Bone in Filet paired with a 10oz lobster tail.
Both of our entree's were prepared as desired proving to be delicious.
We also took advantage of a special wine offering that evening which was a perfect pairing.
Most importantly, the service provided by Alex, our wait person and the Manager were above and beyond.
First time visit. Wasn’t overly impressed. I hope they can do better. Next time I hope food is better and service gets better. The restaurant was not busy that’s why I’m critical about service.
Our server, Isabel, was amazingly sweet. The food was good. We were in a side room that was a bit cold but the staff did try to remedy that right away. Menu was varied, so there is something fir everyone. Extensive wine list.
This place is very overrated. The food was good, but not exceptional. However, the ambiance, atmosphere, and service were all only average--at best. I don’t normally dine in the suburbs, so maybe standards are different than in downtown Chicago. However, the prices made me expect a better experience than we had. To begin with, they pretended to be over-booked (perhaps an attempt to manufacture demand?) so we had an early reservation. Yet, we were one of only five tables in the restaurant for hours. And even with only 5 tables, the service was very slow, and came with an additional side of attitude. And the room we were seated in was not only isolated, but also reminded us both of a post-funeral reception room. I don’t mind spending $150+ p/p when it is deserved. But for my money, I will stick with the other steak houses downtown in the future.
Overpriced for the lower quality food. The bar area does seem nice if you just want a drink.
Our meal was fabulous and the service was very good. So glad to have this restaurant close to home.
My husband and I almost always opt to have dinner in the cozy lounge near the fireplace. Window tables are drafty and especially chilly in the winter.
We each started with a cocktail. My Summer Ruby Spritz was festive and tasty. My husband started with a martini and a bowl of Crab and Corn Chowder, which had a creamy consistency and amazing depth of flavor. I had the complex and flavorful side of roasted cauliflower to start.
A couple of tables near us had ordered burgers, which looked especially good, so we did as well. They were extremely good and we will definitely order them again.
We always have good service here, starting with the friendly hostesses and including the servers snd busboys. Our server this time was competent, efficient and attentive - but ONLY to my husband. He called him by name (Mr. ———-), inquired about his drink and food, etc. He never once asked me the same questions, and he ignored two of my positive feedback comments about the food. I have my thoughts about this but will not share them. Perhaps a general reminder to all staff will take care of this for future customer experiences.
Of special note...
Valet Kevin is a delight! He is extremely helpful and kind and goes out of his way to create a good first impression for the restaurant.
Every year our office get Christmas party for staffs appreciation around Chicago area
We try to go famous restaurant however everyone said different options
This year all my staffs said the best experience and good food
Thank you guys for our memorable office Christmas party
We found this gem while browsing for a location near Marriott theater. We were seated in the lounge near fireplace. Very cozy and warm. Service spectacular. Server very attentive and knowledgeable. Dinner was perfectly prepared. We will definitely will be returning.
Efficient, knowledgeable and friendly waitstaff. Meal options were rich and decadent, made with fresh, high quality ingredients. Steaks (filets) were top notch; crab cake was flavorful, fresh with nice big bites of lump crab. Desserts, cinnamon roll and lemon sorbet (which was more like gelato) were outstanding also.
Lounge seating is much more comfortable and easier on the eyes than the formal dining area. Recommend for business and special occasions.
Holiday lunch...sat in the lounge area. Jes, barista, server extraordinarie. Warm, great personality, knowledgeable in all areas... knows the menu and makes suggestions and pairs drinks to accentuate the dining experience. It’s who represents whomever you work for that makes a business or breaks it... JESS is AWESOME and we keep going back not only for the ambiance, great chef seasonal lounge selections selections... but because of Jess. Highly recommend!
Very nice private room
A little bit overpriced
Went for brunch pre theater. Food, atmosphere, and service was outstanding!
Outstanding service. Steaks perfectly cooked. Nice chocolate cake to end the meal.
It was a birthday celebration. The waiter ignored us for the first 20 minutes. Then acted frustrated because he had a large table next to us. We finally had to go get the Mgr We told waiter our daughter couldn’t have dairy. He served her potatoes with butter! Dinner took so long one of the kids fell asleep. They gave us an adjustment on the bill but that didn’t help with the Celebration. Don’t think I would ever go back.
Isabel took good care of us even though the restaurant was packed with Christmas Parties. All the food was prepared properly and wonderful.
Service was off. Long waits between courses.
Wonderful meal in a terrific setting. The bar area is great. The Tuna was awesome.
Just stopped in for a quick meal and asked for a table in the lounge. Seated promptly and the waiter was there quickly for my drink order (an excellent Woodford Reserve Old Fashioned). Ordered the Wagyu burger (medium) and regular fries. The burger tasted great, but it was cooked closer to well done and so was not as juicy as it could have been. Fries were perfect: crispy outside, pillowy inside.
Dinner was excellent. Company was excellent I had the filet and tail
Saturday night December 1 630pm. Service was very slow. Waited 15 min for server to arrive. Wine service took another 10. Had to request bread from bus boy. . Entree ordered medium well came out near rare. Hardly saw server during the meal. Very noisy and crowded in the back room. Will try this place once more and will not return unless it’s a much better experience.
Antonio always takes great care of us!! The whole team is always very nice and welcoming!!
An excellent restaurant with a menu that has something for everyone. The service is courteous and efficient. The environment in quiet and welcoming. Food quality is on point and the wine list was a pleasant surprise. As an aside, we tried the Oysters Rockefeller as an appetizer which I had not eaten in years and they were amazing. Highly recommend the pork chop and elk chop as well!
We loved the atmosphere, seating, and food! We were very disappointed in the staff. They were unfriendly and uninterested.
Highly recommend the bone in ribeye! The appetizer are waitresses described perfectly! The sweet and spicy shrimp are amazing!!
Drinks, Food, and Service were excellent! Our waiter, Serafin was an angel!!!
