I truly enjoyed my time celebrating a friends' birthday at Drake Commissary, as did the birthday girl.
We were greeted w/ scones and spread and it was mentioned that it would not be added to our bill.
We thoroughly enjoyed the fresh bread and hummus we ordered, as well as our personal dishes.
I truly appreciate that you offer Cashew Milk as a dairy alternative, as Soy/Almond (also offered) are the most common, however, I cannot personally participate in either. This allowed me to enjoy a Cashew Milk Latte w/ my brunch.
The menu wasn't the most vegan friendly, however, I really enjoyed the Beans dish (I'm a dairy free vegetarian) and my request for no cheese was accommodated without any hassle.
Our servers were wonderful and we stayed for 2+ hours catching up; we were treated well and our waters refilled. When we apologized for staying, our server was so kind in saying to please stay and enjoy (the restaurant had emptied in our section) and that she was happy to have our company there. Each member who served our table was pleasant, kind and personable. I had to return my latte originally as it was cold and the server was so sweet and didn't make me uncomfortable for the request.
This wasn't my first time at Drake Commissary and I would definitely return, especially if the menu gets a few vegan friendly updates!
Loved it for brunch, only thing lacking was some food items my kids would like .. they were very accommodating to put together something for them but a small kids menu with more basic options could be great!
Amazing vibe, great food, fantastic service, a perfect place for a weekend brunch!
Server was terrible... took forever to do anything and we asked for the bill 3 times
Decor and service impeccable. Worth the trip just for the atmosphere. First half of the menu is spot on. Breads dips and plates. Mains leave something to be desired. Except the brisket *drool*
The wait staff could do with a little training. They do not keep an eye on their customers and I experienced waits longer than necessary. I had to get up and ask for hot sauce after a particularly long wait.
For elderly people we found the sound hard to cope with. We could not carry on a conversation with our friends.
We arrived with two young kids, and were received with friendly smiles. Our onion soups, brisket sandwiches were delicious, well matched with a beautiful green salad, and the kids devoured their spaghetti and meatballs. The food was prepared with great care and expertise, judging by the flavours.
We’ll be back.
Breakfast sandwich was only OK. Next time, I’ll pick something else. Ordered a cinnamon bun last time and it was amazing. Will return, just won’t order the breakfast sandwich (or brisket sandwich, which my girlfriend had, also not to my taste.
Sticker shock for lunch of two soups, bread and two teas. Otherwise a lovely place.
Despite the fact that the room was almost empty, our party of 5 was served very slowly. To make matters worse, two of us were served our main course half an hour before the other main courses were served. The food was ok, but not worth another trip back.
Great experience! We went with our baby so were happy to see there were highchairs and we were seated in a booth which was nice when our baby became antsy.
Great place for brunch next to MOCA. It was our first time here. Service was great. Would definitely come back.
We went for brunch. Great food, super attentive and friendly staff. We'll go back.
Very comfortable space. Pleasant staff. Food was not impressive for the most part. The home made bread was fabulous, but dishes after that were hit or miss. Brussel sprouts were good, charred cabbage was not. Cabbage roll was just awful. Brisket was OK. Everything just seemed over cooked. Maybe a nice place for a drink but wouldn't recommend for dinner.
Love it here! Great atmosphere, food and coffee. I bit pricey but worth it.
We had the most incredible & delicious dinner! He had never been there before and we both ‘ooohed’ & ‘aaahed’ over the incredible decor and scrumptious food. To top it all off, the incredible server (can’t remember her name now) saw us shopping after dinner for some take-home pate (our of this world, by the way!!!) and she offered us a tour of the kitchen & charcuterie fridge. What a thrill it was for 2 foodies like us. Thank you, Drake Commissary. You are my favourite location, but all of your properties are incredible. Keep up the inspiring work!!!! 😊
Such a fun place. The only reason I couldn't do 5 stars across the board was the noise level. Very active room with so many hard surfaces made the noise unbelievable! Some sound baffling in the ceiling will do the trick. But awesome place, great food, excellent service, wonderful artwork.
We found the service very slow and ambivalent attitude. We had finished a bottle of wine before they took our dinner order. We had to ask for service every time we wanted something- ie pepper, more wine, the bill.
Food was delicious and service was great. Only complaint is that this is a very noisy restaurant.
food was good and fairly priced but was a bit slow to come out. Service was good but not especially attentive.
We thoroughly enjoyed our brunch for my 91 year old father. He & his 88 year old sister loved the food & our server made them feel like guests of honor.
Staff terrific, that’s the server and the bartender, the server was quite pleasant made recommendations and was reasonably attentive, given the place was busy. , the bartender actually came over and suggested wines.
The breads, pate and brisket all excellent choices, the wines and cocktails all good. The only reasons I did not rate a 5 was 1) no Prosecco, at least one Prosecco should be on the menu, please consider. They had I believe a Spanish type of sparkling wine, but I do not recommend and 2) very small tasteless olives, with very little meat thus unable for the marinade to be absorbed, chef needs to rethink their supplier. Overall a good experience and I recommend .
the physical space is very welcoming and artfully decorated with contemporary art pieces. It appears the management is very supportive of the arts. Everything had a simple but bespoke look from the banquettes to table tops to the menu design.
The staff was very obliging and made suggestions to satisfy our tastes and appetites. Each member was delightful and friendly.
The food was delicious, well presented and delivered in good time.
All in all a very satisfactory experience again. And my guest, a first timer, is looking forward to a return visit with friends.
Food very average and overpriced. Service a hit and miss. This visit was great. Had an awful server a few weeks ago (major attitude). Only a minor delay this time w serving us.
An eclectic and interesting menu in an interesting location and eclectic ambiance. All very much in the Drake philosophy. If you like the Drake you won’t be disappointed. We went for brunch. If you are looking for a traditional brunch menu this isn’t it (ie bacon and eggs etc) The food is excellent though. Right next door to Museum of Contemporary Art so a great place to start or finish a visit there.
Great place for an event.
Food was subpar, definitely not good enough to overshadow our waitress who had an attitude, didn't write any of our orders down and consequently got my son's juice order wrong and forgot an item she tried to pass off as "on it's way" when it was clear it was forgotten, avocado toast doesn't take that long to make. She then caught a snarky attitude when we questioned her about it. Her vibe was terrible and unwelcoming. We probably won't be back any time soon.
Service was beyond slow. No attention to the table. 10+ mins to even get our coffee :(
It wasn’t very busy at 11am but they didn’t want to open any further sections which increased the lack of privacy. We were sitting very closely
We started coming here in the summer as there are options for different dietary requirements and it pleases my kids and parents too! My one concern is that for vegetarians at brunch there is not much in terms of protein. I absolutely LOVED the FRITTATA and then the TORTILLA and I DETEST eggs but they were such great vegetarian AND GF options! Bring them back PLEASE!! As always our servers were over the top awesomely attentive, and Drake, thanks for making my kids feel welcome too!
Overall the food is passable - nothing spectacular. Portions are miniscule and there is little value for money. Where this restaurant really falls short is the service level. Our server was noticeably unpleasant with frowns and requisite eye rolling when we asked for more time with the menu. Its proximity to the Museum of Contemporary Art may be this restaurant's only saving grace.
Enjoyed it the first time I went, but brunch last weekend was a disappointment. New menu was not as interesting, the restaurant was hot and really loud and the service (both front counter and table) were condescending and borderline rude.
Drake Commissary is in a weird spot and it took us a while to find the door. Inside is hip retro tech, a cute look. Wait staff were attentive and helpful, service was great and food was really good. The bread and butter are expensive but delicious, duck liver pate outstanding, duck soup was great, paparadelle with walnuts and bitter greens was delicious, drinks were large and tasty. Prices were moderate. But the noise level was really obnoxious. Designed to be loud and then loud music on top, we were shouting at each other to be heard all night. Decided to go elsewhere for dessert because it was just not pleasant sitting there. Wouldn't recommend and won't be back, simply because we like to talk when we eat and you can't do that at D.C. A shame -- we liked it a lot otherwise.
I’ve been here 3 or 4 times and always been disappointed. The design is fantastic & the breads are great, the employees are friendly & the service is fine, however the food is not great. We both had the egg sandwich on Sunday and they tasted like they were cooked the day before. The eggs were cold & the tomato onion spread was overpowering. The juices were great & our waitress was super friendly, but we won’t be back.
Good except the kids running around
Nice ambience but expected better food selection, I would go once again to try a different day. Service was slow.
We went to the Drake Commissary for our anniversary dinner with our 13 and 15 yr old. Everything from the food, drinks, ambiance, and service was top notch. The Brisket melted in your mouth and the food was evidently very high quality and sourced locally. DJ was mixing great but non-intrusive music that gave a hip vibe. ONLY thing that could have gone wrong was we were originally seated on the cafe side of the Commissary (my fault, I requested a booth) For a nice dinner, please be sure you sit on the more formal side- much more creative, beautiful decor and worthy of the not inexpensive meal.
Our other experience at the Commissary was on a stop off the bike path that runs by the Drake- great patio, fish board, and beer; so all round we love the Drake commissary, a much-needed addition to what can be sparse quality in the neighborhood
I was disappointed with the Drake Commissary. I had been there about 6 months previously, and the menu had not changed - still somewhat eclectic and limited...and items such as a tuna salad did not clarify that the tuna was raw - there are definitely some people that would prefer to avoid that. Service was remarkably slow for lunch, when people have to get back to work. Some bread and dip, and a main course took over 90 minutes. No wine, no dessert, no coffee - no time.
Great experience. Great staff. Great food.
