I have loved Dyafa in the past. This time, not. The service was dreadful: the wine didn't come, despite repeated requests, until all but one of the appetizers had been eaten. We had to request again, the remaining appetizer. But what was brought was a repeat of the first one. The food was ok, although not of its previous deliciousness.
They seated three of us on a table size for two. The dishes didn’t even fit on the table. The waitress told us that the food comes out slowly and not all at once. That’s not what happened.
At one point they took away one of the dishes to make space that we hadn’t finished eating !
The food was mediocre at best. Burnt manaeesh. Way too many fried pita pieces in the fatoosh.
Overall an unpleasant experience. We are definitely never going back there again. And would recommend our friends to not go there too.
Terribly slow service at dinner. I've been here for lunch several times and really liked it. There's a totally different menu at dinner. Suggest you try lunch first
Love! Came for a Saturday night dinner. Excellent food and service.
Beautiful good, gracious service
I miss the sandwiches made with the flatbread. Don’t like the pita bread. Something changed and in don’t like it. Also I don’t like the self-service at lunch time
Arrived early and was heartily greeted by hostess and bartender. They both helped me through a menu of foods I was not too familiar with. My guest and I both loved our selections which were splendid. Will definitely return !
Excellent, friendly place with delicious food and great service.
Ugh, this place was amazing! The desserts were good, but I felt like they fell a little flat after all the amazing food.
Restaurant wad empty, yet we were seated right by the bathrooms. Server seemed to want to rush us. Food was great. Lamb shank was delicious.
Tasty food, beautiful setting. Creative menu.
The food was delicious and the setting was lovely. We ordered way too much. The only thing that didn’t thrill us was the salad.
The food was outstanding!!!! Only down fall of the evening was that we order drinks that didn’t come until we we almost finished with dinner!! That was definitely a bummer but they did comp us a dessert for the table as they recognized that it was lame how slow the bar was. Definitely going back!!
Excellent and interesting food. It would be better if you could order from your table rather than going to the counter. Appetizer plate (a variety of humus and egg plant) with great home made pita bread excellent.
Yum! Delicious middle Eastern food. Lots of breads and dipping, stewed meats fabulous!
Great food. Great space. Great service. Skip dessert.
Delightful, tasty, creative middle eastern fusion foods. Wonderful flavors and tastes in the sauces. Overall a very memorable dining experience.
Wonderful lunch -- great for kids and adults! Great flavors -- loved the Falafel wrap, which was flavored with fennel, Fattoush salad with squash, Beet salad, and mezes selection of dips. Fabulous, fluffy and warm Pita bread. Suggestion -- one pita for the mezes plate is not enough -- feels skimpy/nickel & diming that we had to pay for 4 orders of bread for 5 adults and 2 kids! But the menu is great, and we liked the casual atmosphere.
One of the tastiest restaurants in the Bay. I love coming here - the food is tasty, the drinks are stiff, and the staff are friendly. Be prepared to spend a fair bit for a normal-sized dinner, though.
Food and ambience were excellent, but service was not.
The food is excellent, and they were kind enough to put all meat and dairy in ingredients on the side so that I could share with my two dinner companions - I’m vegan, but they are not. The waitress gave us a very good overview of the menu (we told her it was our first visit), and she gave good recommendations on our food choices. It was a wonderful dining experience!
A very memorable evening with great atmosphere, impeccable service and delicious food. And the music!! Perfect. Can't wait to return.
The food was delicious but the service was a bit slow. Also, it was my husband’s birthday and I asked for a birthday dessert/candle in the Opentable notes. Apparently no one read it because we just ended up with a regular dessert after I ordered it. I love the idea of being able to arrange these surprises in advance but the execution didn’t work.
Friend get together,
Lovely place good food and great cocktails
First time there. Everything was perfect, including the delivery to our table of flowers that I ordered that day from a local florist. We will definitely be going back.
Excellent but does not need to be this expensive
Good food. Pita sandwiches were a big meal for lunch. Did not need anything else. Sat outside, nice location.
We came here a month ago before they updated their menu with the new chef.
It was a bit disappointing because we felt the menu and value went down. The fried rock cod was the biggest disappointment. It was 2 pieces of fried fish for $35.
We also ordered 5 different cocktails and only 1 really stood one.
Everyone at the table loved the chicken confit. It was really special
For exotic flavors and a change of pace. Heavy on the garlic in all of the dishes, so keep that in mind.
Amazing foods, very welcoming staff. Would definitely go back.
We have been there numerous times and the services gets better each time. Some of the dishes have been tweaked so it keeps it exciting, but I do prefer the whole fish vs the fried with the fennel. My favorite is the muskhan !
Loved the food. It was great value for trying new Mediterranean food. unfortunately one of our entrees arrive about 15 min after the rest of the food and we were full. That was the only mishap.
Although I enjoyed the muhummara, the breads and the salad, the main courses were not so good. The chicken was under-done, the lamb shank rather tasteless, and the eggplant dish, although tasty, was barely warm. The dessert was good, but I thought the restaurant was overpriced for its value. I was especially disappointed that a restaurant serving Middle Eastern food didn’t offer authentic mint tea, but only bag tea.
Can’t wait to return.
My boyfriend and I went to Dyafa with some visiting family members and it was the best choice! We were able to try almost all of the small hot and cold plates and not one disappointed. Drinks were unique and delicious - even some wines you rarely see. Dessert is a must! We will definitely be back.
Had an incredible dinner with several dishes my wife and I had never had before. The wine list was great and I enjoyed a few glasses of the Planeta Frappato.... a wine I had never had but will be looking for in the future!
I have been here a few times for both lunch and dinner. Usually, I am in love with everything. Arrived to find out that lunch you have to order at a counter, take a number and just grab any open seat. Not sure why I needed a reservation since it didn't matter when we came. The Mezze was fine but the Fattoush salad was wilted and there were sprouts and arugula in it. True Fattoush salad has either of these ingredients.
The service was just okay. I am hoping that this is not a sign that the restaurant is not doing well and that it might close because Oakland needs some good places to eat.
Googled Michelin-starred restaurants in the East Bay &
Dyafa was listed. Not quite sure how. Compared to other Michelin-starred restaurants we’ve visited (Commis, French Laundry, Chez Panisse), this was truly puzzling
Would we return? Very iffy
