Drakes Sonoma Coast
Our beverage program is headed by Sonoma County native Director of Food and Beverage Bill Govan who has longstanding associations with many in the local food, wine and farming communities. We have a full bar and offer wonderful local non-alcoholic options as well. Our wine list features almost exclusively Sonoma County wines and beers as we love to support our neighbors who help make Sonoma County the Tuscany or Provence of America.
So disappointed that menu was changed. No pork shop. No gnocci the way it used to be made and Jeffs chocoalate cake and the other wonderful homemade desserts are GONE! So sad. Gnocci was good but nowhere as near as good as the one that they used to make. Fish special was wonderful and plentiful according to my husband. Salad was regular green salad and was just mediocre. The ceasar is better.
I say gring back the old menu items PLEASE??
Great food as usual but big fail on the 1/2 full martini and a Manhattan that was undrinkable.
Oh my goodness, how disappointing! This restaurant had great reviews and was recommended to us by many. First of all, upon arriving, we noticed it smelled like open sewer. When we asked the hostess and wait staff they claimed they couldn't smell anything. We decided to push past the smell as the ambiance was nice and we held out hope for the food. The hostess was as dry, boring and blah as could be. Our waiter was totally unattentive. But, worst of all, was the food. $43 for a NY strip and $51 for a filet mignon. The NY was tough as leather and both dishes were bland and tasteless. Served with some boring carrots and potatoes. I kept taking bites expecting something would change, but then realized nothing was going to change and left nearly the whole steak on my plate. The waiter took my plate without asking if the food was okay, or whether I needed a box, nothing! I never complain, but I asked to speak to a manager about our experience. She was very receptive and apologetic and let us know that the smell was from a water treatment facility nearby (we weren't imagining the smell!) After leaving me waiting with the hostess for a very long time, she took the food off our bill. When we recounted our experience to others familiar with Drakes, they reassured us that this was just an "off" day that perhaps after the holidays they didn't have their "regular" staff. Whatever the reason, never again.
So glad we decided to eat here. Had the oysters which were small but tasty. Our meals were amazing. I had the sea bass special and the mister had the lamb chops. So perfectly cooked. Not a fan of lamb but the shared bites I was given even I could not help but love.
We enjoyed our dinner. The table service was very pleasant however the delivery was very, very, very slow. Perhaps the staff was short that evening.
45 minute wait on dessert. Our table was located adjacent to secondary exit, which opened to outside weather constantly. At meals end, was presented another table's bill that exceeded ours by close to $100. Very disappointing experience.
Perfect ambiance and location; terrible food. Two people with bottle of wine, no appetizer, spent almost $400. Small portions except for prime rib. Servers tried hard. Cooks aren't really chef caliber in my opinion. Rip off on Xmas pre-fix menu. Best (only) thing going for it is the decor and location.
At the end of dinner (took them forever to get us our meal), we wanted to split the bill. One and half hour later, they finally figured it out. Apparently, they blamed it on the computer. We gave them 2 cards and cash. Total to exceed the bill by $100.00. They came back and said we owed them more money. I will never go back there again.
We were most disappointed with the food. It was very expensive and had little sauce or flavor. Both the duck and the lamb were boring and bland. We had hoped to find a new favorite right in Bodega Bay, but The Girl and the Fig in Sonoma remains the hands down winner for great food and lovely ambiance.
Beautiful setting. Delicious food. We had soup, salad, and dessert. All were great. It's a bit expensive, but we didn't mind at all, since it was such a great experience. We'll definitely go back again when in Bodega Bay.
We celebrated a Friends Birthday and everything was great. The food, the service and the ambiance all excellent.
We enjoyed the brick chicken and the salmon. Both were outstanding and the serving staff were very attentive but to the right degree. The Panna cotta was an excellent choice for dessert.
Very fresh scallops well seasoned but not overpowering.
smashed potatoes and vegetables cooked just to perfection.
The brick chicken was praised by another of our diners.
We had a meal at a Michelin starred restaurant the previous night,
But this meal was vote much better by everyone.
Good view over the sea, pleasant room with cosy fire, staff were
attentive without being overbearing.
Will visit again.
My husband and myself enjoy it so very much and we even met a very nice couple who we went out to the fire pit and had drinks with!!
Fantastic food and setting on Thanksgiving 2018!!! Food service was nice and attentive.
We had Thanksgiving dinner here. It was quite expensive ($68/person, not including drinks), and although the salad and appetizer and pecan pie were good the turkey was dry, dark meat shredded and gravy and mashed potatoes and green beans not very good. The cranberry relish was way too tart. I would not recommend Drakes for a holiday meal.
Just an overall great experience. Ambiance was nice however later in the evening started to get a bit loud.
Been here twice before just for drinks and bar food so we were excited to have a full meal (dinner). Sadly we were dissapointed. We wanted to like it as the space is great and we did like the drinks--bar program is good. Oysters are fantastic too--but the main food left much to be desired. Gnocchi was average and my fish special dry. On top of it, it took an hour for our food to come--everything was backed up according to our poor waitress who kept apologizing. She was sweet to give us a free drink at least. We would give it one more chance--hoping they fix what's going on in the kitchen!
Always a treat. Wonderful view with wonderful food. It was really busy this time so it was quite noisy, but that is not always the case. The food is so good - creative, inventive and beautifully presented. We started with the lamb stuffed pepper appetizer, which we both liked very much - fantastic sauce and not spicy. We followed with the squash soup which was nice but a bit bland. For our entree, we had the special - black cod over polenta which was amazing! Honestly some of the best fish that I have ever had. Our server was friendly as well. It was a such very nice evening out.
We have eaten at Drakes before as we love the Bodega Bay Lodge. The food was never any good but they just revamped it so we hoped for the best. Very very disappointing. My wild salmon was fried to the point that it was totally dry. The brussel spouts were uneatable. I complained and the charge was removed from my bill which was only fair, My wife had the surf and turf and it was just ok. Save your money and go to another restaurant. It is a real shame as the motel is great, the ambiance of the restaurant is spectacular but the food is terrible.
We really enjoyed Drake’s and will return! Wonderful food and atmosphere...it’s especially perfect if you’re staying at Bodega Bay Lodge!
Dinner was not very good. Crab cakes were loaded with mayo and filler, not my style, flatbread was okay, scallops uninspiring. Wine list was not really to our liking either, maybe expand beyond Sonoma Valley?
We love Drakes and make it a point to experience one breakfast and one dinner while staying at the Bodega Bay Lodge. The food is excellent! My only issue with this visit was the quantity of food with my dinner entree. I ordered the duck breast and was told it would be medium rare, perfect. It was over medium which tended to dry it out a bit. Not on my radar to order again. Also the pureed sweet potato was more of a teaspoon full that was smeared on the plate for color rather than a side meant to eat. Truly disappointed by that. The atmosphere is romantic, daytime views are perfect, service attentive. We will be back, but I won't be ordering the duck anytime soon.
Above average food. However, salad greens were underdressed and bland. Meyer Lemon dessert cake was lacking much lemon flavor at all.
Pricey food that’s frankly not very good. The steak was ok my wife’s chicken was very salty. Many restaurants at 1/3 price are better. Service was ok. The waitress didn’t tell us all the specials and we were disappointed later when a neighboring table ordered specials we were unaware of. The value of the meal is for the location, not the food or service.
We went to Drake's Sonoma Coast to celebrate our anniversary and the meal, service and ambiance was so superb that...we immediately booked a table for our second night (stayed at Bodega Bay Lodge). We enjoyed exquisitely fresh raw oysters, ground lamb stuffed piquillo peppers, and perfectly cooked filet and scallops. It was so delicious we ordered the exact same thing the second night. Austin was our server and he did such a stellar job that we insisted on getting the Manager's contact information so we could share the news. Chris, the Manager, stopped by our table the second night and was very appreciative of our comments. 5 Star dining with a great view!
Food for exceptional with great presentation. We had the scallops, halibut and steak. Service was excellent. It is a very nice atmosphere. Was surprised it was as loud as it was in such a nice place
Austin our waiter was amazing! Jen and Brian always make sure everything is fabulous! Amazing dinner as usual!!!!!
Always wonderful food and presentation delivered by friendly and attentive wait staff! We particularly enjoyed our recent dinner (steak and chicken entrees) and , of course, breakfast is always a special highlight.
Very nice place. Reservations don't mean much though. Had to wait almost an hour after our reservation time but the bar is a nice area to wait and relax before dinner.
My vegan wife was treated especially well by our vegan server. the Surf and Turf was pefectly cooked and super delish! Best meal we had in Northern Cali.
We decided to check this place out because it was right across from our room we were staying in. Nice dining room and the server was friendly. The hostess was extremely awkward and couldn't understand a word she said. Food was good but our chicken and sea bass were overcooked. The chocolate cake was amazing it was super moist and went well with the caramel sauce. Cocktails tasted great and the fire lounge was great outside for after dinner and a drink. Overall it was good but not worth the price in our opinion.
This is a great spot for a nice meal with your special someone or with family and friends. The food is very creatively prepared and presented. Inspired specials. Just go!
It was alright
Lovely service, nice views, creative and beautifully presented dishes. Decent wine list. Desserts are on the small side..hubbs was disappointed with small peach dessert.
We went to Drake's to celebrate our second wedding anniversary, and we could not have picked a more romantic spot! The food was amazing and we especially loved their dessert selections. A gem!
We have dined at Drakes many times, but this time members of our family were served undercooked steaks. Sent back, but came back almost the same way. They adjusted our bill accordingly. Otherwise, always been outstanding.
Definitely a mixed experience. After being seated we were completely ignored for more than 10 minutes, when I finally asked if we had a server. We were told he was busy. Then, a different server appeared. She was great but why did we have to ask? Also while we had expected it to be quiet based on the Open Table reviews and general nature of the property, it was anything but. The restaurant had two tables of lively kids and there was another table in the center of the room with ten 20-somethings drinking quite a bit. We ate in town the other nights and had good food and better service for less money.
please update your menu on the web. We went to your restaurant thinking we could dine on some of the dishes featured on the web. We had late reservations and were not only disappointed we would not be able to dine on what we had anticipated but did not have much of a choice that late in the evening. I also want to mention the noise level was extreme.
The food was lovely and the room has a very nice view for nearly all the seating but on the night we were there, they were pretty understaffed. It seemed like the entire place was being taken car of by one server and two bussers only. Our server was very nice and knew her stuff but she was really stretched thin.
