Got seated right away, good service and good food. A little noisy.
Good food, good desserts, and good service. I definitely would go back there again. 😊
We've been to Eastern Standard a number of times. We've gone back because it's usually great, but this last visit left us feeling a bit disappointed. We ordered drinks and it took almost 20 minutes to get them. The waiter seemed to be out of sorts, and the food seemed to be sloppily put together. Too bad. Not sure if I'll return.
Great late night dining!
Seated at a noisy table in the middle of the room. Waited about 45 min after apps were served for our dinner. Not much service to the table.
Fantastic as always! Great food and perfect service!
Wonderful dinner tonight at Eastern Standard, located within the Hotel Commonwealth. The trout and accompaniments were deliciously complimented by a vouvray, expertly recommended by Katrina, while my companion happily devoured a rigatoni dish. Everything, including ambience, service and food was flawless. We did have a 5:00 reservation and it was quite full upon leaving thereafter, so I can’t comment on later service efficiency. The bar and dining areas are comfortable with plenty of room between tables and booths but I imagine the bar area could get noisy as it looks like a popular meeting place. Strongly recommend.
Great food and service and good place to linger over conversation. Somewhat noisy but staff all attentive and food delicious. Would definitely return!
Thank you for making our day special
As always, dinner at Eastern Standard was phenomenal! From the service to the food, everything was great. Oysters are the best in town. Calamari was not too heavy and was super flavorful. The prime rib (Saturday special) was unreal and the pork blade was perfect for a cold winter night.
Get a whiskey smash - it's the best!
Always a great all around experience
I have been to ES on numerous occasions for business but this was the first time with the family. My son has life threatening food allergies to nuts, sesame and lemon. The ES staff handled them with grace and assurance. Menu items were altered to meet our needs without hesitation. Mocktails were made for the kids that were re-creations of classic cocktails that were well received.
Food was amazing and my son was ecstatic to be able to have both bread and dessert as both are made in house. Service was second to none. Both timely and warm.
I always liked ES for business dinners as there is something on the menu for all. I would whole heartedly recommend ES to those with allergies looking for great food and high level of comfort with Allergies.
Menu is uninspiring. Boring. Service is great apart from one or two delivering food to table who did not speak English and did not know which oysters were which. Steak tartar was a bit stringy.
Love the sophistication of the atmosphere, menu and service.
Food was good but the service was excellent. t was a bit noisy but fun ambiance.
Wife and I went for a date, stayed at Hotel Commonwealth. We really enjoy the food and atmosphere here. Our server, Souf, was fantastic, an asset to the company. Good menu options, both of our meals were fantatsic. Would definitely come here again!
Fabulous meal and perfect level of service. Music seemed loud but overall energy level
Was high. Restaurant was packed inside and out.
I do not know why I return. I think it is the location which is close to Fenway or BU. The service is almost always average to nonchalant, the menu is not inventive and is missing so much, and the prices just not worth it for what you get. This most recent meal was no exception. The service was bad, inattentive and confused. The food was uninspiring (again) and the whole experience left me feeling like I will not return.
The entrees and sides were beyond outstanding. The fried brussel sprouts were crazy good. And the bread pudding with butterscotch sauce was intoxicating.
This was our second time to Eastern Standard. The food and service was great both times and the menu is inventive. Definitely will come here again.
Eastern Standard has great atmosphere: nice blend of classic and new. Service attentive, food solidly quite good. Banquette was perfect for a get-together brunchfor six; easy to converse and share food. And best of all service was accomodating and we were left to stay as long as we wanted. We'll be back!
Our dinner started with a quick seating for our reserved time. The evening began spiraling downhill from there. Our head waitress was very unfriendly and almost snooty once we were seated. As this was our first visit to the restaurant, we asked questions regarding the menu, looking for a little guidance on specialty cocktails and craft beer. Her response was not a very pleasant facial look. Her drink & food recommendations were slim. Why not embrace your work, talk up the restaurant, enjoy the customers - we were a table of 4, parents with 24 yo son & his girlfriend. The evening picked up once we had our meals, all very delicious. Other table service was excellent from sub waiters.
Wonderful spot for cocktails--and dinner! Excellent service, very professional and friendly. Fun, lively atmosphere. Eastern Standard knows what they're doing--and they do it very well!!!
Love the food. Fun atmosphere. Good service. Always very busy. Need reservations.
Always wanted to try ES. We were early to the bar and it was still difficult to get seating. Seems like all the bars now reserve seats. Bartenders were not all that helpful and a little rude at times. It was interesting that the bar did not carry Macallan Whiskey or Jack Daniels, two very popular brands. The service at the table was fine. However, the Prime Rib special was not very good. The roasted chicken was excellent and the coffee and desserts very good. Not sure I would rush back.
The food was good but not great. My wife and I had two Ribeye steaks and weren't impressed. The hostess was great and super friendly. However, our waiter was horrible. He never followed up with us and we actually ended up having to ask the bus lady for help ordering our desert after waiting for 15-20 minutes once we finished eating. I even placed my empty plate at the end of the table with my napkin placed over as a "hint" to the server that we were done (which I know he saw because I looked directly at his eyes as he looked at it once as he walked by quickly) but he never got the clue ... or just chose to ignore it.
We've been to the Eastern Standard 3-4 times now and enjoy the ambiance more than anything else. The food isn't memorizing in our opinion or breath taking but they do have a good drink menu. I can name a few other places not too far from there that serve up tastier food.
If you want a good place to have a date with good drinks, then this is your place. Just don't expect great food and hopefully your not as unlucky as us and get a HORRIBLE waiter.
It will be a long while before we go back...
Although from out of town we come fairly regularly and have always enjoyed it....the experience this time was " nice " but not up to what we had come to expect....disappointing....waiter was just not what we have come to expect over the years.....
I hadn’t been to ES in a while. My girl friend and I had the steak frites and Trout entrees. We both felt that they were average. In the current dining climate ES needs to do better. We also each had a Moscow Mule. They were served in glasses not the traditional copper cups. The next time we are around that part of Boston we might choose another place to dine.
Perhaps the finest relaxed bistro in Boston.
We visited Eastern Standard for our anniversary and was thrilled with our experience. We were 15 minutes late for our reservation but after calling to let them know they told me they were going to try and hold our spot, but if they couldn't then we would be seated shortly after. We sat immediately and the food was unbelievable. The service at Eastern Standard is second to none and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious meal in the city.
Loved the atmosphere and service but the food was a bit bland. Loved the bread pudding, though!
Great spot for a post-theater dinner with friends! My Salmon and Brussels sprouts were outstanding . Nice wine choices, great bar. Oysters - of course they were superb!
Eastern Standard did the job as a lunch site near Boston University. It's food was just sufficient, not distinguished. I had a salad Nicoise with rather dry tuna and wilted greens.
Eastern Standard's flourless chocolate cake is fabulous! I just miss the foie gras appetizers they used to have.
It was great. Wonderful waiter named Daniel.
Drinks were the best I’ve had!!
We visited Eastern Standard for our anniversary. The location is great, right by Fenway and within the Hotel Commonwealth (once a historic hotel, now modernized). It was a Saturday night so it was busy, but we had reservations. The hostess wasn't the friendliest, and took a long time to acknowledge us, but once she did we were seated promptly. We weren't thrilled with our table, it was tiny and the chairs were not sturdy at all. We requested another table and were moved without an issue. The couple they seated at our previous table also asked to moved, so they may want to update their seating. The food came quickly and was amazing, and the drinks and dessert were also delicious. Despite having a few minor issues, we thought they handled everything well, and we enjoyed our evening.
This was our choice for our 33rd Anniversary. We've been here for lunch/brunch before.
Bottom line: The food was very good, ample, cooked correctly
The service was way too hurried, virtually no descriptions, quick, non-interactive "checking in" on us during our time there.
The "ambience", if it was allowed to use that word, was awful - the room is extremely crowded, diners on top of diners, inadequately designed to ameliorate noise - and my God, the noise level of "dining shouters" was about that of a F-22 jet fighter! Couldn't have a conversation with one another without raising the decibel level another 5 to 10 points.
Never again visit for dinner - was NOT a pleasant experience...BUT, the food was very good.
