What Insiders Are Saying
Duck Duck Goat is a high-end Chinese restaurants that's always fun with excellent and interesting food.
Date night food was amazing environment so cool
Everything was outstanding. The service was friendly and attentive. They helped us navigate the menu and select amazing dishes. Everything we ordered was fantastic. They accommodated our large party perfectly. Definitely going back.
a lot of what we ordered came with an absurd amount of mushrooms, almost as if they were trying to use it to make the portions seem bigger; however, the food was still good. I just wouldn’t say it lives up to the cost.
Such delicious and unique dishes. I liked that it was family style so we could order several items and try different things. Really appreciated them having a vegetarian menu that showed all of the options in one place.
I lived in Asia for many years, and this place gave me a wonderful nostalgic feeling -- as well as the food was absolutely outstanding!! LOVED every minute and cant wait to come back!
Go with a group so that you can taste many dishes. Each one was better than the next!!
HIGHLY recommend short rib and bone marrow dumplings, green beans, shishito peppers, pecan cauliflower, pecan chicken...just to name a few!
We ordered a handful of fabulous menu items. Four of the five were fantastic and I would struggle not to order them again: dan dan noodles, beef won ton soup, chi chow fun gor, and a wacky fabu desert that started with jiang (I think) which is a spicy vanilla ice cream wrapped in a crepe with sugar coated cilantro. The only item I’d skip is the shrimp toast; there is nothing bad to say it was merely average compared to the rest. Also enjoyed a peninsula sling which is a spicy mezcal cocktail with pineapple schrub on the rocks. Great service too. Looking forward to a return future visit.
Awesome vegan menu and ambiance. We loved the food and are totally planning on going back!
Disappointing. I really wanted to like this restaurant as I do the others in the group. Our table wasn't ready for awhile and there was no room at the bar. It was very loud and people seemed to be trying to impress one another with how much fun they were having by out shouting one another. I dine out all the time and this was unpleasantly LOUD. The server was lovely, however she misled us when we asked her questions. She suggested that our party of two order six dishes from the menu which was way too much food. We were traveling and needed to leave at least one and one half dishes behind because the portions were so large. This may have been a good amount of food if they dishes were tasting portions, but they were not. The food was tasty, but when asked about the spice level, the server said that the Beef Slap Noodles were not at all spicy. Then it showed up showered in hot peppers. Almost all of the dishes include peppers in some form. I do not mind mild heat, but the heat pervaded the dish. It would have been good to know, especially when I asked directly. The front of the house folks were great, taking our coats and shopping bags. With all of the outstanding restaurants in the Chicago food scene, I probably won't hurry back to this one.
I usually only tolerate Chinese food -- it's just not my favorite. But I loved all the food here. I had the beef slap noodles, which were wonderful. My cousin chose vegan dishes and all of these were great too, especially the pekan cauliflower. Don't miss the mango coconut cloud. Loved the ambiance. It was like a Chinese restaurant from the 1940s. The server was great too -- very enthusiastic about the food, very knowledgeable. Can't say enough.
It was an incredible meal. As always the food us great. We were a big group and they gave us advice, kept the drinks flowing and were generally fun!
It’s one of those meals I will always remember :)
Make a reservation, Go Hungry and Eat Everything. EVERYTHING!
Love this place! Took co-workers and they were so impressed with the food and the decor. My only complaint is that my colleague wanted to order his own meal bc he doesn’t eat certain items and we were basically told we couldn’t order that way. If we’re paying we should be able to order however we’d like, in my opinion. It wasn’t a big deal, just seemed a little odd. Otherwise, everything was great, particularly our waitress! Thanks!
Dim Sum was fabulous! Especially the pot stickers. Duck egg fried rice was amazing. Service was friendly and quick. Will be back next time we are in Chicago!
We were in town for my birthday and a local friend recommended we come here to celebrate. Wow! Wonderful all around. Our server accidentally entered our order incorrectly but he apologized, had it remedied and offered a free dessert on him. No complaints here other than we have to drive to Chicago to eat here!
I was incredibly impressed! I read the reviews and knew the seating was tight but if that makes more seats available for people to enjoy this restaurant, then I'm all in! Very friendly staff seated us early. The waiter made many suggestions on how much to order and explained the menu well. This is referenced as a Chinese restaurant but it's so much more. You won't find chop suey or orange chicken anywhere in the menu. We started with beef won ton soup. I had zero expectations of a starter soup. I could not have been more wrong. It was so flavorful and delicious. I could have made the entire meal on this alone. Everything is family style so we really experienced several wonderful dishes. I really can't wait to go back. Exceptional!
Overall wonderful meal, strong attentive service, and beautiful atmosphere
Yummy food. Outstanding flavors. Unique combinations
The food and service was fantastic. The beef wonton soup was delicious with just a small amount of spice & large enough to share. The short rib noodles were amazing!
Went for Sunday brunch with girlfriends. While we were told in advance that the brunch menu only offered limited dim sum options, we happily found a great variety of unique selections to choose from. Our server was friendly and helpful with menu suggestions. Overall we had a great and delicious experience.
I rarely write reviews but Duck Duck Goat nails every. Single. Thing. From the burst of warm air in the entryway to greet you from outside to the helpful, pleasant and prompt staff, to the amazing ambiance and delicious food, this restaurant is a must.
Had to wait almost 30 minutes for a table despite having a reservation. Then seated at “kiddie table” which was very uncomfortable and exposed
Loved the atmosphere and the food was perfect!
Fabulous meal. We loved everything we had. Our waitress was spot on with helping us decide what to pick. So yummy. I will definitely be back!
We had a business dinner at DDG. Everyone commented on the delicious meal. Very lively fun atmosphere
Will definitely return!
I had been dying to try the restaurant and it did not disappoint. Had the soup dumplings, good but would try something new next time. Loved the short rib and bone marrow potstickers. The octopus, cucumber, and peanut salad is a keeper. Liked the beef slap noodles more than the goat. Duck fried rice was good, but not a lot of duck meat. Would skip doing any fried rice. Wild mushrooms and shrimp was awesome. Green beans are also a definite staple. We were suppose to do the pecan chicken but were to full - next time.
As with all Iron Chef Izard's restaurants, this one is top flight. Food is creative and flavorful, service is perfect and the environment inviting. It was difficult to only order five things from the menu and that was too much for two given the mix of dishes we ordered. I would recommend this to everyone that apprecriates quality food served with care and flair. In particular we enjoye the octopus appetizer and the green beans. The peppers are also wonderful, but here and there one might be too hot. The Chef always handles my wife's chicken allergy perfectly, adapting a dish or insuring that it is prepared without any possibility of contamination. You will be hard pressed to find an Asian cuisine restaurant in Chicago the equal of this one. Do not miss it.
Great food, great space, great service.
Great service, food & drinks were delish
Fun spot for “Americanized” Chinese. Similar to Red Farm in NYC. Buzzy scene with service a little harried. Cool decor. Creative drinks.
The food is too tasty to describe. Absolutely phenomenal!
Duck Duck Goat was fairly good, but I more or less went to try the last of the "Goats" in Chicago. Go to Chinatown for the same or better quality at a small fraction of the price.
We came to Duck Duck Goat for my boyfriend's birthday dinner, and was it worth it! It was our first time, and the quality of the service from the moment we entered the door until the time we left was outstanding. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable about the food, what ingredients are used in each dish, and had great recommendations. There's a separate vegetarian/vegan menu, and everything we ordered was bursting with flavor -- absolutely delicious! I highly recommend Duck Duck Goat for a special occasion or quieter celebration.
We flew from NJ just to try this restaurant and It exceded Our expectations. I would reccomend this to anyone who is Visiting CHI! Excellent food!
Brunch dim sum style was delicious!
Fantastic options for both me (vegan) and my non-vegan dining date! Definitely one of the top 3 places for vegan food at restaurant not target explicitly to vegans! They have a separate menu with vegan & vegetarian options. Thank you!
Love the food, atmosphere and service. This only reason I didn’t give this visit full stars is because I’m not sure if our server forgot part our order last night, but our second entree didn’t arrive until well after our first was finished and the side rice gone. We basically ate this protein dish some because we felt bad sending it back at that point. Next time I guess we’ll specify to send the two entrees out together.
Great food. Too many great options to choose from. Only downfall was our appetites weren’t big enough for the entire menu. Must try the Pekan cauliflower!
Stephanie is truly an amazing chef. Blown away that an entirely non Asian group can create such outstanding food. This is NOT Pf Chang.
This was truly incredible. My family came into town and this was their favorite spot. I would recommend the duck to anyone who hasn't been yet. Such an amazing dish!
