Earls Kitchen + Bar - Yaletown - Vancouver Ratings and Reviews
Service excellent. We shared a calamari appetizer - nothing special and no better or worse than you can get in any other restaurant. My partner had the classic rib rack which he loved. I had the relatively new mussels entree. The presentation of the mussel dish, in an enamel pot atop a wooden board adorned with delicious toast, although striking, made it an entirely impractical dish to consume. The pot, about 15-20 cm high by about 18 cm diameter was only about 30% filled with the mussels and accompanying sauce. The quantity was sufficient but it was far too awkward to fish out the mussels from the depths of the container and detach them from their shells, especially since the only cutlery provided was knife, fork and a long ladle. I had to request a regular spoon to help make it easier. Although the presentation looks pretty good and unique, the mussels should just have been served, as they normally are, in a wide and shallow soup plate; that way they would have been easier to consume. Apart from the saltiness of the dish, I would not order this dish again, just because of how awkward it was to eat!
My partner had just water and I had a Parallel 49 draught lager which, for a craft brewery, was quite uninspiring.
The restaurant is too noisy for us at our ages but we did ask to be seated in a quiet area which went some way to mitigating the ambient noise coming from patrons and several TVs which were showing excerpts from the winter Olympic games.
A great spot for brunch, I'm really glad they added a brunch menu! We sat in their lounge which was quite comfortable. Our server was cheery and attentive too, which was nice. The music was a little loud for a nearly empty restaurant early Sunday morning. We mentioned this to our server and she gladly turned it down , which was greatly appreciated.
Their $8 brunch before noon is an awesome deal, we will definitely be back again!
This was everyday dining with friends occasion. While I included in my booking a note on preferred patio seating that was not acknowledged by the restaurant. But we managed to get patio table eventually. Food was ok; happy hour menu was satisfying to my friends. I have ordered a la carte and waited for that quite a bit. I was happy that I could veganized that one item on the menu (not so often possible in other places). Waiter that served us was polite but not very attentive. At the end he totally overheard request for the food to be wrapped up for take away and cleaned table into the remaining dish.
Overall I'd still recommend this location for casual dining and patio seating.
We go almost every weekend. The hosts are awful usually. We loved one waitress but today I waved both arms for 15 minutes and couldn't get anyone's attention. The food is usually great but today the chorizo mushroom has had 2 pieces of chorizo smaller than a dime and same with the mushrooms. Every time we go there we encounter a problem with the hostess or service or food. We are going to another restaurant next time. It's too bad since I love the happy hour Baja fish tacos.
Very disappointed with my chicken Caesar salad. No real dressing and definitely no garlic. The chicken was tender but the actual salad was a disappointment. Also they used to give you Olive oil and balsamic vinegar to dip the thick piece of bread in. I had to ask for that. Who would want to eat that huge, thick piece of bread without that! BUT... my husband ordered the half order of ribs and chicken and it was fabulous and such a huge portion! It came with delicious potato salad and coleslaw. I sampled the melt in your mouth ribs and the delicious tender Cajun chicken. That is what I would order the next time! Highly recommend it! Otherwise it is quite a nice place out on the patio. Warning...the huge blue garbage truck emptied the bins right outside where everyone is eating. Just don't look! Too bad that happens, but no big deal.
Would be great to supplement brunch menu items with some toast + jam and definitely, absolutely replace the boxed juices with freshly squeezed citrus juice. After all, this is Earl's (known for its great care for fresh ingredients). Boxed juice simply doesn't fit the brand.
