Eddie Merlot's Prime Aged Beef & Seafood - Indianapolis Ratings and Reviews
Overall, we were disappointed with our dining experience. We sat after each course with dirty dishes on our table for quite a while. Also, we had ordered a New York strip and received a fillet instead. I will say that we didn’t realize the difference until we received our check. We thought the meat looked a little strange to be a Strip steak, but thought that was just how this restaurant cut the meat. . All in all, we would give this experience a C- and do not plan on returning
We had, what we believe, the absolute best dining experience. Alicia is amazing and went out of her way to see that everything was taken care of. The food, the service, the experience was above and beyond all expectations. We will definitely be back and will most certainly request Alicia. She's the best!
Let me start out by saying the food was amazing but could be better if it was a little warmer.. the service however was terrible. Almost everything we asked for either took FOREVER, or we didn’t receive it at all unless we again had to ask for it . On top of that he would be in the middle of answering a question we asked or waiting for an answer from is on our order and up to three times he just walked away in the midst of conversation... I would definetely return to give merlots a second chance but would not recommend to anyone until I have a better experience.
It took over an hour and 45min to receive our entrees and the table next to us had arrived 30minutes after us and received their food before ours came to the table. I'm pretty sure they took advantage of my table because we were younger and thought we wouldn't complain. There was also no accommodation for the long wait or apology. Over-priced and overrated.
Took my wife there for Valentine’s Day. We were seated promptly at the time of our reservation. First impressions count and my first impression was that the server was grouchy. My idea of a professional server at an expensive restaurant is that they don’t just take orders and serve, they engage diners in pleasant conversation about the wine and food, adding tremendously to the enjoyment and value of the meal. Our server would have none of that, she wanted to take orders and get out of there. She was snappy and dismissive of my attempt to discuss the wines. She was all business and that was that. Not at all like other fine restaurants I’ve dined at. Now I’ve always wondered about their Wyralah beef that is soo expensive and should be correspondingly soo good. So I ordered the fillet and lobster tail with the three digit price tag. I mentioned to her that last time I had a tail at Eddie’s the butter was only half melted and I hoped it would be hot this time. She got somewhat defensive but I felt I should mention it so my tail wouldn’t be spoiled again by cool butter. When I received the Wyrlah fillet I was very surprised to find it over cooked, chewy and rather tough. It was like they had slipped in a piece of lower grade beef. The server sensed my dissapointment and asked half heartedly if I wanted another steak but at that point in the meal I didn’t want to wait for it and who knows if it would be any better. The server did become a bit chatty after she had delivered the check and I was contemplating the tip. There must be a word for this in the restaurant trade.
Now admittedly it was a busy evening but I don’t think a fine restaurant should lower their standards on busy occasions, they should limit the number of reservations to the number of guests they can comfortably accommodate.
Although we have been a regular fan of Eddie Merlot's for almost the past decade, the thrill is starting to go. The menu keeps dropping our favorite items in favor of newer higher priced selections with less overall variety. Primarily high end steaks. Little details like a manager stopping by to see how we were doing did not even occur. Coat room was closed. Had to ask for water glass to be filled. Basically the dinner/evening was on par with most standard steak
restaurants, nothing special. Overall the evening was a disappointment compared to the many great memories we previously had when dining at Eddie Merlot's.
As we expected, the food was fantastic. My wife and I celebrated our 3 year wedding anniversary and there is not better place for dinner then Eddie Merlot’s. We decided to make it a tradition to go back every anniversary. Harry our server and Rodney the assistant server were fantastic. Very knowledgeable and very friendly.
Our favorite place!!
Every time we go, everything is perfect — it may sound boring, but in fact, this kind of “boring” is great. We went during Indianapolis Restaurant Week — 2 of our party went with the price fixe menu (for the filet, del Mare style) while the rest of the party went to the “regular” menu (which is updated seasonally) which evolves gradually (the creamed corn now has a touch of bourbon, while other veg sides have harissa or jalopena notes added). The staff is always willing to modify to meet the customers’ desire and meals here really are a cooperative venture in individual cuisine, very rare these days even among great restaurants.
Also, the bar has outstanding cocktails (on the menu, a Manhattan made with a specially selected single barrel Knob Creek and burnt orange peel flamed at table) and unlisted limited editions for those who want to explore (we tasted a Four Roses single barrel, cask strength and a 21 year old Jefferson Presidential bourbon).
We tried Eddie Merlot's during Devour Indy. The service was spectacular and so was the food. Nick, our server was very knowledgeable about selections and wine pairings. Especially good french onion soup and creamed spinach. Perfectly cooked filet. We will be back.
My husband and I came for the Devour Indy Experience. My husband and I came for the Devour Indy Experience. We always want to try places we never really heard of and see if we will come again. I had some pros and cons about this place.
Cons: Kinda crowded. The walking traffic inside was very congested. The table they put us in was very wobbly that I was worried that our plates and glasses would tip over.
Pros: Atmosphere was nice. Despite the crowds, the staff made us feel very comfortable. They were so nice and friendly. Savannah was our waitress. She was so sweet. She really tried to help us find another table unfortunately there were none available. 😕 The food was delicious. We had Crab cake for an appetizer. Filet Del Mar with shrimp and crab with potatoes for dinner. My husband had red velvet cake and I had Creme brûlée for dessert. We loved it. Definitely will come again.
