We have come to you a couple of times and it was always an excellent experience. This time though the steak and the burger were very raw. We had asked for medium well.
We had an 11:30 reservation and had to wait 20 minutes to be seated - I understand, restaurants get busy
The table next to us was seated after us, ordered at the same time and received their food before us.
When our food did arrive my wife’s meal was delayed by 10 minutes - we didn’t get to eat together
I love ES - this was my son’s birthday and the service fell well below expectations
We visited ES on a Sunday as a family of 4 (including a toddler and infant) plus a friend. We were warmly greeted and promptly seated. Though I would not consider ES a family restaurant and it was not my first choice for our family because I knew there was no kids menu, the staff was very accommodating and helpful with the kids - much appreciated!
We eat at Eastern Standard every time we are in Boston. Consistently excellent!
Fantastic night! They could not accommodate a request for more people without moving us back 45 minutes, which was a bit disappointing considering they hold 1/3 of the restaurant for walk ins, but all in we had a wonderful meal and great service.
Went to take college daughter for a special dinner out. Nice atmosphere and friendly stsff. Food decent but not outstanding. Great location.
A great bistro find in Boston. Love the Beaujolais emphasis, and the roast chicken was amazing!!
What a beautiful restaurant. The service is unmatched- so attentive and knowledgeable. The menu didn’t seem to have as many options as previous trips, which was a little disappointing, but the food was delicious. Will absolutely return!
Eastern Standard is one of the best value restaurants in Boston and has been for a long time. The food is great, service is great, drink menu is great, atmosphere is great -- and yet its not ridiculously expensive like most restaurants that could be described this way. It's an upscale bar, cocktail scene and its classic brasserie/bistro food executed very well. Hope this place sticks around for a long time...I've been going for 10 years and would love to go for another 10!
Food was just great! Waitress was awesome! Best grilled cheese and roasted chicken!
Food and cocktails as good as I remember 9 years ago - fantastic! So great to go there and rejuvenate after a 6 hour train ride. Will continue to visit ES whenever I travel to Boston.
Great meal for lunch to celebrate a friend's birthday. Lovely wine, great dessert.
Sat at bar which wasn’t busy. 3 bartenders but had to try and flag them down for any service. Too busy chatting with staff.
The breakfast bread basket was delicious! Service was excellent and friendly.
Food was only fair and service was disappointing on this visit.
Really outstanding service. Some of the best service I ever experienced.
Our reservation, made 3 weeks beforehand, was not respected. The restaurant did not have a table ready for us and the one they said we could have when it became available was given to another party. We were eventually seated 50 minutes after arrival by a manager who made to feel we were not welcome, as if we were the problem. The birthday cake which was promised did not materialize. What an awful way to celebrate our daughter's 30th at what used to be our favorite restaurant for special occasions. Eastern Standard is no longer the same place we have enjoyed over the past 5 years.
Eastern Standard never disappoints. We came here before a Red Sox playoff game and it was fun to watch the space fill up. Even with the rush, the service never wavered and the food was great.
It’s such an amazing experience. I made the mistake of not reading my menu carefully and accidentally ordered myself a plate of pasta with goat cheese on top. The waitress was incredibly kind and understanding - she immediately took the dish back and offered me to either change my entree or simply to just return it. I greatly appreciate their amicable attitude. Also the roasted half chicken was bomb.
Enormously disappointed. This restaurant has sunk to new lows from what was once a buzzy go to bistro. This time the steak was inedible, the frites soggy and the water totally indifferent to the quality of the food. Never again!
Our waiter was fantastic, had a wealth of knowledge - especially about the available scotch! Cheese board was excellent. Salmon perfectly cooked, but sauce was overly salty and the burger was a little on the bland side. The Commodore 1 cocktail is phenomenal, will definitely go back just for this drink!
Waiter was attentive and thorough with several food allergies at our table
After we told the waiter that we couldn’t chew our steak and bacically showed him we couldn’t eat it. He replied ,” next time order it medium.
Then he forgot one of the desserts after repeating all orders back to us..
He ruined our night
Great food, great cocktails, great service -- always! Eastern Standard never disappoints! Just wish they'd put the rigatoni on the lunch menu! A big shout out to the front staff for seating us right away even though we arrived 45 minutes late cuz of traffic; and our waitress and the kitchen staff for getting us out of there so quickly, so we could make our show!
I had lunch with a friend and ordered the Nicoise Salad--a go to favorite of mine at this restaurant. My friend had the omelette/fries/salad. Unfortunately I was disappointed in my dish. This is normally a 'deconstructed' nicoise salad with the olive tapenade, potatoes, green beans, etc. ceremoniously displayed along with the tuna across fresh leaves of romaine. Not this time! I'm not sure the source of the tuna but it just didn't taste right. Normally it's seared just a bit but this appeared completely raw. I like sushi so that wasn't the issue--it was really mushy and funny tasting. The rest of the ingredients were in short supply--I had to dig around in the heaps of overdressed romaine lettuce to find a few green beans and potatoes and a few spots of olive tapenade. Yuck. The omelette on the other hand was delightful, the fries were just right--light, hot, not too greasy. And the waitstaff, as always, was attentive. There are plenty of good lunch options--stay away from the Salad Nicoise!
Been to Boston before and once we found this place, we had to go back. This visit we met our son for dinner here (thanks for being open late, helps for late flights, etc.) and the service was exceptional, extremely accommodating, and the food / drinks were superb. Would definitely recommend this to anyone.
Good food with good service, at very reasonable cost. Could not fault.
We were looking for a quiet table at a restaurant where 2 French friends, who had just flown in from Paris, and I could eat oysters. Eastern Standard was recommended to the French friends. We expected it would be quiet enough that we could hold a discreet conversation. But the noise was pervasive. Although we were given an out-of-the-way table, away from the noisiest part of the restaurant, we still had a hard time conversing.
By far our favorite Boston restaurant. Love the creative menu, seasonal offerings, wonderfully prepared and presented food. We go often for lunch, weekend brunch and dinner.
I did send a message through the general website that detailed our experience but I will comment here in case that is not reviewed regularly. Your restaurant is my favorite in the country. I recommend it to literally anyone who mentions a trip to Boston and many, many people have thanked me after wonderful experiences. Unfortunately, my niece is now attending grad school at BU and I drove up Sunday to take her to Fenway and both she and I were excited for her first trip to ES and I was incredibly disappointed. The dining room was mostly unoccupied. The excuse of a harried waitstaff would’ve been more understandable. We were seated quickly, received it drinks in a timely manner and ordered three courses - a cheese board, soup and shishito peppers for an appetizer and steak and pork for dinner. I was surprised and upset to have the cheese and appetizers dropped at the same time and told the runner I expected to enjoy the cheese before having hot food sitting there. He said “sorry” and left it anyway. We had no choice but to push the cheese aside to eat the hot food. As we finished the appetizers, we barely sliced a piece of cheese before our entrees were delivered. I do not typically complain but I politely made it clear that the service was not very good and we hadn’t even had a chance to enjoy the cheese and we were already being served an entree. The waiter offered to keep it in the kitchen to stay warm. I’m sorry. I did not feel that keeping a medium rare hanger steak “warm” would do anything to enhance the flavor and to add insult to injuring I would more likely end up with a well done steak and dried out pork. I told the waiter that. His response was to tell me that if I wanted another drink, it would be free. With a 4 hour drive home I didn’t want another drink and said thank you, no, so he left. Needless to say, my niece, though very polite and reassuring me it was ok, was not impressed with what I promised would be the best meal she’d eat.
Overall it was good and I’ll return. Service was a little slow and it was pretty loud, but still good.
Great food and service
great setting, terrific food and attentive service. I just wish that the music was not so loud (we did request that it be turned down and it was)
Came down from Portland Maine to see a show and figured we would try this place. 10/10 recommend. The food is out of this world and the staff are absolutely wonderful. Very pleased with our choice and will certainly come back the next time we are in Boston.
Having read the reviews, we had high expectations for our Sunday brunch. Unfortunately, we were disappointed; our meals were very bland.
Got right in with our reservation. The restaurant was crowded. We ordered a bottle of champagne and both got the burger which was only around $15 the fries were great. Food and service were quick. Would go back.
We had a great brunch pre concert. Food was great and our waiter was so helpful and creative
Great food, service. Lively upbeat crowd. Fun place with incredible food.
Eastern Standard is my favorite places, hands down, and is especially a great place to bring out-of-town visitors.
Eastern Standard always goes above and beyond. Aside from the phenomenal food and beverages, the service is what sets them apart. A knowledgeable and personable staff make it a very comfortable dining experience that encourages you to try new things. I have yet to be disappointed with anything I eat or drink there.
