So fun! Delicious food, mouth watering oysters, excellent server. And all in the location where Kenmore Square’s beloved Rathskeller used to be! Fantastic!
Great spot to grab excellent food and cocktails before a Sox game!
Wonderful atmosphere, great service, great food. We split an order of the mussels which were excellent. My spouse had the salmon which was flavored with orange flavor, a bit of heat. I had the streak frites.
Dined here after attending ball game at Fenway on the recommendation of a friend. The ambiance is nice and our server was attentive. However the food was just okay imo. I had the monk fish which lacked flavor. The broccoli rabe was extremely bitter, I am normally a big fan of broccoli rabe but this was just not tasty. My husband had the steak frites which he enjoyed. Since I was underwhelmed by my meal we opted to head to the north end for some dessert instead.
Great drinks, great food, fun atmosphere, always consistent!!
I have never had such amazing service at a restaurant! Waiter was professional, engaged in excellent conversation when asked and discreet about taking away plates, serving, etc. He explained and recommended items for vegetarians, paired drinks, and overall was knowledgeable about the menu. He made our dining experience a night to remember.
Great service. Food came out quickly and was tasty
Four of the six people at our table ordered steak frites medium and they all came rare. We did not have time to send back as we were getting to a show.
In addition, I ordered a vodka martini and wanted blue cheese olives. The bartender did not have either vodka I asked for (No Grey Goose or local favorite Bully Boy????) and quite frankly was not friendly at all. He also said he had no blue cheese olives which was understandable. When I got my martini the olives were just bland and not flavorful at all.
Very disappointed, will not be back.
have heard about your restaurant for many years but this was the first time i tried it. everything was great to include outstanding service, hard to find these days!! the food was amazing and the ambiance, great! thanks.
ES is one of my favorite places to go in Boston - it's near the Kenmore T stop and bus station and easy to bike to from Brookline. It can get quite busy, so sometimes there is a wait, even if you have a reservation. We waited 20 mins this last time for our table, which sucked because we were hangry. A free prosecco or apology would have gone a long way :) But I will be back for sure! Great bar and outdoor seating area. Thank you.
We had a great time before going to see dido at house of blues.
I would recommend to a friend solely for their food and ambiance and just hope that they get better service than we did. I enjoyed the burger and tuna salad and appetizers. Did not like the steak tartare but it might be an acquired taste. However, we received less than satisfactory service. Besides coming by once to take our order and then once give us our check, I can't recall any other interactions we had with our waitress. She wasn't rude or anything, just not very attentive and left us with a sub-par experience.
ES checks all the boxes always.
They never seem to have enough waitstaff. We were kept waiting at every stage. We waited excessively long times to order food, drinks and to get our bill. The food is reliably good, but the service is frustrating. Note the servers were not the problem, they just had way too many tables.
Encountered the rudest most obnoxious waiter we’ve ever experienced and management were ok about dealing with it, but would expect them to do more.
Recommended by an associate and was not disappointed. Best place to stop while in Boston for a fine-dining experience that manages to still feel comfortable (not stuffy.) They do not have a huge menu, which is a huge strength, because what they do have on their menu they do the very best they can. Will return when I'm in Boston in the future!
Our waiter Jared was excellent during the entire meal, even packing our take home box in a most efficiently neat manner. The Calamari was delicious with good taste, crunch and not greasy. The marrow bone appetizer had hardly any marrow in the bones and was instead filled with a chopped bacon mixture. I would have love more marrow in a “marrow” bone. The brisket special Thursday dish was tasty but very fatty and the spatzle was too soft and extremely salty. My chicken dish was cooked to perfection with the chicken tender and moist. However, the fava beans with marrow were so so salty that I could not eat many of them. The garlic bread pudding was nicely done. My son had the pasta dish which he enjoyed and the house salad was fine. Overall, we enjoyed the experience as the atmosphere was pleasant and nicely appointed. However, we would surely love it more if the dishes had much less salt.
Hope this feedback is helpful. We would love to return but would be concerned that the foods might be too salty again. Thanks for your interest in our experience.
Always immaculate. We had a phenomenal time in the patio. Thank you Tim and Ruby!
Table was ready for us promptly at the time of the reservation. Got a beautiful patio table on a gorgeous day. I kept eating the food even though I was STUFFED because it was so good! I can't do gluten or dairy plus I am pregnant so the salmon lunch with a Shirley Temple and prosecco strawberry sorbet was PERFECT! Delicious and service was TOP KNOTCH!
Great location, service from staff and food was awesome.
Staff made sure all water glasses full at all times
Two of our guests from out of town ordered dishes that didn’t represent the Eastern Standard- fatty hunks of pork in the split pea soup and rubbery-monk fish. So disappointing.
Probably the best steak I have had in a while. Everything from the smile when i was greeted to the service was excellent. Would highly recommend! (And I am fussy about steak...)
My friend and I had a wonderful experience at Eastern Standard. Our server was highly knowledgeable of wines and gave excellent recommendations and followed up with a taste to make sure we were happy with our selections. She also was helpful with the menu and just made us feel at home. All restaurant experiences should be like this - where you feel welcome and like a proper guest, never having to want for anything as the timing and pacing of the meal was perfect.
Good location, however food was cold
Food was generally very good; well-executed American classics served in generous portions. Mac and Cheese, baked rigatoni, bone marrow, panino, burger all great. Foie was exceptional but plated poorly- on a wooden board with one of the sauces in dots surrounding the perimeter, very hard to “scoop” with a knife and add to the bread. Cheesesteak was a little rough, too; an un-toasted baguette is the wrong choice for bread as it’s tough to bite off a chunk with the rest of the sandwich being so soft. Too messy for a restaurant like this. Mornay was a bit grainy but we were a party of 7, which is a challenge for holding sauces like that as the rest of the food comes to the pass. Stunningly beautiful restaurant, sommelier was wonderful, generally great meal. Bathrooms off-site in the hotel next door, which took away from the experience.
The atmosphere is pub like a bit loud, service staff is excellent......seafood is outstanding. I ventured to try the prime rib, my recommendation is that they remove it from the menu. It is cooke rare and served just about cold......everything else was great!
One of our favorite places. Great drinks and food pre-Red Sox game.
This is a great restaurant. But between a Red Sox Day/Night doubleheader, it’s a bit frenetic. All the same, we had a lovely time and very good burgers!
Great food and ambiance. Definitely recommend.
Food was very good... a bit loud for us....
Excellent ambiance and service. Food is good, but needs some tweaking to match the amazing quality of the room. Portions were too large, halibut was extremely salty, combinations of flavors were a B+. Drinks are excellent. Will return again!
Always delicious and love the atmosphere 😊
The cocktails were amazing, the oysters delicious, the charcuterie eclectic and well paired. My girlfriend had the salad with ahi tuna, the tuna was fresh and cooked perfectly. My only complaint was my meal, the wednesday pork special. maybe thats how that dish is supposed to be served but it was really bland and the pork was chewy. service was friendly knowledgable and quick, will be back for sure
Second time I have dined here! Great service and the food was outstanding... I have to say the the oysters were some of the best I’ve ever had... if there was any downside it would be the deserts.
Food: Rib eye was excellent!! It’s a must!! Pork chop for us was normal, not outstanding.
Dessert: bread pudding was so delicious. I really love it!
Would definitely come back again!!
The food and presentation was amazing - but the waitstaff were phenomenal!
I have been going to Eastern Standard for years. I have lunch there regularly, and go there for work dinners several times a year. I had family in town and thought that it would be a great place for dinner, where both meat eaters and vegetarians would be happy. Three meals (salmon, panini, and chicken) were great, and the service was very attentive. Kudos there, especially the wait staff's efforts to make it a nice meal. However, the waiter promoted the spaghetti and meat balls, and two people ordered it. Unfortunately, they were polite and ate the meatballs and picked at the pasta and didn't tell me that they were unhappy with their meals until after or I would have said something to the waitstaff then and there. But the pasta was glued together in one big lump and was apparently quite pasty and tasteless, having been overcooked. I hope that they work on this dish, especially if they're offering it as a weekly special. The rest of the meal was lovely and it could have been one of those perfect meals where everyone is happy.
We always have the most amazing service here! Everyone is so incredibly nice! The food is delicious and the setting is wonderful. One of our all-time favorite restaurants!
The food and service were very good.
The tuna was full of sinew and not a pleasure to eat. The tuna on the Niçoise salad and similar dishes used to be perfect—herbs on the outside, perfectly cooked, and from the loin or whatever, that had very little sinew. Also the greens on the salad were lower in quality than in many past visits.
