It was the most beautiful evening ever! Superb food, ambiance, hotel is beautiful!! We really enjoyed it tremendously
We came for NYE dinner, which was a five course pre fixed menu. Some of the courses seemed daunting...with ingredients that didn’t seem to make sense together. We were a bit concerned! Each course came with a pairing of wine or bubbly...all yummy. And the food? We were so, so happy! We waxed poetic about an onion that had been soaked in balsamic vinegar. The tenderloin was like butter....items that we would have never ordered off a menu were so delicious and opened our minds to caviar, oysters, pate, duck....so, so good.
Food was excellent, but kitchen very slow and both drinks and first course did not come out for entire party at same time. Chef came out from kitchen and stood talking very loudly to another table for 30 minutes or more. Very rude.
Went for Christmas with a reservation. Hour wait for our table. Food was expensive & mediocre. Would not recommend.
Disappointed in service. We waited over an hour for our dinner. Our waiter, Robert, did not charge us for our beverages and was very apologetic.
Outstanding food- perfect prime rib. I was apprehensive since they didn't note only a fixed price menu on Christmas Day- but each of the 4 courses were excellent. I loved my chocolate dessert. Think the website should be clear if only fixed price was available.
Reasonable priced Prosecco by the bottle. NC allows patrons to cork and take unfinished alcohol in bottles, but keep your cork--otherwise you have no idea where "the cork" has been. One on my bottle wasn't from the bottle or even a sparkling.
Service was marginal- watched him with others- more friendly, more attentive. He didn't know the menu details- I asked about crab cake sauce, asked for rare-to medium rare prime rib... his response made me say "Don't bring it to the table if it's brown".
Even though I went early, knowing solo diners are not really welcome most places- and I was given the worse seat in the place. There were 3 other small tables available and were not used during my entire meal, but instead, I have the bar crowd standing directly behind me when they were ordering drinks. I had all the traffic going both directions as I sat at a corner. on the traffic "intersection". I pulled my table over twice once guests at the next table left so I wouldn't continue to get bumped.
With the hovering of the server while I ate my lovely and special chocolate dessert, I was out of the place exactly 57 minutes from when I sat down to the table. I checked my watch upon arrival and when I left with my 1/2 bottle of sparkling.
I'd go back for the food and dessert any time, but service and table situation was such that I'd choose many of the other outstanding places in Charleston.
This was a last minute reservation for Xmas dinner. We were in Charleston for a short vacation, didn't know the area & didn't think to book ahead. It's a beautiful venue in a great, central location. The service was good, our waiter was attentive. It was a set, 3-course meal menu with 4 - 6 selections for each course. My husband had a beer & I had a glass of wine & a cocktail with our meal. What we ate & drank was not worth over $200 and that's what our bill was. The value was not there for the price of each meal. I might try it again but right now I wouldn't recommend it because of the price. It just wasn't worth the price.
I found the restaurant to be very comfortable , with personal who really cared about your presence there.I was never overburdened with questions about my food , but I was always attended to when I lifted my head to maybe ask for or about something. All my needs where attended to,as well as my guest.I never felt rushed and I was treated like I was the only patron there.I will go back and can't wait for friends to show up for a visit so I can do just that.Get there well before your seating time so that you can explore all the art on display on both sides of the street. At least an hour and a half. You won't regret that you did.
Christmas Eve dinner was outstanding. Excellent food and wonderful wine pairing. Robert was very attentive and compiments to his egg nog!
We ate at The Drawing Room Christmas Eve. The experience and food was absolutely superb!
Dinner and service were top notch. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Charleston!
Our evening at the Drawing Room was a wonderful experience. From walking in the door and seeing the beautiful decor, the music playing, the professional service and the beautiful and delicious meal.
Amazing first course, shrimp bisque, followed by a delicious grouper entree, ending with their amazing rice pudding. It was all wonderfully prepared with exceptional service and the perk of a talented guitarist.
Great drinks, great service, nice dining room but the food was disappointing. We both had a small plate. Octopus was good but the sauce was too thick, tasteless and not smooth. The ham over rye was unbalanced - too salty.
This was our second visit to the Drawing Room, both were special occasions indicated on our reservation. My birthday and our anniversary were not acknowledged on either occasion. Perhaps because both occasions fell on special, prix fixe menu days for the restaurant (restaurant week and Thanksgiving) the servers and/ or managers overlooked the notes on the reservation, however I did remind the manager when he called to confirm our reservation.
On both occasions we had excellent meals with beautiful wine pairings based on input from our servers. The servers were kind and professional but not as attentive as one would expect in fine dining. The chef is creative and does an excellent job, so the food alone may make the restaurant worth trying. The restaurant is in an open air lobby, though, near elevators to a popular rooftop bar. On our first occasion our experience was clouded by large groups of tourists (bachelorette parties) very loudly waiting for the elevators.
There is also a bar in the restaurant and on our last visit there were two couples who seemed to be intoxicated; the women were talking loudly without regard to the restaurant full of thanksgiving diners. As I looked around people at almost every table were glancing at the bar, seemingly annoyed to have these voices as the backdrop to their meals. Sadly, management did nothing to try to quiet the group.
I truly hope a way is found to create more ambiance for this fantastic chef's work.
Thanksgiving menu was fantastic.
Chris, our waiter was FANTASTIC!! Fresh flair on Charleston Cuisine beautifully decorated dining room, dishes were prepared with care and the Jazz was awesome! A lovely backdrop to a wonderful evening...we will be back!
The food was creative and tasted well. Servings were really small and prices were expensive. A lot of old people and the restaurant wasn’t full on a Friday night. If retirement is a reality or on the horizon, it might be a good spot to bust into that 401K money. Otherwise maybe not.
This restaurant was recommended by a co-worker as well as being listed on Open Table. It did not dissapoint. The service was fantastic and so was the food. A little pricey, but worth it. Our food was somewhat of a wait, so our server offered us each a free glass of wine. I was enjoying myself, so I hardly noticed that it was taking a long time. The tables are close together, which didn't bother us, and the atmosphere was romantic, if not private. Also, the live guitarist added to the ambiance. I read some reviews that it was "loud". I usually don't like loud noises, but I didn't think it was a problem.
This was our second dining experience at the Drawing Room in slightly over two weeks, and once again, the experience was first rate in every respect.
A unique atmosphere with a unique menu.
The staff goes out of their way to make your meal special.
When we arrived for our 6 PM our Wednesday evening reservation there was no one in Valet. I walked in and was hard pressed to find anyone at the hostess stand for several minutes. The dining room was empty, but let's call it early for a week night. Once we self parked we were seated without problem...they got their acts together.
The salads were fresh, local and tasty. The appetizers, Oysters Rockefeller and the Slow Cooked Octopus were both over cooked. The flavors were good. Our entree's the Low Country Pirlou and Catch of the Day were good and prepared appropriately. The dessert menu was limited so we passed. The wine list was fine. The service was forgetful but tried to please. The dining room filled by the time we left, the live music was good and the atmosphere was ok. We live locally and sadly would not rate this as a place we will make a return visit.
Service was excellent. Great idea with the art exhibit. Food, however, left a little to be desired. Lamp chops were good but my wife's fish of the day was overcooked and lacked flavor.
As usual the meal and the service were excellent and I love the room (unless I have to sit out near the elevators! The only negative was the volume of the music. While very nice it was too loud to talk with my guests. Everyone had to raise their voices to be heard thus the over all volume in the room was uncomfortable. Everything was perfect when the duo took a break.
Outstanding experience! The Restaurant was beautiful. The staff was very professional and helpful without being annoying. The food was absolutely wonderful. Meet some very nice people at restaurant and had a great conversation with them. We will be back next time we visit Charleston!
We were visiting Charleston for the weekend and I booked this for our first night, which was also my husband's birthday. The room was beautiful, not too big and there was a guitarist playing. Very romantic and civilized. The food and service were outstanding. I ordered something that I didn't realize had benne seeds on it, which the waiter told us are a local tradition. Unfortunately, they're related to sesame seeds, which I'm allergic to. They graciously made me another serving without. The food was imaginative without being too quirky, and very well executed with a beautiful presentation. My husband and I really enjoyed the evening. Not a place for children, but a great place for date night and/or a special occasion. Complimentary valet parking which is a nice touch. Would definitely visit again if back in town.
Loved that there was “an artist in residence”. Enjoyed watching a painting come to life as we enjoyed wonderful cocktails & an awesome dinner.
Great service. Will return ASAP!
We shared a main dish and salad and we had an excellent meal at a good price. We really like this restaurant.
The Drawing Room more than holds its own in a city with numerous fine dining options. The mixed seafood "purlieu" received the most accolades but the scallop entree, the duck with dirty rice and the short ribs were just excellent .
One suggestion would be more competitive wine prices. I rarely dine out without a bottle for every two people but I'm accustomed to paying $30-$40.
Service was excellent as was the menu and our particular choices. Prices were reasonable. Only complaint: Too noisy!
The space, service, and food were excellent. Well done! Our only negative, and this is the reality for a popular restaurant, is that at times the noise level was a bit loud. That stated, that will not prevent us from returning, as the noise level is only a minor inconvenience, and everything else is outstanding.
Bad food faking it as real and adventurous
No reason to waste time here!
We used to eat here when it was called the Library and were somewhat apprehensive when we learned of the change. We need not have been been. Everything was wonderful. We will definitely eat here again.
Absolutely one of my favorite place, everything was great as usually.
Charleston has so many great restaurants, but this is one of my favorites. The food is a 10. If you like beets, get the beet salad. Scallops were great and atmosphere was relaxing.
Elegant and delicious. Service is excellent. The ambience is perfect. The menu features local and in-season ingredients. Selections that even a foodie will love. Elegant setting, excellent service, and delicious food! We will be back!
Awesome place to eat! Service is great every time we are there and the food is always unbelievably excellent!
A good hotel restaurant - tables a bit squashed together . Nice music on a Saturday - two piece jazz.
Excellent steak - menu of limited length and choice - for the quality of restaurant - should be 50% greater choice
The Drawing was a great choice! We went to the bar before dinner (Sep 30th) and had some great drinks (Thanks Shannon!!!) while listening to the live light jazz music. We actually were seated after our reservations because the hostess didn't want to interrupt us while we were having a great time talking to people we met at the bar! Much appreciated! Our server Robert Tucker was great - even if he's a Ravens fan and we're Steelers fans! We had a great time ribbing each other. Robert made the meal relaxing and quite enjoyable, suggesting items on the menu and ensuring the flow of the meal was just right. The Ham on Rye was amazing!!! As was the Lowcountry Pirlou along with the presentation. A nice touch was the appetizer sampler they gave us to test out before they put it on the menu along with the complimentary limoncello to finish off the meal. The Red Velvet cake topped with vanilla ice cream and miniature chocolate chips complimented with peanut brittle was so good we had it half eaten before we remembered we wanted to take a picture of it! A great classy restaurant that we look forward to dining at again soon!
Very good experience. Food and service we're excellent.
Price point was what we expected. Great food, service, and ambiance at a reasonable price.
