Drew's on Halsted Ratings and Reviews
I went last Saturday night, before a comedy show. I had a reservation and were seated right away. We ordered the bacon wrapped dates and a salad. They were both great. My friend ordered the bowtie pasta with sausage and loved it. Especially since it had tons of sausage and a very flavorful tomato sauce. I ordered the 10 oz filet mignon with mashed potatoes, grilled vegetables (zucchini, squash, corn & asparagus) and sauteed spinach. The filet was cooked perfectly and still an inch tall. It was devine with the red-wine reduction sauce. It is a great neighborhood spot. The manager told us they have specials during the week and $5 mimosa's for brunch. We will definitely be back soon.
It was a get together of 5 out of town friends and Drew's made it special. Our selections were all different ranging from seafood, pork, duck and chicken. Each entree was delicious and visually appealing. Service was quick, responsive and courteous. Definite return visit destination when in town again.
We came for a birthday party with 9 adults for brunch. It took over 15 mins just to order our first round of drinks, after we ordered drinks and food the waiter disappeared for over 45 minutes we had to ask other waiters for drinks refills. When the food came out, the last order took an additional 10 mins to bring out compared to the other entrees which was an order of pancakes and the quickest item to cook. I would not recommend this to a friend
I have been dining at Drew's back when it was still Jack's on Halsted, many years, and last night was the first time we had a bad experience.
1. We were asked to sit in the bar area, which was great actually, as it was a great day, cool breeze and the windows were opened, however, when people would go outside to smoke, they would stand there and the cigarette smoke would blow back in. What happened the 15 feet from the door rule?
2. The drinks were mediocre. When you order the specialty drink, watermelon Martini, you want to be able to take some of the watermelon, not just the vodka.
3. The We ordered Crabcakes and the Bacon wrapped dates as apps. The dates come in some marinara sauce, which smothered the great taste of the bacon and dates. Included were these pieces of crostini type bread, which was ABSOLUTELY stale. Nearly cracked a tooth. The crab cakes come out burnt.
4. I ordered the center cut pork chop of which came out warm, and the Brussels sprouts had NO flavoring, and were still uncooked. The sweet potato mash, honestly tasted like it came out of a can and was also cold.
Im not one to make a scene or cause servers to be uncomfortable by being that patron, but I felt that this review hopefully gets back to Drew and team, to possibly improve any mishaps that might have occurred. For now, I can't say for sure that I will be back to Drew's on Halsted, but there is always willingness to give a second chance in the future.
The food was absolutely amazing and the location is perfect too. Our server, Ark, was phenomenal and helped us in choosing cocktails and appetizers and meals. He was very knowledgeable and attentive. Our food came out in a very timely manner and we were very impressed. I will definitely be back!
Went before a concert at wrigley field so we had to get there early (5pm) at opening. It quickly filled with others doing the same, so the slightly chaotic and less than fully attentive service was not surprising. The tapas starters were excellent. The risotto was moist and tasty. The calamari was above average. Salads were fresh although more tomatoes would be nice. The Amish chicken was disappointingly dry and the only flavor was that of peppers. Cocktails and wine were good value
This used to be Jacks on Halsted, it's now Drew's, next incarnation will be Closed on Halsted.
Came here on a Saturday night and had 9:00 reservations, the place had about 4 tables with diners on a Saturday night on a hot busy strip? Red flag number 1. Took 15 min to be noticed after being seated just to get drinks. Red flag #2. Got drink orders and our drinks sat at the bar for 10 minutes so we walked out and walked over to Yoshis and had a fabulous dinner outside on their busy patio. Bye bye Drew's, we'll be seeing a Closed soon!
I've been to Drew's a few times, always for brunch. Normally the servers are very attentive and the food is excellent. This time I was a little disappointed in the quality of food and service. It might have been because we were on the patio and not inside, but I felt like the waiter didn't come and check up on us enough. My mother's eggs benedict was also served on a ciabatta bun, which was weird.
Our party of 5 aged 7-81 and Drew's accommodated each of us. Although I had been to Drew's before, my daughter-in-law is a foodie from Los Angeles and I made this reservation with trepidation. The waiter was awesome and the scallops and salmon were exceptional. And my granddaughter enjoyed the kids menu with fresh lemonade not on the menu they prepared for her. We will be back!
The ambiance was great. I liked the classy decor. The menu was creative and had a wide variety. I had the Cajun pasta which was quite good but could have used a bit of spice for my taste. My wife had the scallops which she said were delicious. She had a couple of martinis that were very good. The cherry pie for dessert was great.
This is a very elegant yet comfortable restaurant with friendly and timely service. Prices seem to be a bit on the high side for entrees, but not overwhelmingly so. I thought the scallop entree I had was delicious though the pear martini was flavorless. It was a completely enjoyable experience reuniting with several friends after a few months. The service was well paced and there were no complaints from anyone in my group. It was an easy time catching up with the comfortable noise level and very accomodating hosts and servers.
