Eddie Merlot's Prime Aged Beef & Seafood - Cincinnati Ratings and Reviews
Arrived at 7:55 pm for our 8:00 pm reservation. The hostess said that they would be seating the 7:45 pm reservations shortly and that they would text me when our table was ready. We went to the bar and had a drink at one of the high top tables. We were then asked to move as the tables were only for reservations. We received a test at 8:15 pm and went to the hostess stand. There was a lot of confusion and we were finally seating at 8:20 pm - not in the main restaurant area but in a back area which is probably used most for dinner meetings for a single group. When the waiter arrived, I asked for a new water glass as it was dirty - which he agreed. He took our order and said that hot bread would be coming shortly. We finally received it 15 minutes after we were seated. The waiter apologized. We ordered and our food took forever to receive. However, 20 minutes into our wait for our food, the wait staff did deliver us food - however, it was for another table. Our meal finally came and it was overall very well prepared. Nearing the end of our meal, the room cleared out and we were the only ones remaining. The staff then began rearranging tables and chairs. Moving some tables away into another room and bringing in additional chairs. This is not the type of atmosphere I want when I spend over $150 for two people. Very disappointed and will not return. There are much better choices in Cincinnati for the money spent.
This was our first time here, we usually eat down the road at a different steak house. Heard great things about EM and was not disappointed. It's a different atmosphere for sure but very nice place.our waiter was Adam and was on point with everything we wanted. The sweet and spicy shrimp was fantastic for an app, great presentation. My steak was on par with the other steak house we frequent. Perfectly cooked and delicious. My wife had the new Orleans mix grill and loved it all. For dessert we had the cinnamon roll and ice cream, it was ridiculously good. I had wanted the peanut butter dessert but their chefs were not happy with their product that night so it was unavailable. I respect them sticking to their standards and I was offered a dessert if I wanted it, it was a good idea we shared the cinnamon roll it was HUGE. Overall the food and service was perfect and priced a little lower than our normal spot. Will be back again.
I took my wife here for a Valentine’s day dinner date and reserved for 8:30pm. We were seated after about a 30-minute wait. There were still other people ahead of us but we found out only after approaching the hostess that they erroneously gave our seat to another couple. We were hoping they’d give something complimentary because of the mix up but they didn’t offer. We just enjoyed the evening and did not want this to spoil the dinner. The chips and dip was really good. The arctic char and shrimp was a tad salty while the vegetarian pasta was on point and very delicious.
We were there for valentines. Our server Kirk was terrible. There was a table next to us and they ordered lots of drinks and promised him a good tip & that is were he put all of his focus. We waited a long time before he even acknowledged us. When he finally came over to us, we ordered a beverage and a soup and salad. He took our menu before we placed our order. We had to ask for more water, he never refilled my tea. He was holding hands with those people. He never took his eyes off them and ignored his other tables, he was the worse server I ever had. Customers should not be treated according to their liquor consumption, we got better service from the young guy clearing tables. I reported Kirk to a manger when leaving. We dine here often, I have booked numerous business dinners and several Christmas company private events here. He cost your restaurant a lot of future dollars.
We had a reservation at 7:45 for Valentines Day. We didn't get in until 8:15. there was a very loud table near us and the waiter was playing up to the people so it was noisier. We had the New Orleans Grill. The fillet was minute, BUT med. rare as we requested. the shrimp were overcooked and tough. My salad and my husband's steak tartar were good. We asks to split a bowl of ice cream for dessert as we just wanted a little something sweet. I don't know if the waiter thought it was not enough or whatever but he just kind of slung it on the table . He was very nice earlier in the evening but seemed grumpy at the end. All in all it wasn't a pleasant experience. We have eaten at Eddie Merlot's many times before and have never had this experience.
My wife and I dined here on Valentines Day. This was our 4th visit in the last 6 months, so we really like Eddie Merlots. Even though it was Valentines Day and they were very busy, everything went smooth. They had plenty of staff to cover a busy evening. The kitchen was ready for the rush and served excellent food in a timely manner. The service was pleasant, professional and not at all rushed. We very much enjoyed our visit.
Eddie Merlot’s has been one of our go to restaurants to have a nice evening out. Good steak, impressive wine list, exceptional wait staff. I’m not sure how a restaurant of this caliber can’t cook a proper steak? My husband ordered medium plus, just pink in the center. The steak was bleeding onto the plate. The waitress was clueless (most can see just upon observation that it wasn’t done properly). We opted not to complain and just took it home where I “cooked” it the next day for my son. On a positive note, the toppings were great! We also noted many changes to the menu. One, the Lobster bisque has been replaced with crab and corn chowder! No thanks. Overall, a rather disappointing night out .
Spent over $250 for a dinner for two, and our steaks came out cooked wrong for us, so when sent back our sides became cold. When steaks came back out, the Oscar style was not on it and we had to request that as well again. No compensation or even dessert was given. When a couple orders trio medallions and also a tomahawk steak along with apps and sides, we expect good, timely service, not for our meal to be broken up and not even able to enjoy our sides with our steak. Lady next to us sent hers back, and we heard waiter say he would take it off her Bill! We were not rude by any means to anyone about it, but after the fact are extremely disappointed. Especially since we rarely ever get a date night, and this was for my birthday and Valentine's date.
Disappointed some things changed in the menu. The steak was bland and not nearly as good as it has been in the past. My son ordered a 4 oz steak off the children's menu for $16.95 and I had a lean cut 6 oz for $45. They were the same size. Seems kind of strange to have 2 prices of identical meat with such a large price difference. I usually love Eddie Merlot, but was disappointed. Our service was wonderful though. The waiter was very attentive and kind even though it did take a little longer than usual to be served our meal
Just not what it used to be....Now just another chain restaurant. Requested two weeks ago for a seat in lounge in front of fireplace . Was seated in banquet room in front of non-working fireplace. Noted table we requested turned 3 times while we were there. Server rolled his eyes when we ordered fig appetizer and Tableside for two. He said he didn’t like either of them. Out of Duckhorn Pinot. Cappuccino machine shut down for the night. Didn’t mention free carrot cake for members. No intention to go back. Was happy to see server David. He’s fantastic. Will only go back if he’s taking care of my table.
Experience was overall good, but this is by no means a fine dining restaurant. Nice size portions, so you won't leave hungry like some fine diners, but the quality of food is NOWHERE near a Jeff Ruby restaurant. The classic sides could be made at home, not enough flavor/special seasonings to set them apart. Got the asparagus & Eddies potatoes with the filet and it was all along the lines of something you could get at Longhorn Steakhouse so not even close to worth the price paid. Good, fun, upbeat atmosphere that made it have the feel of a casual restaurant and the 5 "servers" we had were all very attentive. Possibly the chef had a bad day or was out sick with the flu like everyone these days. Would not go back for a special dinner, but maybe to hang out at the bar and get some wine and appetizers.
