East Bay Meeting House Bar & Cafe
We had a lovely dinner at East Bay Meeting House. it would be wise to make reservations, because they had to turn people away that hadn't made reservations that didn't want to sit at the bar. The food was outstanding, as well as the service. Everything was fresh and everyone ate all of their food. I would definitely recommend it and we will be back!
What a find. I have lived in Charleston for a little over seven years and didn't know about this restaurant until a week ago. Same for the other couple we dined with. We just love the cozy atmosphere here, nicely appointed, white cloth table cloths and very comfortable cushioned chairs. This is a big deal for Charleston since so many restaurants here have hard wood chairs and tables with no tablecloth and frankly, very little atmosphere. East Bay Meeting house has all this in spades along with a darling bar area. We had a delicious dinner but I'm excited to try them for breakfast, lunch and high tea as well. There was a darling young girl who was the main server for all the tables as well as the bar tender and she did it all with perfection and ease. The restaurant is very, very small...maybe 7 or 8 tables which can be pulled together for larger groups. We all had great meals and enjoyed the experience overall and will definitely be back.
The owner was great! Very hospitable a d a joy to chat with!
Exceptional care by owner and staff. Food was fantastic.
Wonderful find for dinner before attending the Dock Theater. We enjoyed having a couple of glasses of wine during Happy Hour, quite the deal! The setting, service, meals and dessert were very enjoyable. We would highly recommend East Bay Meeting House for a relaxing evening, wonderful food at a good value.
East Bay Meeting House was hands down the best meal we had in Charleston. It was like being transported to a small European cafe. The ambiance was perfection. The wine selection was nice and reasonably priced. The fig terrine was the perfect start to our meal. Entrees were flavorful and not overly heavy like so much of the food in the area. We received kind and knowledgeable service and had a truly wonderful evening. Highly recommended for a quiet romantic dinner.
Had a lovely meal. The service was great. Very enjoyable.
Wonderful dining experience
Appetizers through dessert were very good. First time in restaurant, will patronize restaurant in the future.
We went here for restaurant week and had a wonderful experience. 5 courses and each one was delicious and the perfect portion. I loved every single course! Service was great too!
Everything was plated nicely. My husband loved his beef Bourginon and my pork loin was very tasty but not hot. The dessert crepe was delicious as was the coffee. Would have given 5 stars if my meal was the proper temperature
Great special menu for New Years Eve. Service and atmosphere were very good.
Great food, Great ambience. Nice Charleston experience.
Amazing little find and the New Year's special was fantastic! Can't wait to go back and try the other items and different meal times
We really like this place. The ample fig and cheese appetizer was delicious. My pasta and shrimp was tasty, and my husband enjoyed the pork medallions. We did not have dessert but on an earlier visit we had Creme brûlée which was terrific. It was a quiet Monday night, but tables are arranged so even if this small place had been full, your neighbors would not be in the conversation. Cordial owner came over to the table a couple of times.
Fabulous meal from beginning to end. Quaint, cozy place to eat with great food and service.
The service was slow and not attentive as you would expect in a small and intimate setting. The starter and salad were good. My wife's shrimp scampi was overcooked - as though it sat under a heat lamp for a while as the shrimp were chewy, the angel hair was tough and the sauce was separated.
Best lobster ravioli I ever had!,Lovely dining experience!
It was like discovering a jewel. We had the very best service and the very best food in a charming intimate setting. All 4 of us declared it our best dinner experience in Charleston!
The entire evening was perfect. The food was indescribable. We had the pork medallions which were perfect! And the desserts incredible!
My friend wanted to only order quiche for dinner and was told it was not an dinner meal and that our reservation would be cancelled. I ordered a dinner salad so they allowed us to stay but the owner came off rude
Thank you so much for your kind review. please let us know the next time you come in and we'll make the experience extra special. Kind regards.
A gem of a place not discovered by the masses. Excellent food and initiate atmosphere of a small French bistro.
Excellent service. Drinks were great. Food was very very good. Quaint atmosphere. Will go back for high tea when I can.
We arrived at a 5:30 Friday reservation to an empty house. We were treated like royalty. The food was ample and superb, and the owner chatted with us at length without being intrusive. If offers very good French fare at very reasonable prices. Some folks were drifting in around the time we left, and a crowded house might change some of my opinions, and I will be back to see if that happens.
Fine dining experience at very reasonable prices. Our best meal while in Charleston.
We went for lunch due to recommendation.
Will not visit again
I had a skimpy chef salad , prepared with Boars Head meat that was $14.00. Really..2 of the 3 salad dressings were not even made in the restaurant.
Husband had curry chicken salad and left hungry .
The menu was limited, over priced and uninteresting.
For $60 with tip we were very disappointed.
I have no idea why the reviews are so good.
Sorry East Bay Meeting House. You should re-evaluate the quality of what you are offering.
Everything was delicious, and the service was perfect. Thanks for a great dinner.
Our dining experience was so wonderful! The ambience, service and cuisine were fabulous! Recommend highly!
Prompt and friendly service. Food was delicious. Booking essential as the seating is limited. Full bar service. Highly recommended
Our meal was fantastic and the service was exceptional. We had family in town from Michigan and they loved the experience.
The best meal I have had in Charleston. So delicious from start to finish. Very friendly awesome quite atmosphere.
Wonderful quiet dinner with my husband and parents. Very quaint and intimate spot. Delious cocktails, apps, entrees and desserts.
What an absolute gem of a restaurant.
Having dined there for dinner, food was fantastic and the restaurant had a lovely ambience to it.
We were greeted by the owner on arrival who is clearly very passionate about the business he is running. This shows in the quality of the food & service.
Very quiet --- classy --- not your usual Charleston menu. Pleasurable evening.
Had 7 pm reservation which was required because it’s a very small place with about 8-10 tables and a bar in the same room. Only one very casual server and the bartender who also had to serve. However food was excellent. Even the bartender told us to not evaluate them by the service. The food was actually excellent though my mashed potatoes were cold but perhaps that’s because it sat while the one server was running around. Took 30 mins for our appetizer and 1 hour for our meal. Fortunately due to the close quarters we had good conversation from the couple at the table next to us.
Place was great. The food was great. The owner was a pleasure to talk to. We would definitely eat there again
Amazing food and charming bartender! Smoked trout and lobster ravioli were delicious!
Beyond great reviews, I had little to go on that would have set my expectations, so I suppose I can best describe my experience as "wonderfully distinct." My wife and I had brunch here, and though the food was very good and the cocktails anything but watered down, it was nothing traditional that shaped my opinion. Rather, what will always stick out in my memory about this place is the vibe...the incredibly relaxed vibe. My spinach-artichoke infused omelet was excellent, but I came away from the experience with an inside joke with our server and a new signature family-gathering shot (green tea), and I was not over-stimulated by a ton of surrounding activity or an implied rush to get us out of there to make way for the next wave of patrons.
