Established in 1983, our goal has always been to serve great food in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Our portions are generous, our ingredients are the finest and we want everyone who walks in the door to become a regular customer!
Lynne is fantastic!
Hands-down our favorite spot in the entire Charlottesville area. We love Duners for all of our special occasions, and sometimes just a fun night out with friends. When they have Osso Buco on the menu I always get it. It rivals my favorite Osso Buco ever (@Felidia’s in in NYC.) The menu is extensive but every single dish comes out amazing—can’t imagine how they do it, but we’re glad they do!
We went here for a business dinner for nine people. The appetizers were okay, but not great; the main dishes were excellent. The only criticism is that the main dining room is extremely noisy, making conversation a real challenge.
Went to Duners on the recommendation of a friend. Glad we did. Best meal we had while visiting Charlottesville. Staff/service were great as well.
Chef Laura makes fantastic dishes, well balanced and delicious. The service is great. Only drawback is that it gets loud (all tables are full). Definitely recommend!
Recommended by a business associate. Had a 5:30 pm reservation and the restaurant quickly began to fill. Décor was mainly white, i.e. ceiling, walls, tablecloths, etc. and dated. As more people arrived, it became harder to talk as the noise level increased. My husband ordered the beef filet and I had the salmon. Both were hot and tender but the beef lacked taste; even with the demi-glaze, it had no seasoning. The menu stated that the beef was served with asparagus but it was not served with the meal. Service was friendly and not rushed. Would I recommend to a friend, maybe. But for the price, I was expecting more.
Best food in Charlottesville—bar none!
Duner's is one of the best restaurants in Charlottesville - which IS saying something. Highly recommend.
Have visited here numerous times. Always excellent. Superior menu selection with unique dishes not found elsewhere. Nice wine list. Husband had veal scallopini which he declared outstanding. I had a wonderful pasta dish with shrimp, tomatoes, squash, bacon (could have done with a little less bacon - rather overwhelmed the flavors of the other ingredients.) Highly recommend.
In our opinion, the best food in Charlottesville!
My noise level and ambience ratings aside, you owe it to yourself to eat at Duner’s!! You WILL be back. I live in Alabama but am familiar with the Charlottesville area because the Army JAG School is on the UVA campus, and since I am retired from the JAG Corps I had many occasions to visit Charlottesville. Now, if I get within say 50 miles of Charlottesville, I will find a way to dine at Duner’s!! I dare you to eat there and not go back again!!
We always enjoy the vegetarian option and the service is excellent.
Good and service are always very good. If they could just do something to improve the acoustics and make it less noisy, it would be a huge improvement!
We go to Duner's on a regular basis. On this particular visit (Sunday night) the service was very slow (we were told that the kitchen was backed up) and my order of soft-shelled crabs was missing a leg. Both were unusual based on our extensive experience with Duner's.
Great place- go every time I get to Charlottesville - good food- great menu- reasonable price
Good food and service is always great for us. We have been going to Duners for years now and we have never had a bad meal!!!! We drive from Lynchburg! An a hour and 20 minutes to Duners. The only issue is the noise level !
This has been a wonderful restaurant for years. I LOVE it. Thank you Bob.
I have always enjoyed dinning at Duners. As of yet, I have not been disappointed with your culinary expertise.
I have a question about a chef and his wife that had left your restaurant and went to Three Knotch Grill.
Did they by chance go back to you?
Very loud - impossible to hear anything. No matter where you sit it’s just plain noisy. Not enjoyable. I had the asparagus soup - lacked flavor. Gnocchi was OK but it’s generally expensive for what you get in my experience. My husband had a veal scallopini which comes with a salad to start. And then half of his entree plate was another salad - more leafy greens piled up. Instead of another side dish or more main course. Not a great value. Service was exceptional and fresh bread very good.
One of my very favorite restaurants. The mussels are always fabulous!
A favorite of ours for 25 years Duner's never disappoints.
Duner’s never disappoints! The food and service were terrific.
We went for our 39th wedding anniversary. It was amazing. Definitely will be going back. The food and atmosphere were both amazing
Grand, as always! Duners is a treasured landmark and one of Charlottesville's best restaurants!
Interesting menu, nothing too adventurous but good. Could use more seafood items.
Good, not great wine list, fairly priced and diverse.
Great appetizers and desserts.
We had a lovely weeknight dinner here. We were in town on vacation and this was just down the street from the Boar's Head Inn. We enjoyed the salads, and the seafood entrees -- I had halibut that was roasted nicely with great brussel sprouts and spinach side veggie. Very interesting carrot based sauce for the fish. Yum. We were too full for dessert. Good wine list as well and not too pricey.
Excellent food as always---the soft-shell crabs never disappoint! And the entire wait staff are welcoming and attentive. Duners remains a favorite.
One of the best meals my daughter and I have had in a long time. Service phenomenal.
Booked based on menu and reviews. Was a special occasion tables were spaced to close and the dish I was looking forward to having was awful. Highest corkage fee in the state. Would not recommend.
Food was great as usual, especially the soft shell crabs with corn pancakes. Good drinks, wine, and service from Becky. Our group enjoyed the lively atmosphere and maybe contributed to it too.
The service is friendly and attentive. The food is fresh and locally sourced. I had the soft shelled crabs. They were perfectly cooked. It was an enjoyable evening out overall.
It was a noisy night, even early when we arrived. Hard to hear at one's own table. The crab cakes were quite good. The veal scallopini was ordinary. But we've been many times and will certainly go again.
Everything was delicious! It was a delightful meal.
Everything is absolutely exquisite! We love the quality of food served at Duner's. The only input for improvement is that the water has an unusual taste to it. Maybe check that out.
Thank you, i will be returning again and again.
Fantastic as usual. Thanks for staying consistently great.
Excellent meal prepared wonderfully; we had a lovely evening
Fantastic restaurant with fantastic service. One of the best restaurants in Virginia!
This was our first time eating at Duner's. The service was great and food was well presented and delicious. I had veal scallopini and my husband had the pork chop with fig sauce. We loved the quiet, relaxing music. The only thing I would like to see is more comfortable seating - we had a wooden booth with no cushions - not the most comfortable seating. We will definitely go back though!
Always great. Halibut was delicious and carrot side inventive. Thanks
Overall, I was rather disappointed in this restaurant. After reading the positive reviews, I had higher hopes for this place. The ambience was not pleasant, with peeling wallpaper, inexpensive furniture, and moderate to high noise level. I would describe the food as average and not up to par with other quality restaurants in the area with similar price point.
