Established in 1983, our goal has always been to serve great food in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Our portions are generous, our ingredients are the finest and we want everyone who walks in the door to become a regular customer!
The food is simply not wroth the exorbitant prices. However, the waitstaff were great to us.
Very fine food and great service as usual at a very fair price. The ambiance and physical surround could use some work; it’s crowded and the decor is tired. But, hey! You don’t eat atmosphere.
Without question, the highest quality restaurant west of Charlottesville. Service was cheerful and very professional. As usual, the food was divine.
I tend to stay away because it’s always got a loud buzz from all the conversations going on....they need to somehow break up the rooms to deflect noise pollution.
BUT....the food is awesome!!! I had fried oysters and the sesame tube entree’. Both were mouth watering. My wife had a salmon and beet chèvre salad and the eggplant (slightly undercooked). Again, both excellent. Toss in bread and a dinner salad and it was an overall A+ dining experience.
Excellent service and meal. Never had anything but a wonderful time and meal at Duners.
Love this place so much but had forgotten how LOUD it is. That’s the only negative. Food and service were excellent.
The pork chop was amazing. We had been here years ago, when the food seemed average and overpriced. Still pricy, but very good quality. The flourless chocolate cake was also excellent, as was the local wine and decaf coffee. The menu tends to be a bit heavy, not a lot of lighter fare options, so arrive hungry. Only a few gluten free items, if that is a consideration, as it is for me. A pleasant dining experience, much improved over the years.
The rack of lamb was good but too undercooked (requested medium, they were rare, too rare), one person had the pork chop and commented it was the best she'd ever had. My wife's filet mignon (tenderloin) was perfectly cooked and she loved the scalloped potatoes. The oyster appetizer was as usual great but this time was even better than before.
Always an excellent experience!!!
as usual the food was wonderful! always love the warm bread and butter at the beginning. So glad you all are taking reservations!
We are loyal customers at Duners which has excellent food and service.
However, the owner REALLY needs to address the noise level. The bar
in middle of main dining area creates a very loud ambiance for those
who wish to dine leisurely. It is quite annoying especially after 8:30 pm.
There should be some ceiling tiles added or some system to regulate the
noise. We hesitate to recommend this restaurant to certain friends who cannot
stand noisy restaurants. Too bad!
Another outstanding meal at Duners! Appetizers and entrees were delicious.
INCREDIBLE!! Food is the best you will find in and around the Charlottesville area!
Amazing food and service
The restaurant was very busy for a Sunday night but the service was good. The food was outstanding. Our appetizers were the calamari and mussels in white wine sauce. Entrees were duck and scallops which were excellent, cooked to perfection, highly recommended. Duck came on a bed of Risotto, a little too heavy on the cheese. This is by far the best restaurant on the west side of Charlottesville.
It is our neighborhood restaurant and we love it! The food is very good and dependable. We have been going for 22 years!
Great food and a lot of choices
Outstanding as usual. Great food, great service. Always a pleasure.
As always, Duners exceeded expectations. If we can’t get a booth, the side room is our preference because it is quieter than the main room/ bar area. We always see folks we know.
Andrea’s rockfish was perfecto as was my steak. I had a doggy bag steak lunch on Sunday. Beats grilled cheese sandwich. We are non-drinkers so I try to grease the palm of our main server. I usually notice that some cash fell out of her pocket so I’m just returning what was rightfully hers. I then usually tip in the 27 to 35 % amount so the staff gets a decent cut. If I don’t give money to servers/staff I will piddle it away on something else I really don’t enjoy. We had our fiftieth anniversary meal with you last year and our fifty-first this year and try to darken your door at least monthly or whenever friends from out of town want a free meal. I think we haven’t missed a January 4th with you in at least thirty-five years unless it falls on a “closed” day then we go on the third or fifth. We have a framed menu from last year. I am an Ivy native and remember when the Pugh family had a burger joint there.
LONG LIVE DUNERS !!
The food was excellent. The service was OK, but not for the price of the meal. The main dining room can be a bit loud at the peak times.
We have always enjoyed Duners for the food and the service.
Absolutely loved everything about our experience at Duners. I told my husband we can never eat at a restaurant other than Duners after this meal!!!
Service was rushed, making difficult to enjoy the meal. Food was good, but below normal. Overall, fine for NYE.
Ordinarily I don't go for the pris fixed menus, but the New Year's Eve menu looked interesting. Made reservations, table was ready when we arrived and our meal was absolutely delicious! The chef/owner is VERY creative and she prepared two of the best meals my wife and I have had in Charlottesville maybe ever! Worth every penny! We will return soon to enjoy their regular menu! Duner's is now our "go-to" place for special occasions...or any time, for that matter!
The absolute best restaurant in the Charlottesville-area!
Overall, great food.... appetizer portions are very large - wish we had shared... scallops and beets were excellent. It was bit noisy, but a fun atmosphere. Beverage glasses and wine carafe were dull and cloudy, making them look like they weren’t the cleanest. They should be sparkling. Beef brisket was pretty fatty... should trim if finished with a red wine sauce... it was hard to see to trim yourself. The tables are very dimly lit. Too bright is worse, though...
Delicious food, excellent service without being too intrusive. The restaurant was crowded initially, so the noise level was higher than we prefer. They were out of some of the appetizers & entrees, but there were still plenty of delicious options. We will definitely return here and recommend Duner's as a great dining experience in Charlottesville.
Always a great experience! I been going there since 1987 and never disappointed
Never disappointed with the food. Service almost always quite good. We bring out of town friends since we know there is such a wide variety on the menu and it is dependably quite good.
My wife and I, frequent clients, took a friend to Duners after raving about the food. Each of us was disappointed. Calamari was tasteless and bland; crab cakes “didn’t tase like good crab” according to guest; and my chicken was deep-fried to point of blackness and hard to even bite into. Chef must have been on holiday. Not a pleasant experience.
Best restaurant in the Charlottesville/Crozet area. Homemade bread, terrific duck dumplings and roast duck. They make there own delicious desserts. Ambiance is low-key. Only criticism is the noise level.
The food was fantastic and the service was great. We loved every minute and every bite!
Always a good meal!!
Always excellent! We are so impressed at the high levels of food and service.
Wonderful menu, great service and very delicious food.
The food at Duners is truly outstanding -- excellent preparation and presentation.
Outstanding as always; all five of our dishes were wonderful! Duner’s is a real dining institution in the region
We had early reservations and I highly recommend you do so. The restaurant filled up quickly!
We both had the trout and it was fabulous! The waitress was engaging and the overall service impeccable!
We highly recommend Dumers to any who visit Charlottesville.
They never disappoint. Tasty, kind service, nice atmosphere and the best fried oysters in the world.
Wonderful experience! Amazing food, great ambiance and thoughtful service!
