Food and set service were great!!
Hey look, I get that it's KC. It's not NY or Chicago, or SF. It's KC (a veritable culinary and cultural wasteland, perhaps the worst food city in America) so when we come here, we genuinely adjust our expectations accordingly. We ate at Drunken Fish a couple years ago and it actually wasn't "half bad", and we like the store in STL, so we said "what the hell, let's give it a go". I really have to stop having that thought process (and I really have to stop coming to KC and expecting there to be decent dining experiences).
This week's experience was definitely full-bad. The food was passable at best. Yes, I know I ordered sushi in Missouri - I get it, but the food at the Drunken Fish in STL is SO MUCH better, and that's Missouri too.
The restaurant was only at 30-40% occupancy, so there was no excuse for service to be as bad as it was. Also, it's 2019 (with all restaurants now using modern order entry and expediting systems to manage orders), so there is zero excuse for food to arrive at the table and be auctioned off. I could sort of understand it if a food runner or a server from a different section has to auction off the dishes, but the waiter who actually took our order is standing there asking "who had the Spider Roll?", "who has the Dragon Roll", "who had the whatever roll?". There's just no excuse for restaurants to be this poorly managed and supervised. Training appears to be non-existent. Poor showing guys.
This place was really nice. They asked if we wanted to go upstairs or not and we said we wanted a more intimate table. Upstairs isnt as crowded and noisy so that was great. Now when it comes to the food, I'm a huge sushi snob and this sushi the most expensive I've had and it wasnt bad but not the best. There wasnt as much flavor as I was hoping. It was more smooth and mild then pops of flavor. The stir fry noodles were flavorless too. The mr. Miyagi cocktail was wonderful tho. Overall, probably wont go back just because we spent $95 and the sushi just wasnt worth it.
They have a really good lunch special! And happy hour, but we went before a concert for the happy hour and they told us they don't do happy hour on event nights.
Great food and good service. Will definitely visit again
Dined at Drunken Fish before the Jonas Brothers concert. Great pre-concert venue, but be sure and have reservations! Close to Sprint Center and on the Streetcar Line. Tried the Mr. Miyagi drink...perfect for two! The sushi rolls were wonderful and I highly recommend the Caterpillar Roll. Will definitely come back.
The food was perfect, the flavors were on point, the freshness was notable. Overall delicious!
Visiting for the KC Chiefs game and this was the best sushi ever.
Food was way too fried and way too sugary.
One of my favorite places for sushi in KCMO.
Location and food were great. We had a reservation and got seated promptly. It was advertised online as happy hour when we made the reservations, which was part of the reason we picked the restaurant as I had never been before. Then when we got there and got seated we were informed they don’t have HH on nights where the Sprint Center has an event. Sprint Center always has events so my thoughts are that if you go.. you’ll have to call ahead if you want HH to see if they are having it which is a bit of a pain. Otherwise, if you don’t care about that.. food and service was good!
The food is always great everytime I go! We had terrible service, though. She was a very sweet girl but SUPER inattentive.
Just not as good as it once was, very dirty and sticky floors, sticky table tops, noisy - made reservations but still got lousy seating, waitress was very busy - sweet and nice - and we still tipped over 20%, but ultimately not as happy as we’ve been before... I expect delays and mistakes sometimes when it’s busy, but Drunken Fish was not as busy as I’ve seen it, but wait staff seemed overwhelmed. The food was ok - not given the prices. There are much better sushi places in KC - probably won’t be back anytime soon.
Nice meal after the Irish Fest. Outside seating great evening to be out.
We went for happy hour. Important to note that happy hour is only available at the bar/patio and not when there is a concert (found that out the hard way!). Service was fast. Patio view was nice. Good portion of food.
Food was awesome. calamari appetizer was spot on. Green tea drink was average. Whiskey sour was very good. House salad was good. Greens in the lettuce could have been made smaller, more chopstick friendly. Sushi was good. Would eat here again.
We had a very good night out at Drunken Fish. The service was good, the sushi was delicious. The cocktail (raspberry lemonade) was just okay. The acoustics make it very loud inside the restaurant, and it was also a busy Saturday night, so it made conversation a challenge. Overall it was pretty decent experience.
Was not good for what it cost. The sushi was really plain. Service was good. Cool location. The food was bunk .
This was my third time at Drunken Fish. It was a rather disappointing visit. The food was great, as it has been consistently. At not even 1/4 capacity, service was slow for us. Our server had a few tables with young ladies & adult beverages. We were a family of 3 with water. We had to beg for his attention, several times, sometimes over the same thing that he would keep forgetting. I get it, but pretty unprofessional. Also, I couldn’t help but notice how noisy it was for as empty as it was. I was glad there weren’t more customers in there.
We had to wait 25 minutes just to get water and menus. The food was over priced and mediocre at best. Kona Grill on the plaza is a MUCH better option.
The food was amazing, service was good! I had the drunkin fish roll and the spicy spider roll I believe. It was wonderful, would definitely recommend.
The meal was great! Server fantastic. Love the 1/2 off menu! Great value.
Sushi, sashimi, and soup were all tasty. The service was not so great. Our waiter took 10 minutes to bring water to our table and forgot our cocktails. He was forgetful towards other tables around us as well. It also took 20 minutes to get our bill paid so we could leave. We had to ask another waiter to find our waiter so we could get our bill.
The sushi was good but we have had better at other restaurants. Service was slow in the beginning for the drink order. Server was nice and attentive.
Fantastic food and drinks! Our server was awesome! He was so friendly and informative.
Our favorite place to dine before a concert!
Food, drinks and service was fabulous! We live Drunken Fish for their consistent high quality.
In this occasion, the Menus were completely worn out and felt dirty. The chair I was seated in was covered with something sticky, although, gratefully, the server was quick to remedy the situation.
The hostess was very rude she purposely made us wait 30 minutes for rooftop seating just to get up there and the rooftop was empty with no ambiance. The experience ruined our Saturday night.
Sofie was a great server! Food as excellent. Veges were awesome and so was sushi.
We had 5:30 reservations so it was early. The floors were dirty and sticky. Our table not steady. The women’s bathroom only had one working toilet and was dirty. The food was great but cleanliness was terrible
Food over priced and did not taste very good. We had sushi and it didn’t taste fresh, which for the price I expected it to be decent.
Some of the best sushi we have had in KC.
The food was okay. Our server Larry wasn't very attentive. He took our drink, app and food order. There was a beer item on the menu but we were told the beer company was out of business. That item should have been taken off the menu. We got our meal and asked where our apps were. The girl that brought our meal apologized. We finally got our apps in the middle of the meal. The meal was okay. Larry would pass by the table but didn't check on us. We will not go back.
Close enough to the real thing. Good time, just all it’ll noisy
Everything was amazing. BUT they were out of two appetizers we wanted. That was sad.
Completely disappointed. Advertised happy hour. Made reservation for appropriate time. Arrived and seated only to find out that only select tables are eligible for happy hour. We even had an advertisement on our table for happy hour. Just a scam to get people in early I guess.
Food was mediocre at best. 90% of the rolls have Kano Kama (imitation crab) as a filler. So many better sushi places to eat in KC.
Definitely not a high end place at all.
Servers were polite despite our apparent agitation.
DO NOT EAT HERE. Asked to sit on patio for happy hour and then told our party was too big (5) so we got moved inside and sat in a place that did not do happy hour and got moved again to a table that we were told is in the happier hour section only to be told my another waiter and manager that we were in the happy hour section. Very frustrating and ridiculous. Left before we even got food. Last time I went here we had a reservation and still had to wait 45 minutes! Food was not good and service was horrible.
Food was good, but the dishes were filthy. We had to change out a couple of our plates because previous food was crusted over on it. If it wasn't for my mil's bday, we would've really complained other than asking for new dishes (which those also weren't completely clean).
