Eastern Standard Ratings and Reviews
Great experience, excellent food, wonderful staff that went out of their way to ask if it was a special occasion and then helped make it nice celebration. Excellent cocktails, creative, balanced menu. It was our second time there, we’ll continue to keep going.
Friendly service, definitely not rushed. Salad was plentiful and fresh and beautifully presented. Steak was mediocre at best: over-salted, not particularly flavorful. Perhaps salt was there to bring out flavor which it did not. Not a recommended main course. Noisy.
This is a great restaurant - fun atmosphere, good food, great service. The only problem I have here is that on two different occasions (months apart from each other) the steak was not well prepared. The first time I ordered the steak, I ordered it medium rare. When it arrived, it was rare and I couldn't eat half of it because it was too raw for my taste. (I did not send it back because I was already full from the amazing appetizers.) The second time I ordered the steak, I ordered medium - thinking this would get me something closer to medium rare. This time, it was slightly better than the first, but it was still closer to rare than to medium. And when it arrived on the table, it was cold. While I still recommend this restaurant overall, I will not order the steak again.
Ok, I love this place. The belle de jour drink, the food, the caliber of service. Somehow the kitchen brought our food before our seafood sampler which really caused allot of unhappiness (and cold entrees.) The folks who brought the food were not aware of our specific request to have the seafood platter first. So lots of back and forth. The hostess was gracious and did everything in her power to fix this and we appreciated this tremendously. So, while this kind of threw a wrench in the overall dining experience, it reinforced to me what good service is. So back I will go because Eastern Standard has standards of excellence and I appreciate it (and the food is great!!) Try it....
Hubby and I chose to dine here on a recent Saturday overnight trip to Boston. Selected this based on its location and our itinerary, plus positive reviews and menu options/reasonable prices. Made an advance reservation for 5p. Arrived a little earlier and were seated promptly in a cozy corner booth.
Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable. We were both a bit overwhelmed by the cocktail menu--it's larger than the food one!--and were pleased with the suggestions our server made.
We enjoyed a starter of a dozen oysters--3 each from 4 different featured locations--before having our mains (I went with the swiss chard melt, while Hubby chose the burger). Both were delicious, no frills, and served with generous sides of fries/homemade potato chips.
Ambiance is comfortable and bistro chic without being stuffy or pretentious. Staff works seamlessly and servers seem to support each other to keep things moving along at a good hum. We never felt rushed, and also never felt neglected, even as the dinner hour pressed on and the restaurant got busier.
Given that this restaurant seems to be open for all meals, including breakfast (it's attached to a hotel, which we did not realize), it shows little signs of wear-and-tear, and was clean, comfortable, and an excellent option for an informal, relaxed meal before an evening BSO performance.
Wonderful meal and experience. We had a 9pm reservation, arrived promptly at 9pm, and were immediately seated in a lovely booth. Martinis were ordered and served, quickly, and I noticed each time a round was delivered, the server announced it, "Tito's dirty martini, shaken," I liked that. Shortly thereafter a dozen oysters were placed in front of us, each of the 3 oyster types expertly explained, and each more delicious than the next. Followed by the Roasted Bone Marrow, and Steak Tartar. Killer. My significant other ordered the Ribeye with the blue cheese, and the smoked porkblade for myself. Rib eye was amazing, cooked perfectly and packed with delicious fatty ribeye flavors, complimented tremendously by the blue cheese. My Porkblade, so juicy and perfectly cooked, you can really taste the smokiness. A true delight. My only qualm, and it isn't even major, just worth mentioning, is that I would have preferred less barley on the side, and maybe some greens instead. Which actually reminds me, we also had a side of Brussel sprouts which were, like everything else, absolutely phenomenal. A cappuccino and a double espresso later and we were staring down the Bread Pudding. It was a staring contest that ended quickly, because that poor dessert didn't stand a chance. I am coming back to Boston in September, and will definitely be making another reservation at Eastern Standard. A special place to be shared with someone special, for sure.
Our first time here and we loved it! Staff was very friendly, prompt, and helpful. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and helped us make food and alcohol selections. We chose the calamari, salmon, and half roasted chicken - very pleased with all the dishes and the portions. The chicken was my personal favorite - the flavor was so rich and savory! Ended with their most popular butterscotch bread pudding. It did not disappoint and was a great portion for 2!
This place is cute. The starters were better than the entrees so the food is good but not amazing. The cocktails were great but were served in plain glasses, which do not do them justice. Service was great! I recommend this for something like a date in casual atmosphere.
Food and cocktails were excellent. Service was a bit slow. One drink order missed. One food order missed. Three of us asked if we wanted milk or cream but still all got both... So 3 milks and 3 creams taking up table space? Took too long to get check. Also the black tea was earl grey (there may have been other options but were not offered). Recommend changing default tea to tea that doesn't taste like soap... English breakfast perhaps.
We love Eastern Standard! We went for Christmas Day, and the limited menu options were delicious! Even on a busy day, the wait staff was attentive and worked really well together. Despite constant pressure, every course arrived at the proper temperature, and was paced to allow for a leisurely meal. We love the room, because even when completely packed, the noise level is such that conversation is easy. Eastern Standard remains one of our favorite places to dine, and we'll return.
This spot has mass appeal, and for good reason. It's classy, but unpretentious. Service tends to be very good. The food is somewhere between comfort, steakhouse and creative french? Personally, I believe that the drinks are where this place shines; the cocktails are really lovely.
I love Eastern Standard, but their Salade Niçoise has suffered since my last visit. It used to be rather French, very visually appetizing, with mesclun, freshly seared tuna, olive tapenade, eggs and wonderful haricots verts that seemed freshly sautéed. Yesterday’s Niçoise had iiceberg lettuce, lots of tomatoes, cold and raw chunks of tuna, and no hint of anything French. When I asked where the haricots verts were, they brought cold, canned green beans. I hate food waste, but I couldn’t eat it as it was no longer a healthy option. Instead, they brought me the Melted Chard sandwich. This is a delicious and healthy vegetarian option but it unfortunately suffered from the cold pre-cooked chard in what was meant to be a warm pressed sandwich. Service was great and the staff accommodating. I only hope they bring care back to their offerings. The Butterscotch Bread Pudding was as amazing as ever!
Strip Steak was barely edible- very very tough. Most of it was left uneaten.
Salads were good but not great. Not much flavor at all.
The Escargot was amazing however.
Cocktails were delicious.
Our sever - Connor- was fantastic and made up for the mediocre meal.
Great and knowledgeable waitstaff. I stay here intermittently from out of town and this is the place I trust to learn about cocktails. The waiter was very helpful guiding my selection. Apps are yummy and Brussels sprouts a must ( converted my 18 year old daughter into a brussel sprout fan!). I ordered the trout which was a disappointment- my daughter’s baked pasta dish was fantastic and I had been the night before and everyone love their meal so in general can’t go wrong - highly recommend ( except the trout!)
