Drew's on Halsted Ratings and Reviews
Good was good. Prices were very reasonable, especially the drink specials. I liked the atmosphere. It was awesome to be able to park there for blue Man group for 5 dollars. The close distance to briar street theater was fantastic. We will definitely go again.
Sunday Brunch before the matinee at the theatre. Nice to pay $5 for parking and to be able to leave our vehicle parked until after the show. Food was good, very convenient. Was Looking forward to the Bloody Mary bar advertised, and they didn't have it on this particular Sunday. Was disappointed about that, otherwise, yes, I'd recommend it.
Went in for a quick brunch with a friend on New Years day hoping for their brunch menu. But they only have that on weekends. Slightly disappointed but my lunch totally made up for it. I had the mushroom quesadillas and the calamari! So good! Our server stopped by often and our water glass never went empty!! Can't wait to go back and try their brunch menu!
The food was great once we finally got our table. We had a reservation for 6:30 and didn't get seated until 7:05. Meanwhile there was a large table sitting open. Another party walked in at 6:50 and was immediately sat at that table. Very frustrating and the hostess just kept telling us 10 more minutes. We had show tickets for 8 so we had to rush thru our dinner. Don't think I would go back.
Everything about this restaurant is great! The good and drinks were excellent, decent amount of seating, full bar. The restaurant smells like delicious food and the waiter were nice.
BUT- the service took forever. It took 15 min for them to realize we didn’t even have water yet. Then he brought the pitcher over and left without asking us if we wanted any other drink. Just a really dragged out process to get any food or alcohol. Also, some of the tables are very close together which makes it difficult to have any serious or private discussion without the next table hearing your convo.
Learned about Drew’s after researching a place to dine prior to the Blueman show. It was perfect for my daughter 25th birthday dinner. They had a special menu for the show ($25) or you can order off the main menu. We did both. The salads were fresh and crisp. The main course was quite large and very tasty. Service was top notch. Location was the best, we were able to park at the church behind Drew’s for $5 and walk the few short blocks to the show. Highly recommend this place prior to the show.
The entrance area is tight and our reservations were for 7pm. Two other parties were waiting to be seated and at least one of them also had reservations. The dining room was only Hal full but it took her several minutes to figure out where to seat anyone. And though the reservation for the party of 5 was apparently expected, their table wasn’t prepared so she then asked us to move to accommodate the bussers need to move the table he was setting for the five. Really? Why not seat us to get us out of the way? We stepped closer to the bar to get out f the way but found ourselves in the way of waitstaff getting to the service bar. There was a nice four top available at the window facing Belmont but she seated us at what I would consider one of the worst tables just past the kitchen doors. There was a dish stand/service station there too where there was lots of banging and crashing while we ate and the noise level ramped up as the dining room filled. The food and service saved them. One bus/support person, a small wiry many, was so responsive and excellent we tipped him $10 on our way out. I’ll go back. It’s a good neighborhood place.
Food was good. Restaurant promotes Gluten Free menu, but doesn’t really have many gluten free options - no gluten free bread, all fried items are not gluten free. Basically steak and chicken (just like every decent restaurant) are the only gluten free options. Kids menu is only for children under 10 - so our 11 and 12 year old had no appealing options.
A perfect Thanksgiving for our party of 4. Drew was there, and he makes himself 100% part of the dinner service working alongside his staff. I love seeing that attitude from a restaurant owner. The martinis were steallar, and the food delicious. It’s not cheap, but so worth it. Perfect for a special occasion. Great atmosphere inside for what might seem like a busy corner outside. We will be back!
