Limited brunch menu but with some good items.
With corona virus, the place was quite deserted.
Love this classic Seattle dining spot. The food and cocktails are very good, and the ambiance is warm and "old Seattle". The Dunbar Room is located in/adjacent to the historic Hotel Sorrento, and is one of the amenities that keeps me coming back to the Sorrento on my frequent trips to the city.
Only have been to jazz brunch on Sunday but the vibe was great! My hubs and I had the avocado toast and both enjoyed it. Bottomless mimosas and Bloody Marys were good.
Thank you so much for taking time to give us your honest opinion. So glad you all had a good time and hope to see you soon. Sincerely, Omendra
Went for a Jazz brunch- service was slow and poor even though it was a slow day. The music wasn’t quite jazz and the setup was quite stuffy. The food was okay but not outstanding. The building itself is beautiful but strange setup, I would like to give it a second chance as they seem to have a bunch of fun events.
Perfect experience Overall. My server did a great job and was very friendly.
The Fireside Room is very comfortable and has a sort of old world charm, with natural woods and ambient lighting. If there is a musical or speaking performance then it becomes a highlight of the evening. Get there before 6 and you can order off the Happy Hour menu...
Hi, Thank you so much for your kind words and glad to hear that you had a great time. Hope to see you soon. Sincerely, Omendra
Really fantastic service and a warm, inviting ambience. I will return!
Dear guest, Thank you for your kind words and a great rating of our restaurant. We will continue to work hard to earn your trust and business. Hope you see you soon. Sincerely, Omendra
Beautiful start to the day, with a live Sunday Jazz performance. Enjoyed the service and breakfast. Had to call a couple of times since I was running late. A great way to break out of the routine of daily life, catching up with others or a date. Charming and great ambiance.
Jazz brunch on Sunday. It was pretty cool.
Great place for brunch. Unfortunately the music was way too loud. Otherwise, wonderful atmosphere.
The sandwiches were not the same size as this was a shared lunch. Pastry items were excellent.
Great ambiance and service. Unique setting. Elegant.
The food and service were overpriced. The Sorrento is always beautiful and was very tastefully decked out for the holidays.
First we sat down to a table that was set with used butter and no jam. The tea was really good and that was almost the only thing that was. The tiers of food was really terrible. We got 4 things of the salmon spread instead of 2 salmon and 2 pimento chees. The salmon spread was inedible, the person with me described it as “swamp fish”. The sandwiches were ridiculously inconsistent; amount of filling in each, size of the slices of bread (too thick and dry), size of the sandwiches. Most of the desserts tasted like refrigerator. The only things good for the food was the cornichons and one single dessert. Once we got our tier of food the server didn’t check on us again until we had been waiting awhile for the check. She never came and asked us if we wanted more water for the tea or if we needed anything else. We paid $140+ for this tea and had a terrible experience.
This was overall a very poor experience except for the great atmosphere. The Christmas buffet was $110 per person plus mandatory 20% tip. For this amount I would have expected great service and great food. But instead...they ran out of salmon and then ran out of roast beef. The turkey was over salted and they had run out of cranberry sauce! There were very few servers and they had a lackadaisical attitude and one was sipping coffee while serving! Yuck! The food line was not kept clean, it was filthy. The deserts were pathetic, small 1 inch squares of pies. One nut roll I tasted was rancid. At checkin the hostess wanted to seat my elderly dad at a coffee table saying that all the higher tables were full, yet during our entire dinner 5 or 6 tables near us sat empty. For such a price and such a beautiful hotel I expected much more. It was a sad and pathetic experience and I will not return fir Christmas dinner there again.
Advertised as open Christmas Day. Did not state it was a buffet. Expected a limited menu but not that. Some of the choices were excellent, most so so. Not what we expected at all. Poor vale to price ratio.
The Christmas feast was nice but the buffet should have been better lit and there should have been display tags describing each item. Also there seemed to be a regular shortage of plates, butter, coffee etc. For $110 per person these details don't seem unreasonable to expect. Otherwise the staff was super friendly and the ambiance was quite pleasant.
What a disappointing holiday dinner. For a buffet that is charging $110 per person I had expected better quality food and refilling of items if they ran out. The food was uninspiring and overcooked for the most part. The steelhead trout came out undercooked. I appreciate that serving a meal on Christmas Day is a challenge which is why many places are closed. The Dunbar Room would have been better of closing than serving this overpriced and disappointing meal. I felt bad for the staff that were very pleasant but were trying to deal with short staff, food issues and a general level of disorganization.
Horrible Christmas Feast. Holiday altered and a number of advertised items were not available including the Herb Roasted Turkey, au gratin dish and desserts. Service staff friendly but totally inattentive. Plus a few were eating food from the buffet!
Pedestrian food and all for only $110 per person before tax and non-negotiable 20% gratuity. Bill was $288!!!!!
We did contact the manager but received no response.
Will not return to Hotel Sorrento despite the lovely historic setting.
Such a beautiful experience for Christmas Eve lupper- the ambience, front row seating by the gorgeous fireplace, impeccable service- the whole scene like a Christmas movie . It would have been a five star experience if the buffet had been a bit larger for the price and if the dessert selection had been more upscale to fit the buffet class ( just a few tiny pastries)- also some live music would have been lovely....
The perfect spot for Xmas Eve buffet. Everything was perfect. Decorations, food, service et al
Delicious meal in a historic hotel.
The Jazz brunch was extremely nice. Facebook most have been listening to my dilemma for a classy jazzy brunch place to bring a birthday to Because this place nailed it. The music was so great. $15 for weak bottomless mimosas, I has 4. My $13 wild mushroom scramble was cold and watery but the great waiter asked about it and the cook put it back on the skillet. Yeah! It tasted much much better warm and not wet. Plus that price is not bad. Everyone else’s food was very good. Wish they had gluten free bread but it’s okay. I definitely will be bringing more people to this wonderful place.
The Hotel Sorrento does a lot of really cool events in the fireside room! I took my aunt to jazz brunch most recently and it was lovely! It is definitely a place that I regularly check to see what events they have going on! The room is absolutely beautiful and we have always had a great time there!
For drinks, yes. For high tea, probably not. Atmosphere was lovely and service was great. Sandwiches and scones were tasty. Desserts in the high tea were phoned in, meaning not as thoughtful as the rest of the experience . Macaroons were not made on site, server didn't know flavors and said they weren't listed on the box they came in. Think perhaps the other sweets were purchased elsewhere as well. If they enhance their sweets it would be worth going again.
Thank You. I had Lunch with a Dear Friend and Former Supervisor who let me know that it'd been 30 years since the last time she'd eaten at The Dunbar Room at Hotel Sorrento. She was very appreciative for her revisit to its marvelous ambience and atmospheric presence as well I. I am employed at Virginia Mason Medical Center and Hospital and find it quite conducive to have this wonderful get-away for seating in a quiet Lunch setting reading my book and enjoying a wonderful meal. The first time I experienced visiting Your wonderful Dunbar Room Service at Hotel Sorrento was Summer 2019 when lunched on outside Patio with valuable friends and former colleagues at the suggestion of my Colleague. I cannot express in these few words how contagious and important it is for me to "NOW KNOW!" about this inconspicuous community gem. Thank You for your Quality and Service.
We all enjoyed our evening at the Dunbar Room
of the Sorrento Hotel.
Dunbar room was closed so our reservation was move to the noisy fireside room. The room was crowded and understaffed so Service was slow ( 20 min to place order and 45 min until first of order arrived). The food was great but since we told them we had to be done in 1 hr we had to ask for bill immediately and gobble the good food.
We have had much better and faster service in the past in the Dunbar room. Hopefully this was just a bad night so we'll try them again later.
Holiday tea was not up to expectations. No explanation of teas (how long to steep, flavor notes, etc) or menu and tea sandwiches seemed like they had been made the night before...not fresh. Servers wanted to be helpful but seemed to lack training and knowledge. I felt rushed to finish and leave. They were also not equipped to make substitutions for dietary restrictions. Good ambiance but lacking in every other way. Not worth the (literal) ticket price. If you want a special tea, there are definitely better places in the area.
Maybe. Location is convenient to Town Hall. Ambience is lovely. Food was very slow in coming, staff apologetic.
We have been here many times for lunch and dinners and this was one of the worst times. It was very chaotic, we were seated at the bar rather than a table we reserved. The staff were agitated and distracted, it took an extremely long time to get our food; the chicken was raw, two dishes were incorrect, an extra salad was brought out to us and the server was irritated that it was not for our table.
It will be a while before we come back.
A nice holiday tea was provided, quite elegantly in The Sorento’s beautiful surroundings. I would recommend this to all. However, compared to the 3-4 high teas served in the greater Puget Sound, it was not quite perfect. Tea pots were allowed to run dry, and much of the tasty finger sandwiches were on dry bread. I’d hoped it would equal tea served at The Empress, but that is a very high standard ;)
All in all though, a lovely start to the holiday season, thanks 🎄
I was surprised by the selection for a $110/per person buffet. The food was not great - very dry stuffing, very dry turkey, limited selection of food.
Our hostess and server were great but then the “executive chef” came around and seemed to push us out of the restaurant. It was a very sour note to end the evening and ironic that the person responsible for such a dismal buffet was also responsible for such poor customer service.
Even though we were married at the hotel ten years ago, I’m not sure we’ll be back within ten years after tonight’s experience.
Thanksgiving dinner. We were seated in fireside room which was lovely. Some of the seating there had very low tables which I would not have liked. The Dunbar room seemed to hold the larger parties.
Food was excellent, although not shears hot enough. It's a budget, so I understand the struggle to keep food hot. Chef was wandering thru frequently and helped me get my husband's plate as he is disabled.
Only thing I missed was a pecan pie... Although there were three other desserts
It's a bit pricey, but for the two of us it was a lovely day to spend Thanksgiving.
The halibut was plated atop warm vegetables but it was very acidy-too many cooked tomatoes. Burned my tongue from the acidity. My husband has the pasta dish and was satisfied but underwhelmed.
I had a great sense to go to Dunbar Room and have Eggs Benedict for Lunch hour. Deann's and June's service and the entire Facility were of great quality and everything, outstanding. Thanks for the chance to answer your Survey!
I loved our visit. We had a girls brunch with my daughter and a few friends. I love the atmosphere, makes the experience really special!!!!
Nice setting, classy and cozy...and good food
Mary was amazing. She was knowledgeable went through the menu and wine list for us. We went with all of her suggestions and were not disappointed. Really loved the new wine I'd never heard of before. She made my date and I feel like regulars. We will be back for sure.
Tasteless fare. Slow service. Not at all what was expected from a $33 a plate restuarant in our favorite hotel.
