About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Lively
  • Great for creative cocktails
Originally opened in 2005, Garrett Harker’s flagship restaurant has reopened its doors just up Beacon St. only three blocks from its original location. Eastern Standard continues to offer seasonally focused New England interpretations of classic brasserie fare, including raw bar and charcuterie, nostalgic favorites like steak tartare, baked rigatoni, steak frites, and butterscotch bread pudding, and some new soon-to-be-instant-classic dishes. Cocktail legend Jackson Cannon has crafted a beverage menu that features an array of craft cocktails both new and classic, a curated selection of wines, and craft beers from near and far.

Please contact events@eshospitality.com to inquire about hosting your private event or large party reservation.

Why they're an Icon

From the OpenTable editors: Acclaimed brasserie Eastern Standard is back and better than ever at the Bower complex. Snag a seat at the oyster shell-inspired bar or in the mahogany-decked dining room for longtime favorites like the baked rigatoni and roasted bone marrow, plus the same showstopping cocktails that earned the restaurant accolades from Esquire and Tales of the Cocktail.

We dined here on a long- awaited return trip to Boston. Eastern Standard at its old location was one of our favorite restaurants ever. I was so sad when they closed, and thrilled to hear of this reopening. We were eager to try it again. Alas, this restaurant bears little resemblance to the former establishment. The menu is quite limited. I had the lobster salad for a starter and my husband had the spring garlic soup. Both were just okay, nothing special. For mains, I had the roasted chicken and my husband had the seared salmon. The mains were decent. My roasted chicken had a very strong Dijon jus ( which was described in the menu but I didn't think it would be so overpowering). I didn't feel it needs the Dijon and would have been better without. My husband's salmon was fine, nothing special. The service was decent and attentive but somewhat cool. We were both quite disappointed and will not bother to return.

Steak tartare delicious. Chilled lobster in green goddess dressing wonderful although a small portion was expecting a complimentary dessert for my birthday.

I have been to this restaurant about 10 times the problem is that it is inconsistent and last night was an example of that. Not really worth it food is ok but menu is increasingly boring.

Our outdoor patio reservation was not honored and we were seated indoors but somewhat near the outside, which was uncomfortably warm (no fresh air, no AC — combining the worst parts of indoors & outdoors). Our table was not offered bread and butter though others were. Service was friendly but ill-timed (multiple times taking away drinks and plates with one remaining bite/sip). Food was good but the value was disappointing, particularly given the overall service awkwardness.

The hospitality I feel every time I set foot into ES, is exactly what I need to feel - welcome, comfortable and among friends. The energy in the room, the large parties, the smaller tables, the activity at the bar - exciting. The food - delicious. Get there earlier if you want specials - because they are great and go fast. The service - Pablo is fabulous and remembers your family and their dietary needs even when months have passed. (Ginger has also served us in the past, and she is similarly wonderful). ES is perfect for a Tuesday night, mid-week boost, or a weekend and celebratory experience. Thank you Garrett. Thank you Sophie. Thank you for your warmth and hospitality.
