Food had good flavor but my entree was lukewarm. Overpriced. Loud party by us dampened the experience

When I venture into any restaurant since Covid, I make the assumption that the service will be poor, and the food will be mediocre and over-priced...that is until I visited Draper Brother's Chophouse. The service was outstanding; our server was keenly aware of us at all times and took outstanding care of us the entire time! She was very knowledgeable of the entire menu, and made fabulous recommendations. The prices of the appetizers, entrees, sides, desserts, and drinks, although pricey, were definitely worth what we paid. The overall experience was amazing, and I would definitely recommend Draper Brothers to anyone who is celebrating a festive occasion, or just wants to enjoy an amazing meal on a Monday night!

Very nice atmosphere. Interesting and expensive remodel of an old building right on the square. I was surprised that they didn't have a selection of mocktails and n.a. beers as part of their listed beverage selections. Given how new the restaurant is and how this is one of the fastest growing categories, it would make sense to add this to their selection.

Food, drinks and service were all excellent. Prices were on the expensive side though. The ambience was a little lacking. We were not enjoying the music at all. It was 70’s/ 80’s bad pop radio. Maybe some jazz or blues would have been better. It was also pretty cold temperature wise.

Steak ordered Rare+, came back Medium Well. Daughter got lamb pasta - overcooked as well. Took an hour to get food. Probably sat under heat lamp too long. Couldn’t wait for new steak as we had show tickets. Pasta was not very good. Service was slow. Drinks not refilled (other than water). Charcuterie board was excellent. Highlight of the meal. Nice looking restaurant. People were pleasant and polite, just a poor outcome and not good food.

Third time dining at Draper brother’s. Got the wagyu tomahawk, medium rare, and requested it be served whole (not sliced). It was really good! but same as last time, it was very very rare - not medium rare. I do like rare steak so I was fine with this but I prefer a true medium rare, so it could have been better. Cheese board was impressively good and HUGE. Dessert was offered on the house since it was my birthday which was very kind. I ordered the tiramisu and I did not like it. I was expecting a traditional square slice of tiramisu, from the pan, home made Italian style. What Draper brother’s has attempted to create is a posh, elevated, stylized version of tiramisu - but it was none of those things. It really missed the mark for me. I don’t think they should advertise it as tiramisu.

The food was really disappointing. We started with ceasar salads- they had no flavor and their romaine had gone bitter. My dining partner had the dry aged ribeye, which we had never had before, but neither of us liked it - this could just be preference though. I got the draper cut. They cook more on the rare side which I liked. The cut of meat was really good. I felt like they over salted it. We got the smoked tomato risotto side, which tastes exactly like hot dog mac n cheese with ketchup. The service was fine, not great. We won't go back. There are too many steak houses that are much better for the price point. And for a lower price point there are options for steak that is very comparable with sides that are just as mediocre (tornado room).

Being the most expensive restaurant in town now, I had high expectations for Draper Bros. I was really impressed with the upstairs dining room, there was a lovely retro elegance to its design. Our server was friendly and attentive, although she seemed stretched pretty thin. I really enjoyed my dirtiest martini, from the cocktail list. My friend and I shared the smoked tomato risotto, which we both thought was delicious. We were disappointed in our main courses, though. I ordered theDraper cut, medium rare, which the server was unable to tell me whether it was wet or dry aged. The first bite I cut into was well done, but when I cut into the middle it was med rare. The end near the bone was quite rare. I got the full spectrum in one steak. My friend got the salmon and thought too much of the grey part was left on. The most disappointing part of the evening was being asked to move to the bar, right after we received our port flight and dessert, because we had just passed the 2 hour mark for a table. I work in restaurants and totally understand that when a restaurant is fully booked, tables need to turn. I feel this could have been addressed as we were ordering dessert. It’s not like we were just sitting and hanging out. Instead, we were asked to go to the bar where there was only 1 seat available, to awkwardly sip our $57 port flight. Our dessert was not brought back to us like they said it would be, when we moved, so I guess they decided for us that a bite each was enough, which is a shame, because it was delicious! The dinner ended on a very sour note, even though we’d been enjoying ourselves. I should have tried this place out earlier in the week, but I’m not likely to return or recommend it. For the price point there are restaurants in town where you can feel much more welcomed.

We had two pasta entrees. The Lamb Fettuccini was rich and delicious. The angel hair noodles with garlic and pepper was light and yummy (I forgot the name). The wine menu is small but a good value. The Lemoncello Tarte was light and quite good. Salads are not quite large enough to share but tasty. No bread for the table is a miss. Sorry, we dis not have steak but maybe next time.

The food was great especially the shrimp cocktail. Our server Sonya was Great! The hostess must have been having a bad day because she was rude and seemed annoyed when we arrived early. She didn’t smile and was actually yawning at the hostess stand. The place is very loud. The food and wait staff made up for it. Will go back again.

Excellent steaks. Delicious sides. Reasonably priced wine. Very good service. However: There are too many tables along the wall. Too tight. I couldn’t get up without forcing my dinner companion to get up and also move his chair. Awkward. Why we were sat at this table rather than one in the middle of the room is a mystery to me.

They mentioned that they are changing the menu, that would be welcomed. Too many options that are sweet for a chophouse. Also, the cooking seemed like poorly executed reheating. The pasta was perplexing, the center of the cacio and Pepe was cold. And the baked Brie wasn’t even warn.

Disappointed by food. We had rack of lamb that was nicely cooked to medium rare as requested but the accompanying polenta was cloyingly sweet and the sweetness of the pistachio mint pesto just added to that. The brocollini side was overcooked. The tiramisu dessert was bland and dry. The shrimp cocktail was okay but hard to eat as cocktail sauce was too thick to dip into so I used a fork to apply. Also I didn’t get a plate with it to have a place for the shells. Our waitress was friendly and gave good advice on wine pairing. However please don’t deliver the check with dessert—we felt like we were being rushed out the door. I’d heard good things from other diners who visited before us. Maybe we had bad luck in what we ordered. Also the menu is changing for the season which could be good.

We dined here the week after Restaurant Week. When we tried to order three different menu items, we were told they were out because of Restaurant Week. It was pretty disappointing but we pivoted nonetheless as our server was extremely apologetic. We were able to get the artichoke appetizer and it was just ok. We hadn't made it to the heart (the best part!) and the servers were taking it away. We explained why we still wanted to work on it but we really shouldn't have had to do that. We had the whitefish and scallops for our mains and ended up sending back the scallops. It had a horrible taste to them and we couldn't eat more than one. The sauce was not a great pairing, it was almost like an orange sorbet, but warm. Way too sweet. The whitefish was standard, nothing that we would seek out again. We also tried to get a bottle of wine but our server wasn't helpful in choosing one and the one we decided one, they were out of it. All in all, with so many great dining choices in Madison, we will not be returning.

They need to just pick something. The downstairs incredible, bar is beautiful and ambiance galore. Upstairs……loud packed in like sardines. Service is all over the place, food came before drinks ( I ordered wine). Steaks came out no steak knives. My steak was way over done and super salty, I never return food(no questions asked they took it off the bill). My husband had a well executed steak, but the “chicken” he added to his salad looked disgusting ( it was weird, not sliced tiny little dark meat pieces) Pasta was great no lies there. Asking way too high prices for what they bring to the table.

Ambience was nice, I bit loud in the upstairs dinning room. Service was slightly lacking as our second drink came out just as we finished our meal, waitress did not stop back to check on us until we were nearly finished with the main course. The Draper cut steak had decent flavor but due to the thickness of the cut the outside 1/3 was well done and the inside was rare. The broccolini was cold, not sure if it was meant to be chilled or not. Overall slightly disappointed in the experience both service and meal for the price.

Delicious, perfectly prepared steaks. Ambiance and service were both great. Salmon entree was quite dry (perhaps due to the breading on the fish?) and the beet salad is severely lacking in beets, but features a huge portion of buratta. Our dessert selections weren’t noteworthy. Wine list is robust, but the quality wines (would prefer to see more Napa Valley choices) are marked up big time. As you’d expect, prepare to spend at least $100 a person for a meal. The upstairs dining room is very loud, but beautiful. We will go back, but it’s not likely going to become a “go to”.

Food: Everything we ordered was delicious. The appetizers were proportioned well, and shortly after we finished our apps, our entree came out. The filet was one of the best I've ever had--I could tell it was tender the minute my knife touched it. The demi-glace added a richness to the meat, and the mashed potatoes were the perfect amount of creamy and garlicky. The deserts were perfectly crafted and complimented the meal very well. Service: Excellent. Everyone one was sharply dressed, attentive, and knowledgeable. If there were any questions, the server knew the answer right away. You could tell they knew the menu well. Ambiance: Compared to other restaurants, it was a little loud. I felt like everyone had to talk over the table next to them, which made it difficult for me and my guest to have our own conversation, but once the food came, there wasn't a need to talk. We did also go at a busy time--every table in our area was full. t does offer a great view of the capital, if you were lucky enough top be seated near a window that looked towards it. The lighting was also elegant and it set the romantic mood well.

Stumbled upon this new restaurant during restaurant week and it was fantastic. We will be back for their regular menu. We can’t wait to show this little gem off to our family and friends.

We were excited to try a new, local place. The setting/ambience was nice…speak easy feel with nice decor. Unfortunately, our excitement turned to disappointment by a terrible representation of "restaurant week" pricing. The menu read choice for $50 and listed "up charges" for another price for certain items...turns out they were charging $114 for a light app, steak, and dessert. After talking with the manager to understand the charges, the manager tried to make it right by adjusting the receipt by removing our appetizer and a drink. The second disappointment came when the steak didn’t come at the temperature ordered. By the time they corrected it and brought it back everyone else had finished their entree. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any worse, a manager came over to let us know he we had exceeded our time and he needed us to leave because he needed the table.... Wow, we've never spent over $450 on a dinner special only to be told it was time to go. Would have loved to return but can't.
