E&O Kitchen and Bar Ratings and Reviews
I thought I had seen it all until I went to E&O and tried some of their specialty cocktails. Wow. Three ounces of sickenly sweet syrup with virtually zero alcohol. And only $12 - $13 each. I would have complained to the waitress, but it was so loud inside the restaurant that she wouldn't have heard me. We had to point to what we wanted on the menu to order our food due to the cacophony. The food we ate was tasty, but most of their choices are quite unhealthy. I don't know why they are so busy...must be tourists and people on expense accounts.
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. I had the prawn satay and the silky chocolate cake for dessert. The prawn satay was an interesting twist to the typical satays I've had before and the cake was sinfully indulgent, smooth and not too sweet, perfect with a cup of black coffee. Service was great from the moment I stepped. Great hostess, great waiter. Everything was prompt, professional and friendly. Top marks all around.
The service was bad. Super slow. We were never checked on to see if anything was needed. Had to flag waiter down for more drinks. And on that topic, drinks were tasty, but I question if they even contained alcohol. At $12 a crack complete ripoff. Food was ok, nothing remarkable.
So this was a weird experience. When I showed up for my reservation, I was told to wait 10 minutes because the table was not ready (although I could see about 3 to 4 tables empty, but well, maybe they had other reservations for it). I chose to sit at the bar since I was hungry. Placed my order, got some water and then realized that the seat offered to me was directly in front of the door so the cold draft coming in was very uncomfortable. I asked my server at the bar if he was ok if I moved to a table instead, and he was totally ok with it. When I asked the hostess, she says "I gave your table away (this was within the 10 minutes she had initially stipulated)." I look around and there are at least 9 tables I can see empty right away. I point them out and say "Is there really no other place you can put me?" Finally, she sits me at a 'Community Table' VERY RELUCTANTLY. As soon as I sat, my server brought me my order and right away, the hostess brought me my check. I was taken aback and said, "You want me to pay now? Before I eat?" She says, "Well, if you'd like to, sure. It's ready for you when you want."
Keep in mind, my food has just been put in front of me, and she is handing me my check on top of that. I told her this was very unconventional, is that how they do it with all their customers.. and she says, no, I'll bring it back in a bit and leaves.
After this, I was not looked at, given water, asked for dessert, or anything. I kept waiting for water and finally waved someone down after a few minutes of holding my hand out.
Very disappoint service. Hostess like these should not be in the service industry.
The food wasn’t nearly as good as it was during the 4 or 5 time we’ve been there before. Example: calamari was outstanding before, fair this time. Same with the corn fritters. Loved them before, edible only now. I fear they may have changed chefs. Service was fine - if anything, too fast. Love the location.
This is my favorite restaurant in San Francisco. We don't get here very often because we live in the Santa Cruz Mountains these days. I love the small plates, especially the mushroom sate, tuna tartare, squash dumplings, and corn fritters. It's a great place for sharing with friends. The cocktails are very good too.
We have dined at E&O since the original E&O Trading opened. The Asian fusion here is some of the best in town under chef Sharon Nahm. Quality is high and service is welcoming/professional. We love chef Nahm's deft touch with balanced seasonings; she never overworks a dish with excessive garnishes and flourishes as so many sloppy current chefs do. The Ahi (poke style) and the Chicken Lettuce Cups are lovely examples of what these two dishes should be when properly executed. Don't miss dessert, either; creative and elegant endings to a fine meal. E&O is celebrating its 20th yr since reopening; well deserved congratulations to them for consistently good food and service!
I come here often at the bar. And I like it and bring my group for happy hours. My first dining experience wasn’t so good. We asked to be seated at the booth but got turned down. When there are a lot of booth available and we’re told it’s reserved but remained available to the duration of our stay.
The food was good but nothing special.
We were repeat diners. So the matching stars reflect that. The poor ratings were for the service. We arrived at exactly 7:25 & checked in with the hostess, if we could grab our 7:45 reserved table. She said "No, since we were early & we could hit the bar." We left & headed to another comparable spot that we dine at. We were seated right away...no reservation at all. We may not return to E & O in the future.
Come here for lunch during a shopping outing with girlfriend. Made reservation, maybe good idea as quite crowded during lunch hours. Ordered the katsu chicken sandwich and the spicy pork sandwich. the spicy pork sandwich as a bit oily but tasty. Good and prompt service. Would come again if in the area.
Good ambience. The waitress was very dry did not smile. But overall was nice. Service was good, food was difderent but tasty. It was a nice stop while out shopping. They ram our of the pork sandwhich! That is the reason I wanted to eat there... cocktail was good. The vodka Thai basil...
For the restaurant, the food and waiter was fantastic! I would suggest putting some cheaper wines (or changing less for the ones you have) on the menu. For OpenTable I would change from $$ to $$$. We loved it. I took 9 people there and it we had a fantastic table. We will be back again.
A fun place with clever dishes. The corn fritters were delicious but way too greasy. The special Thia style calamari was wonderful although we felt it was a bit stingy on the calamari. The panir naan was sensational. Service was friendly but not smothering. Nice atmosphere and good people watching!
