Echo & Rig Steakhouse & Butcher Shop - Sacramento
We put a unique nose-to-tail spin on the traditional steakhouse, allowing diners to indulge in the best cuts of meat for incredibly approachable prices.
A butcher before a steakhouse, we use every part of the animal. We care about every animal - how it lived, what it ate, and how it was cared for.
Our 7,000 square foot space is located in the Downtown Commons Neighborhood (DOCO) in the lobby of The Sawyer Hotel. Situated on the bustling J Street corridor facing the Golden 1 Center main entrance.
We have a versatile space: a private dining room with audio/visual capability, an outdoor patio, and an outdoor bar available for rent.

Food was okay. Some folks got to see all the steaks ahead of time, we didn’t get offered that service. Ambiance is not great, weird fluorescent lighting and extremely noisy.
Coral was our waiter and he was fantastic. He was pleasant, attentive and friendly.
The food was great.
A nice start to our evening before the Kings game.
Great food, great prices!!
The entire staff was amazing. The hostess saw on my face that I was not happy with the first place they sat us and they immediately corrected it by offering us a booth. A manager came to me quietly escorted me to an open booth and it turned our night completely around. Our server was amazing very professional and timely and the chef came out to meet us face-to-face and we shook hands. Before I left that night the chef came out again and gave me his business card to make sure if I need anything I could call him. A++
My husband and I dined at Echo and Rig for a weekday date night. We were impressed the first second we walked into the door. We were greeted upon entry and one of the managers at the hostess table helped us with our coats. We were 10-15 minutes early for our reservation. We expected to have to wait but we were sat immediately. The food was amazing! Everyone that touched our table was so polite and friendly. We felt like family. I highly recommend the fried spinach ( nothing like I have ever tasted) and medium cooked filet mignon. My husband loved his steak and Mac and cheese. World class service from the second we walked in. We will definitely return with friends
They have a menu that has something for everyone. My daughter was taking me out before a Kings game and she chose here since she’s been before w friends. Service was very good and it seemed they were pushing to turn over the table before the game started. We had portobello fries (very good!) and she had prawns (3 large ones for $27 is pricey) and I had steak salad (6-7 cubes of steak about 1/2-3/4 inch each alongside a large plate of greens w blue cheese mixed and a couple medium size croutons; I think $15). Steak very good; I should have asked how much was on dish before ordering. Or doubled the meat. Upscale so I understand higher prices; however, hard to justify $85 w two soft drinks and tip. Price is only issue; place was full so it must not be too big a deal.
Our waitress Mary was fabulous and had great conversations with her.
Great food and service...steaks were spot on.
Went for my birthday lunch and it's was fantastic!!
Was really disappointed, went for my husbands birthday, ordered spencer steak medium and it came rare. They took my whole plate to cook my steak longer, brought it back burnt and left off the rest of my meal. We ordered sides which came 20 minutes after and no one came over when I complained.
For a high end prime steakhouse, they need to step .up their kitchen and service
The noise level is so bad in the restaurant you literally cannot have a conversation
We sat in the back and still couldn’t hear.
"This is the worst restaurant I have been too for Brunch. We usually go to Grange, Bacon and Butter, Porch etc, and I thought we would try something new. Had a reservation at 10- waited 10 minutes to be seated, and the restaurant was NOT FULL- it was maybe 1/3rd filled. Once seated, order was taken and then we just waited- took almost 28 minutes for the mimosa to arrive- when asked, the waiter said- " Ohh.. they are making it " How Long does it take to make a mimosa. Lots of aimless walking arounds- no purposeful movements.
Food: Egg Benedict- thought I was having eggs Benedict at Denny's. nothing special.
Croissant- waited 20 minutes for it- and it was cold with no sides of preserves, or butter.
Salmon Benedict: first we got a salmon platter - this was after waiting almost 40 minutes for our food, and then we waited again for the salmon Benedict.
Its so so so sad- we thought it would be great, its a great location and a great hotel, how can it not be good? But It is. we were so glad our friends could no make it - we would have been so embarrassed. The worst brunch experience ever in Sacramento.
Very good, great food, great service. My only semi-complaint would be that they stuck us (party of 4) in the very back corner behind a wall where we couldn't see any of the restaurant and we were near three huge parties so it was extremely loud.
I chose this restaurant that was recommended by a friend. It was my wife’s birthday and we were attending the Kings game afterward. Our seating was exactly at our reservation time. Dion was an excellent waiter. Very knowledgeable, patient and caring. Outstanding hostess, waiter and overall restaurant. Would highly recommend.
Date night with wife
Meal was very tasty
The special take on the Negroni cocktail was my favorite..
The staff was very professional and attentive. Food was good but nothing really unique.
Brunch was mediocre and felt like just another hotel restaurant. Good service but food was meh. Was expecting more. Over hyped.
We had a great experience at Echo & Rig. We had a night away from the kids and started out with dinner.
The place was lively, a bit hard to identify and figure out where to walk in from the hotel (Kimpton Sawyer). The staff was professional, friendly, attempted to get to know us and why we were dining. Our waiter was great with the menu and drinks, and the other folks kept our table clean and water glasses full.
The food - we had two of the three chef’s faves the Spencer’s cut and rib eye tips, carrots, and garlic mashed with cheddar. Everything was great to exceptional, except the garlic mashed - we both agreed was average (but still yummy!).
I had a bubbly and berries, the hubby a wicked negroni and both were spot on.
We will be back for our next occasion or to bring out of town guests.
The food was amazing but the service definitely needs some work!
Excellent lunch options for decent price!
Our wait staff was excellent. We went with the recommended options and liked all of them. The place was cold and we had to wear our coats though out the meal. That was the only distraction from an otherwise excellent experience.
I thoroughly enjoyed every dish. The cold seafood dishes and the crab cakes were fantastic as well as the veggie dishes but the filet minion cooked in the wood fired oven had such an amazing flavor that I then understood what makes Echo & Rig so special.
First experience service was great very friendly and knowledgeable about the food. The steaks were excellent, great Ceasar Salad, the chip type potatoes were ok but didn’t fit with the Filet Mignons baked potato or a veggie would have been better
Every thing we ordered was absolutely fabulous!!! Filet, tiger prawns, bone marrow app and calamari app, with drinks under $150. Steak cooked perfect, nice wine options. Can't say enough, just a perfect dining experience!!!!!
Great service - not too snobby but professional and fun. Great food - yummy options, but not too crazy.
The service was excellent and the food was very good. Will definitely return soon
Food and service were great!. The restaurant, is corridored with one wall being made almost entirely of glass windows. This enhanced the hustle and bustle acoustics making it very noisy. As I had a divider next to me, and and a glass windows in front of me, made it very difficult to have conversation with my date who sat right across the table from me. In all a great experience with the menu and service. The ability to make reservations on line, and a follow up confirmation is sent is also great.
We came back for more! We visited here a month ago and we came back with friends for a special night. Once we got to the table, the serve was incredible, attentive, personal, and informative. We ordered a few items and shared! We love the creative aspect of ingredients for a unique taste. (only note for a less star is we waited 25 min for our reservation in the bar and the bartender passed by us again and again without stopping once). Because everyone else was so attentive we enjoyed our time here.
The restaurant has great potential. Fantastic location, creative food and drink menu with fantastic brunch options, and a comfortable and classy space in walking distance to everything in DOCO. Unfortunately, they just aren't ready for prime time yet. Even after completing our meal, we had no idea who our server was. Another restaurant staff sat us, a manager in a suit took our order and the runners brought the food out (2/3 of the items were what we ordered). There were a lot of restaurant staff around with very few customers in the restaurant but no one seemed to really be doing anything. It was a very odd experience but the food and location more than made up for it.
Since Bandera closed, we have been looking for a good steakhouse in the Sacramento area. We found it. Echo & Rig was excellent from start to finish. The hostess was very friendly, our waitress was attentive and knowledgeable, and the executive chef even came out to ask us about our experience. The food was delicious. We had the ribeye and filet, with the broccolini and garlic mash.
We highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion.
Made reservations UI III be for 7 pm and then restaurant even called me 2 hours ahead to confirm.. we waited 35 mins before we were seated at the table. Ordered drinks and waited another 15 mins for my finger able to arrive. Next thing, received an email from the restaurant stating my reservation was cancelled .
Service needs to improve but overall good food...will think twice if I want to go back
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! If I lived closer, I would come here once a week or more. Everything was delicious and the server was excellent!
Great service and food. The dinner was the most I've ever spent for food in my entire life but it was worth it
Excellent experience 20oz bone-in NY cooked perfectly .
Such an amazing meal from beginning to end. Not a single complaint, everything was perfect.
Was a little disappointed. Our steak wasn't amazing for the price. Hard to have a conversation with someone sitting right next to you...very loud.
We had a special breakfast from our Christmas celebration with my kids on 12/24. We stayed at the Sawyer the night before so we decided to try their breakfast. Very disappointing. The continental breakfast at a 2 star hotel is far better. Very limited option. We ordered the eggs with bacon. Eggs were almost burnt, my oatmeal is so-so and my son’s breakfast wrap is not seasoned. Over all for a high end restaurant it’s a total flop! The guy who served us our food seems to be still sleeping, movement was in slow motion, no eye contact and didn’t even smile to us. I should have learned my lesson cause we live in the area so we tried this restaurant prior. The first week they opened we were there and everything was perfect. Loved everything in the menu, we ordered almost every appetizer and small plate that night and the customer service was superb! Then we cane back 2 months later and the shrimp cocktail we ordered was freezer burnt. We were seated at the bar and the bar tender immediately saw the shrimp didn’t looked good, so he came over right away and asked if we need it changed... how can this dish gone out and served? Whoever is in charge of the kitchen needs to hear this, the quality of your food is very poor!
A total waste of time and money. I had to give min a star for each category, I had no other choice. Definitely not a place to recommend, not even to my enemies...
I was impressed with the menu and my ribeye was well cooked. There is a great selection of sides and small plates. Everything was good, but the service really was poor. My wife asked for some pepper multiple times and did not get any. We never got refilled on water, and they were out of my first and second selection. I would like to return again and see if I just caught on off night. Once the food came, however, it all but made up for the service issues.
Service was slow, but the food was well worth the wait. We ordered soup, salad, 4 small plates and dessert. All were well prepared and delicious. Although it’s a steak house, the menu is quite versatile with many good vegetarian options.
