Duke of Kendal
For a few years now, the pub has been run by owner Ali, manageress Maria, and their staff, to deliver the best experience as possible during your time at the Duke of Kendal.
If you’re hungry, our Hungarian chef Victor will prepare his delicious homemade English food from the menu, and don’t forget to ask about the specials of the day.
The Duke Of Kendal is situated in Connaught Village, close to Marble Arch Station, a superb place for a relaxing drink and/or meal after a busy day’s shopping in nearby Oxford Street or after enjoying yourself in the even closer Hyde Park.
My birthday. Friendly and welcoming as always
The ambient was amazing.
We were a big group of friends and we all agreed that the atmosphere and music were great.
Even though we were lots of people, staff were very patient and kind to us. It really makes a difference if you want to spend a nice time in a traditional english pub!
I'll 100% recommend it if you want a cozy and unforgettable night with friends!
I had the Lamb special Sunday Lunch.
Very enjoyable food: the meat was very tender and there was good selection of vegetables and gravy.
I also had the red fruit crumble with ice cream.
The service was just right.
Overall a very good Sunday lunch.
I will be going back again soon and recommend it.
Apart from me trying something new I enjoyed the food. Wine very expensive!!!
Was lovely. Staff was extremely helpful and nice!
What a nice place to go for some food and drinks.
Great location and decent food for the price.
If you are fortunate to go to the Duke Of Kendal pub on a Sunday evening, you will have a good dinner but if you stay in the bar you will have the time of your life. On Sundays the locals come out to perform with the 90+ year old piano player and you are transported to another decade. I’ve never had such a grand time singing songs I thought long forgotten. Incredibly welcoming and gracious- this is an experience I will not forget!
First dinner in London, and it did not disappoint. Great pub ambience, very good service and fantastic fare. Everyone in my party went with the Sunday Roast, either chicken or Lamb. We all departed full and happy. We'll be back before this trip ends.
Relaxing, comfortable, easy going
We had a great time at The Duke of Kendal! I’ve wanted to eat here for a long time. It really did exceed my expectation. I got the beef pie, the beef was a little tough. Friends had the chicken and said it was really good. I’ll be back.
No Amex and no accuracy to the clients.
Very nice place and very tasty food. We where very happy of all, even the service excellent !!
This place is an absolute gem in central London. A real, warm and cosy pub. The food is excellent, both in quality and execution. The wine list adequate and affordable. The service friendly, professional and faultless. I feel blessed to have it in our neighbourhood and cannot recommend The Duke of Kendal enough.
Went here for dinner with the family. You walk into a bar and then are brought to the restaurant on the side. The decor is somewhat dark and the place appears old (things chipped and peeling). Although there was only one other table, it took quite a while for anyone to actually come over to us to ask us if we wanted a drink or water.
The food was better then I expected based on the appearance of the place. My wife like the duck dish. The chicken in the mushroom sauce was good, but I think my child (who took some from me) liked it better than I did. No kids menu.
Overall, the meal was good, but not a place I would go back to as I go to dinner with my kids.
Great pub, good food and service, nice bar and separate dining area
Sunday lunch with granddaughter and daughter. The fish was good and the roast beef tasty. Granddaughter enjoyed the fruit crumble and custard. Nice old fashioned pub
This is a spectacular hidden gem!! Busy Sunday evening packed with locals singing at the piano while we dined in another section. Wine list extremely limited but the food more than made up for it. Grilled duck was perfectly seared and paired nicely with sides. Beef pie was hot and flavorful and an excellent choice. Service started slow but all servers seemed ok helping each other. Priced right, great ambiance, outstanding food. Five Star!!!
Food was really tasty and were able to sit in the dining area where it wasn’t noisy so we were able to have a good old catch up. Will certainly go again
WE ARRIVED AT THE DUKE OF KENDAL TO BE TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT ACCOMMODATE US IN THE RESTAURANT AS THERE WAS A GROUP BOOKING. WE WERE OFFERED A SMALL TABLE IN THE BAR WHICH WOULD NOT HAVE SEATED 7 OF US. THE BAR WAS PACKED AND FULL OF MEN WATCHING FOOTBALL AND DRINKING. NOT A PLACE FOR A 9 YEAR OLD !!! we left and found somewhere else to eat. WE WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE IN A MILLION YEARS.
The staff were very attentive and friendly. And although it was early evening there was a great atmosphere in the pub.
We went before a theatre show, kitchen opens at 6pm (though open table offers reservations earlier). Good pub grub, very generous portions and both the pub and dining room had a good feel about them.
Lovely staff well kept beer in a very pleasant atmosphere. It was particularly nice to sit outside in October.Food was tasty good presentation and good value for London.
Will definately remember this place for the future visits
A spontaneous, within-walking-distance, selection for us ahead of going to a concert at Royal Albert Hall. Typical pub-food options but the roast chicken dish was remarkably good. And they make a really good gin & tonic with extra botanicals in a large bowl glass as is the current trend.
Booked sunday at 13.15 for 10 people for lunch, the table was too small to be comfortable and at arrival we were told that a party of 30 threw the kitchen in great difficulty and we had to wait mire than 30 minutes just to place the order. When we protested that we had a reservation we did not receive much simpathy from the pub workers.
The food was not bad, but the overall experience was negative.
This was a nice local pub located near our hotel at Marble Arch. We sat in the dining area, which meant table service rather than the traditional "order at the bar" process. While our waitress was very pleasant, she was not at all familiar with the menu--didn't know the specials of the day--and was completely unable to tell me about the local beers and ales on tap. I had to go to the bar and research on my own, then return to the table to order. We would have been better off taking a chance on the front room and avoiding table service. That being said, the food was quite good and very tasty. Hopefully our waitress will be better informed by now.
Typical London Pub but very stuffy. Lacking in service and good food selection. We did like the Feta green salad. Needed more serving staff. Wait a very long time for our meal.
the Roast dinner was one of the better ones I have had and the portion and price were well matched. Beer selections are great too, perfect for a chilling Sunday date.
Excellent sunday lunch, very good value, which is so hard to find in central London. Lovely staff, nice old fashioned local pub. Will be back
Warm service, friendly atmosphere and a great Sunday Roast! Really good value for money, too.
Very friendly service, great small pub that does a great Roast on Sunday. Highly recommend.
Sunday roast at the Duke of Kendal. Outstanding value so close to the West End. Excellent food, friendly service and friendly fellow diners. Would certainly go back.
There is nothing quite like the Sunday night sing along at the Duke. A great group of people and the best escapism you will ever find.
My main issue was when I tried to change rice on a dish for something else. I was told I could only substitute this for salad, rather than anything hot, in an unfriendly tone, so I had to have a different dish entirely. Most other places will try to accommodate your dietary requirements. Apart from this, the atmosphere was nice and the food I did have was good.
