Due Mari Ratings and Reviews
Valentine’s day. The duck was cold. My veal was ok, but the fixed menu price was no value and the ambiance not special—we were seated in the bar aisle. Our appetizers were taken to someone else’s table first. Service seemed haphazard. The music entertainment seemed unaccomplished. $240 with tip for two people. We are not returning.
The pastry chef Nicole made our night! We sat at the chef’s table facing the dessert prep area and kitchen. She really went out of her way to explain how the desserts are made, was super friendly and helped us select our final course which of course was delicious. We’d go back just to see her.
I am not sure if I am sensitive but I could not understand why I had to wait for about 20 minutes in the bar until my table became ready. I called in advance that I will be 10 minutes late for my reservation but I got there 5 minutes late and many tables empty on the rainy Saturday around 2 pm. the server said ‘I am all by myself, so please wait, ok?’ when I asked when my table was going to be ready after waiting for over 10 minutes. I was surprised because I was expecting to be informed about approximate time for me to be seated. What is the point to make reservation if it’s not respected. I was nervous if my guest would show while being still seated in the empty bar. There was no one else waiting during this time and I just waited without any prediction. After this situation, I couldn’t really enjoy the rest of the meal and I didn’t want to make my guest who joined me later to feel awkward, so I just pretended whole time to be pleasant. I am not sure why this happened and this kind of situation tends to make me feel conscious if this happened due to my skin color. I hope it was not from such a reason.
Food was good but not over the top. Some unusual sauce combinations. But service was not up to snuff. Had to ask for everything —water bread drinks menu ck and ck payment. Waitress was either over worked it distracted. Lower your expectations and you’ll enjoy.
This is my favorite restaurant in New Brunswick. It is on the pricey side, but worth it if you want something special. Nice choice of Cocktails to choose from. The tuna appetizer with fresh acorn squash was light and good. I highly recommend their homemade gnocchi- they melt in your mouth. The branzino (fish) complimented with acorn purée and finely chopped fresh vegetables was the perfect size plate. The desserts and fresh coffee were a perfect ending to a date night experience. The service was spot on - my water glass was always full. Enjoy! I can’t wait fo go back again.
They do nice a job. It’s a upscale Manhattan feel in New Brunswick restaurant . Circle bar. The bartenders are ok, old fashions are half a glass with a rock ice cube but 17 bucks which is completely over priced. The fish are fresh food production is quick. Service is usually on point but not during college break ( you can tell people are away). They get 8 bucks for still which again slightly high for that water. 4-6 should be.
Two people with alcohol will be around 150-200.00. If you do prefix same thing. Only way you win if no dessert. we will
Continue to come back because the branzino is on point and the place is two miles away for us.
Still at the top of the New Bruswick dining scene. Had excellent lamb chops. Service was not up to Due Mari’s high standards. We had to request bread which is normally offered without asking. Staff seemed a little overwhelmed depsite the fact that it was a slow night. Due Mare is too good a place to not have top-notch service.
There were very long pauses between getting seated and ordering a drink (one wine, two sodas), getting drinks served, getting the meal served and getting dessert. The food was good, but it was over priced. We had eaten in NYC the week before and paid the equivalent for the meal, but in NYC all three of us had appetizers and multiple drinks.
I planned to propose to my girlfriend and spoke with their event coordinator/staff who were very pleasant! All the requested accommodations went according to plan, and I felt at ease knowing I had their support. Only thing was, they lost my leftovers at the end! But we stayed a few minutes and they re-made the whole dish for me to take home -- wow! Great ambiance, excellent service, just a bit pricey.
I had ordered flowers for my wife's birthday and they had placed them on our table along with glasses for Prosecco - perfect. The service was great without being over-attentive or intrusive. The food was delicious - their tagliatelle bolognese is really excellent! We go here for date nights and Birthday's - it's an hour drive for us but totally worth it.
We like Michael White restaurants, especially the Italian ones. Due Mari is nice for a pre-theater meal. The staff is attentive .My husband had the 4 course prix fixe - romana salad, gnocci, brodetto and sorbet, which he loved. I had a poached pear salad which was dressed nicely, and my main was halibut, made gluten free for me - very good.
We use to love this restaurant. We went on a Sunday. On Sundays, drinks at the bar are half-price. We decided to have a glass of Prosecco. It should have been $6.00 a glass. When our bill arrived we noticed we were charged $12.00 a glass. We ordered a bottle of wine which arrived after we had finished our appetizers. Unacceptable. My gnocchi, although very good, arrived lukewarm. My entrée, Brodetto, which is a fish stew, had cold fish. They came and poured hot broth over it but it didn't help very much. I think a restaurant of this caliber should be serving hot food. At least heat the plates. We will not return, which is disappointing.
Continues to offer excellent food.
Disappointed that at 6:30 PM, the pasta I chose was no longer available.
After the first course, they set up a table behind me that was so close that multiple servers and guests bumped into me.
Despite the shortcomings we enjoyed our meal.
We were seated at a private table with access to windows which allowed us to watch people passing by. The service was fine and our meal nicely presented. Our only complaint was that we were asked multiple times if this was a special occasion and each time, we answered yes,so we presumed they would acknowledge it, however, that did not happen. Disappointing end .
The experience was marred when our server dropped my date’s entree next to her seat, which stained her pocketbook. The manager was very apologetic, and I expected some accommodation on the bill, but that did not happen. Otherwise, our food was fine and I will go back.
