Earth at Hidden Pond
JOE SCHAFER, Executive Chef
Earth is simply beautiful, relaxing and has delicious food! What a special place.
Beautiful location with great gardens! Everyone enjoyed their meal. I think the only disappointment was with the s'mores dessert. They tried too hard to make it gourmet and the chocolate was chalky. There were also some bites that had the alcohol taste from lighting the s'more on fire. It needed more graham crackers, smooth chocolate, and the marshmalllows needed to have melted better.
I have never been more embarrassed to recommend a restaurant in Kennebunkport than to be subjected to the treatment my party and I received tonight at Earth. I have been there many times over the years as a Kennebunkport resident and it was always excellent. Today, I was hosting a party of 6 and coincidentally, a friend from another state was also hosting a party of 6 - when I found this out, I called the restaurant this afternoon, explained the situation, and asked if our tables could be close to one another - the very nice person I spoke to said they had both our parties situated on the "porch" and would try and accommodate that request, but not guaranteed. It was one of the couples 47th wedding anniversary and seemed like a nice addition to help them celebrate.
When I arrived with my party, the other party arriving a little earlier, I was subjected to the most rude acknowledgement of a guest with what could only be described as a lecture from the "manager". I have never experienced a more unprofessional or demeaning situation. A Kristin Walker, who said she was the manager, was obviously annoyed we had arrived(a group of folks aged in our 50's and 60's) and said we would not be permitted to talk to each other during our meal as a "courtesy to other guests". She said we had found a "loophole" in their system and were really a party of 12??? I was shocked by this rude reception, this untrue assumption and assured her we had been to restaurants before and knew how to behave. They then set one group up on the porch and the other group at the kitchen. Our waiter was tending bar and serving our table - food took over an hour to be served and then 2 of the 6 meals was inedible. Kristin Walker had made us feel so unwelcome I wondered if it was some type of retaliation. This "manager" should be fired. I was never so embarrassed with my guests. Don't waste your money until they get this management situation fixed.
Food was good, not great for the cost.
Place has fallen off precipitously from last few years. Not as good.
Terrific food great service in an unusual camp like location but 4 star meals and service. Make a reservation before it closes for the season
Every bite was amazing and a treasure.
Food too heavy, inaccurate menu descriptions
When you frequent a place that you so thoroughly enjoy, as I call Earth... “Heaven” in Earth, it is an amazing feeling when you bring your friends and the experience is exceptional due to the team - Ariel, Josh and the staff were wonderful !
Thank You for making our continued patronage special and appreciated Earth is my favorite place to dine.
Beautiful setting with outstanding service. Only setback was pizza which was tasteless and not enough sauce. Nice wine list and also cocktails. Off the beaten path but nice gem in the woods.
This used to be one of our favourite restaurants, but it has unfortunately gone downhill. Our waiter tried to constantly upsell us, the food was just okay, but the price was exorbitant. It has always been an expensive restaurant, but the food and service made it worthwhile. Not anymore. That will be our last visit.
Excellent choice for any occasion or weekend getaway. Dinning experience is comfortable, peaceful and welcoming. Food was excellent with many delicious options. We will be coming back to Earth in the future for sure.
Service slow, food mediocre plus, expensive
Food was enjoyed by 3 in our party. I had lobster pizza. No taste. Make it great or get it off the menu!
Business dinner with friends - such a lovely and comfortable space in which to share a meal. As before, service was spot on and menu offered a range of options. Each dish was prepared and presented correctly (and promptly consumed). Not an inexpensive dinner but good value nonetheless.
We enjoyed a delightful Birthday Dinner and as always Earth is a Special Place!
We enjoyed every minute of our time at Earth. Beautiful restaurant and setting , great food.
We can’t wait to go back., a truly special place.
This is one of my favorite places and one of the very best meals I’ve eaten in a long time. It was perfect for my girlfriends birthday celebration, and I’m extremely happy with how everything went. We will be back!
Magnificent. Get the cheeseburger. Best you’ll ever have. And the pea soup!
Had wonderful meal beautiful place waitress was spot on did awesome job..
Skip diner here just go for a drink. Food is average, very small portions. Wait staff is not well trained and flustered; Hostess stand is chaotic: those with reservations are asked to wait 15 minutes for a table meanwhile they sit same sized parties without a reservation immediately(?!) Eclectic drink menu and a modern/rustic ambience “in the woods of Maine” which is fun.
Fantastic, hands on owners who are very knowledgeable and eager to ensure a great time. Incredible food, beautiful but comfortable room, a can’t miss restaurant.
We went to Earth at Hidden pond for my father in laws Birthday - we were a group of 6. Our night started off slightly off because we were seated in the veranda covered area next to the door - waiters and guest kept going in and out literally every 2 minutes. It was a cool night and it was impossible to be comfortable with the constant temperature change. Additionally it was really disruptive to have someone walk by constantly. When we requested to get switched to another area the waitress said that if she had something available she would and walked away. There was a row of 3 free table not far from us that remained empty until we left at closing.
Service was a little slow , and the waitress kept forgetting to bring items we ordered ( wine , tea at the end)
Thankfully the food was EXCELLENT.
Despite the so so experience I would still recommend this restaurant because of the beautiful grounds and interior.
Honestly one of the best meal experiences we’ve ever had. The setting, ambiance, pace of the meal, service and food, especially the food, were all amazing. We were celebrating our 15th anniversary. Highly recommend you will not be disappointed.
This place is absolutely beautiful. It is so warm, cozy and inviting. The smell of the wood fire grill was an amazing touch. It was so well decorated, the outdoor patio area was awesome to have some drinks at also. This may be our new favorite spot!!
As always, a great experience. Really must try their Fiddleheads!
We ate in one of the two private potting sheds— it was intimate with rustic elegance. The restaurant is noisy because it’s so popular, so the shed was the perfect solution for a special 75th dinner celebration for my mom. Food and service were perfection. Highly recommend for a special occasion!!
Table not ready at reserved time. Kitchen got backed up so meal was an hour late. When it finally got to us it was borderline cold, indicating that the wait staff got backed up as well. They took one meal off the bill but we would rather of had a good meal/experience on our anniversary. Very disappointing.
The experience was amazing.
A favorite for this couple when we have something to celebrate. The staff are warm and helpful and create a tremendous experience.
Everything we ate was incredible. What a special place. We will be back if we are ever in the area again.
We have waited years for a special occasion and excuse to make our way to Earth and it exceeded our expectations! The grounds are beautiful, the hospitality was so warm and welcoming and the food was prepared to perfection. Thank you for such a wonderful evening, we cannot wait to come back!
I have been to Kennebunk many many times and have never tried Earth until now. Boy was I missing out. This restaurant is absolutely wonderful. From start to finish. The atmosphere is so cozy and warm. The food is delicious and my server Megan was awesome. Be sure to make this a definate stop on your next trip to Kennebunk.
We visit Earth at Hidden Pond at least once per summer, and this was our first trip in 2018. Usually we are overwhelmed by the food and service, but not last night. Not at all. After being seated, we were quickly brought drinking water, but then nothing. For about 15 minutes, we were completely ignored. Not the typical service we expect. When I finally asked someone, she pointed to a waiter that was helping the table next to us (they were seated after us) and said he was our server. I explained that he had not yet been to the table and we would like to order drinks and food. She quickly obliged by saying she could take our order. I believe she was not a server herself, but an assistant and was jumping in to make us happy. Her name was Arial and she was lovely and personable. When our appetizers arrived, they were "auctioned off" as no one knew who got what dish (there were only 3 of us at that table). Appetizers were delicious! The waiter, who we had not yet spoken with, stopped by the table just as my son was finishing his appetizer to ask "how our first few bites were". It was somewhat humorous. We then waited an unusually long time for our entrees. Again, the food was "auctioned off" and this time my meal (short ribs, lobster & scallops) was cold. I ate it anyway as I didn't want to wait for a new dish. My husband was facing the kitchen and said that the chefs and servers seemed very confused and there was a cluster of people standing by the kitchen window at all times. It was almost like a bad dress rehearsal for the upcoming season. Hope that Earth gets their act together for the rest of the summer. We have come to expect excellent service and last night was a disappointment.
This was me and my mans 4th time coming to Earth. We love it so much. We try to go twice a year.
We pulled up to a line of cars waiting at the vallet . Luckily the wait inside was pretty quick. We enjoyed some interesting cocktails. My gin cocktail was a bit heavy on the cucumber but not bad. There were no additions to the menu since they had basically just opened for the season. Two of us started with the salmon tartare which was so simple yet so flavorful. The roasted carrots as last year were very good. The pork belly was phenomenal. Two had the seafood stew which they both enjoyed but both thought it was a bit on the salty side. The doughnuts were back and can’t be missed. We love the atmosphere here, it’s very special.
Ate here about 4 years ago and it was just okay. Decided to try it again due to all of the great reviews and was very disappointed. Drinks were good and so were the appetizers. Main course was for all three of us came out luke warm and one was undercooked. They also forgot to bring out the side vegetable with dinner. They did right thing and removed the undercooked main and side vegetable from the bill. Regardless, it was still way over priced. There are lots of other great restaurants in the Kennebunks that have better food, service and aren’t overpriced.
Absolutely incredible! Such a beautiful spot and the food is out of the this world!
Our annual Mother’s Day supper, was wonderful as usual! Both Josh the bartender and Josh the waiter were exceptional and accommodating! Look forward to going back.
