Drunken Fish - Central West End Ratings and Reviews
My experience, service, & the quality of food was great. The only bad experience I had was making a reservation through open table and the lady confirmed my reservation but I never received my points. This was a special occasion to celebrate my fiance's birthday and this is not the first occasion that I make a reservation on Opentable and have to go back and forth about points that I actually earned and have the receipt to prove it.
outstanding service, from recommending places to park through waiting for our guests on the sidewalk, accommodating a change in our seating time due to our guests running late, then ensuring we were sitting in the best spot to people watch while dining and recommending great, delicious menu items - best service we have had in quite a while
I've eaten at the restaurant several times, seems like there's ALWAYS an issue. In the past I've had service issues, not the case this time. Perhaps that's because it was lunch time and practically empty. I had a craving for sashimi, so I knew I wanted the sashimi platter before I arrived. When we were seated and given our menus we were told that everything on the menu was available EXCEPT they were out of salmon. Really?!! A sushi restaurant runs out of salmon....and by lunch time?! Needless to say someone must have failed to order the daily supply of fresh salmon. It would seem to me that fresh salmon would be delivered daily, and a necessity, for a decent sushi restaurant? My first inclination was to exit the premises, but unfortunately I didn't. I mentioned to our lovely waitress that I would like the sashimi platter ($33) and presumably there would be a substitution for the absence of salmon? She hesitated, but then said sure. I told her I was a little disappointed to hear they were out of salmon, to which she responded, "so am I, but would you believe it happens quite often?!" Needless to say that sealed the deal for me, Drunken Fish is no longer a viable option for sushi in STL. Go somewhere else!! I must also add that the place appears to be filthy! I picked up the soy sauce bottle and it stuck to my hand. Could they not wipe these down?! The more I looked around I noticed there were a lot of things that looked filthy, like the inside of the glass window. When you sit indoors in the CWE people watching is just something you do....bring some windex and a paper towel if you'd like to people watch from Drunken Fish!! How about some new management?!!!
Amazing food at an unbelievable value! They sat us right away even though we were 20 minutes late for our reservation due to traffic, although they sat us next to the kitchen & bathroom, which wasn't great but I didn't ask to be moved. Also the main courses came before we had barely gotten into our appetizers, but the food was all very tasty.
I had a great time on a rainy Saturday evening at Drunken Fish - CWE. Abigail provided stellar service. The only issue I had was the bar was slow. My girlfriends and I were catching up with each other for the first time in years, and the only thing that slowed the experience down was the bar. Other than that, everything was great!!
Double date night with my brother and sister-in-law after giving birth to their daughter. The lobster spring rolls were not what I expected - fried cream cheese with lobster bits. Sushi was bland and covered in mayo based sauces. Waiter rolled his eyes A LOT because we turned down purchasing alcohol three separate times (we don't drink). He was uninterested an only perked up when he brought the check. We still talk about that more than how it was a waste of money. This place isn't cheap. STL has MANY great (homemade) sushi options now. I highly recommend a local sushi restaurant on Olive near SLU campus.
The service was absolutely terrible!!! I will not be going back even with all the coupons that they send me. Apparently there were only two sushi chefs and that's why it took 35 minutes to receive our order??? And I forget "Duckie's" excuse for me waiting 20 minutes for my first drink after them not even having Smirnoff... I was completely baffled by how terrible they treated us! Wow guys...
The food was good but the ambiance was not. We sat at a table along the same wall at the door to the kitchen. Our table and the bench seat shook every time the door to the kitchen swung ope--which was often. It made a very loud noise as well. I would not go back to this location.
Great location in CWE. Disappointed at the quality of the food. We had appetizer of tuna that was fried, tasted like cat food. For dinner we had shrimp/vegetable tempura. The shrimp was rubbery and vegetables had no taste. We also got yellow tail Mexicano entree which was poorly seasoned and the fish was chewy- not fresh. The sticky fries were ok, but cold. Our friends from out of town had nothing to say about their sushi- good or bad. We were scared to ask. Service was attentive but for $140 - we were expecting much more. We would of been better off eating at the bar across the street.
It may have been a bad night. It was fairly lateSaturday. We made the mistake of sitting outside. Service was very slow. The waiter was not familiar with the bar. The calamari appetizer wasn't any better than Long John Silvers. Entrees were mediocre. I wouldn't go back.
This was our second time visiting and it was just as please as the first. Our waiter Brian was wonderful the first time explaining the menu to us and was extremely helpful when we were trying to decide what to get our toddler. Great staff, service and clean!
I usually like The Drunken Fish, but whomever the manager was yhos day. wasn't pleasant. No name, or smile, sat me by the wall at a table that was too close to it and was too heavy to move to even get comfortable. I wanted a window seat. The drinks were water, The waiter didn't introduce himself, and he only asked if I needed anything once. Also the prices weren't happy hour pricing or the menu doesn't match what was charged, because it was expensive for happy hour. I will think twice before returning.
The wife and I love Drunken Fish. We normally go to the one in Westpark but we had a room at the chase so we tried the central west end location and loved it. The set up is nice and Jeremy our server was great. Everyone should try drunken fish I highly recommend it.
First visit and last. Poor service. Server was pleasant but had zero knowledge of the menu. Food quality was very poor. Steamed dumplings were greasy The tuna was Very unpleasant to chew. The hamachi was far from fresh. One of my guests actually spit it out into her napkin. No one touched the remaining three pieces. Very limited selection of raw fish to begin with.
My husband and I flew to STL for a quick getaway and came across The Drunken Fish around the corner from our hotel. It was NOT a pleasant experience. The hostess was REALLY nice, so we were hopeful the experience would be great. It was terrible. Our waiter never put in the order for our appetizer and when we reminded him AFTER our sushi came to the table he still charged us for it. We never saw him again. We had to flag down another waiter to fill our drinks and bring our check. I was so disappointed. The food was okay. Not great. Would not recommend this place to anyone traveling or living there.
This is my husband's favorite sushi place in St Louis so we drove all the way from Chesterfield to dine here. However, it was not worth the drive. We never got our food. After waiting 45 minutes for simple rolls, we gave up and left. The whole time we kept being told that the kitchen is backed up. After we complained to the manager, we found out that this place has been understaffed for weeks. Don't bother with this place unless you have two hours to spare.
Friday evening dinner, so the place was pretty full but service was very slow. Reservation was at 6:45 and we finally had the bill paid just short of 9. Glad we didn't have a show to catch after dinner or anything as we'll usually budget an hour and a half for dinner.
We sat upstairs where the music was way too loud causing everyone to yell over it and thus also yell over each others' conversations. Our waiter misunderstood my order of Coffee Mochi for a cup of coffee, I would guess with the music turned down he could have heard my order.
Overall, very good food, slow service, bad music that's too loud.
The food is always good but the service was so bad this time. Had to ask for water, ask for untensels, wasabi, ginger, and the waiter overcharged our bill by $30.00. We had to wait while that was changed and then call back because my card was charged for both amounts. So the food was good but everything else was pretty crappy. Never had service like this before. Also we ordered a dessert which never came.
There was nothing particularly wrong with our date night, just nothing particularly great either. The service was good but the food was mediocre at best. It was definitely over priced for the quality. I don't think we will return, given that we can get better quality sushi for a more reasonable price elsewhere.
