Good food, good service, good friends- nice evening
Great first visit to Early Girl Eatery! I had the meatloaf, my daughter had the multigrain pancakes and my husband had the catfish- all delicious!
Not the great restaurant we remember from 15 years ago. Had to ask them to remove an item from the bill that we asked for but they never brought (or explained why). Open Table took our reservation but when we got there they said they did not take reservations. Charming location, just not up to the old standard when Rachel Ray "discovered" it. Could be again. Please try.
Poor vega choices and the vegetable sides were poorly cooked. Sent it back.
Great for kids!
Maybe dinner isn’t their strong suit. The meatloaf had too much oatmeal and not enough meat. The mashed potatoes were bland and needed milk. They were out of all beer except Bud and Bud Light on a Saturday night. I would not recommend this restaurant and I won’t be back.
Went to try dinner menu because of long lines during breakfast and lunch. It was a ghost town on Friday night. Ambience was plain and boring. Service was great, very friendly staff. We ordered the catfish and friend chicken. We both preferred the chicken, it was juicy and flavorful with perfect gravy on top. We had coleslaw and Mac and cheese as sides. Both were fantastic.
Great staff and great food. We’ll be there again next time we come through Asheville.
Aweful and embarrassed I took special friends there on vacation
Visited Early Girl while on vacation based on a local news hype. Very disappointed in atmospheres and general cleanliness of the restaurant. Although the food was okay, there is no compelling reason for a recommendation. We will not return.
One of my favorite, informal places...love having breakfast at dinnertime.
The cheese plate was a wonderful selection of cheese, fruit, nuts, and toast slices. The barbecue sandwich was dry and no extra sauce was provided. The meatloaf was great! The alcohol prices were reasonable. However, the decor was bland and boring.
When I first moved here, my husband and I went to Early Girl a couple of times a month. We loved it. The nightly veggie choices, especially. That option is gone. My chicken was all right but nothing to laud. I did have a fantastic Bloody Mary, but I won't be going back. I will try the new one on Merrimon though. And hope for a better plate.
Early Girl lived up to its reputation. A cute place with excellent food in a great location.
Super casual and very popular restaurant that often gets overlooked for dinner for more upscale/trendy places. We had a large family group and everyone loved their food.
Definitely worth going more than once.
This restaurant is a hidden gem for dinner: they are so packed for breakfast and lunch, but tourists tend not to come here for dinner. Perfect for before the theatre, Symphony for us Townies! Excited that they are opening up on north Merrimon.
Overall good experience. They burned the sausage patties into charcoal. It the fried chicken and the biscuit French toast were amazing.
There was a very loud birthday party for a large group. Love the place for breakfast, but won’t be back for dinner.
We have eaten at Early Girl under prior ownership and it is like we walked into a totally different restaurant. The food choices were standard and poorly executed. My husband's fries were cold and my hash brown potatoes were cold, as well. I ordered a Black Bean omelet and the beans greatly overwhelmed the amount of egg I had, were cold, and had no flavor. They tasted like they had just been taken straight out of a can. We were so looking forward to eating at Early Girl again, and it was not the same place at all. We were so disappointed. Asheville has a lot of great choices in restaurants and we would not have chosen Early Girl if we had know that the quality had gone down so drastically.
Enjoyed a really good early dinner while in town for a sports tournament. With our Open Table reservation, our party of six arrived and had no trouble being seated right away. We enjoyed the fresh take on comfort foods. (Side note to anyone with a sensitive palate: Be sure to check with your server about the level of spice in the dish. Everything is flavorful but may be too much for some.) We especially liked checking out the customer artwork on the walk into the dining area, and the fact that the space was roomy, tables spaced nicely, and you didn’t feel packed in like sardines.
Excellent food and service. We always try to get at least one meal from here every time we come to or pass through Asheville.
Breakfast has always been a home run here, but this time for dinner was very disappointing. Dinner wasn't hot enough to melt a pat of butter, the food lacked that POP!! I've come to expect here.
Their food definitely lived up to the hype! The pimento mac and cheese was amazing!!!!
fried chicken collards mac&cheese and corn bread was sooooo good
First time here and I was pretty happy with everything. Loved the side selections. The ginger coleslaw & greens were excellent. Meatloaf was delicious but could have been served warmer. It was a little on the cold side. Overall it was a great dinner!
I love earl Girl. The staff is always so nice and the food is amazing! My favorites are their salads, but everything on the menu is so good. I make a point of stopping in every time I am in town .
Food was OK, service was extremely slow and non-attentive.
We were seated only 5 minutes past our reservation time. Service was a little slow, having to remind the waitress about drinks. Food was not up to previous visit and they were out of a lot of stuff. Very noisy due to bad acoustics.
We picked Early Girl because of the mix of dietary requirements in our group , 4 were vegan. Overall the food was ok, nothing outstanding unfortunately but everyone found something to eat and did not leave hungry. The Tempe was bland as was the grilled chicken
Food and service were great, we’ll be back
We prefer Early Girl for breakfast or lunch. Although the dinner was tasty, it was almost a 'quick bite'
Food was good and waitress was sweet and attentive, but lighting is horrible at night. Feels like I’m in the back kitchen...and also please don’t serve red wine in a champagne glass. Thanks!
This was a second date before the concert. The service was prompt, the food good, the staff friendly and we were put in a quiet corner so we were able to have conversation. Start of a enjoyable evening.
I had the duck breast for a very reasonable price and my wife had a goat cheese omelette for dinner the first night we arrived in town. Both meals we very good service was top notch. We had a delicious finish with the coconut cake and coffee.
Love this restaurant! Great food. Unusual dishes. Excellent service. Reasonably priced.
The menu is geared mainly towards breakfast/lunch. We had a business meal with several colleagues and were generally unimpressed. If you’re looking for a quick, causal bite to eat, Early Girl is probably okay. If you’re looking for true Southern cuisine, Asheville has much more to offer.
Good food. Get something to put the jam on! Not too crowded or loud.
Server was a little slow but food was good as it always is, however didn’t like that they didn’t have any dinner special on the board but always a staple when coming to Asheville or nearby
Always excellent! Thank you for offering such delicious vegetarian options!
I would recommend Early Girl with some reservation only because I’ve had better experiences in the past and it’s a value for Asheville.
This experience, however, was abysmal! We were seated for 10 minutes with no attention from the server, in a restaurant with only 8 full tables. We eventually asked the bus boy to take our order. He agreed that our server was awful. Once she did pay us attention, she came to the table multiple times without clearing our plates. She was spending more time sitting down at a table chatting to her mom.
Foodwise, I enjoyed my egg scramble. The biscuits are okay - much better to be had elsewhere in Asheville.
