DRAKE Ratings and Reviews
Everything was so delicious! The cauliflower, the burger, the pork chop, and the cocktails were all executed perfectly. The butterscotch pudding though might have been my favorite. Fresh real whipped cream that was barely sweetened topped the incredibly decadent, slightly burnt sugar/caramel silken body of pudding. On top of the delicate fluffy cream were bits of candied pecans to make for the perfect textural contrast in each bite. The richness was just over the line to be naughty and so amazing! No snack-pack pudding here!!
A group had showed up late to their reservation therefore pushing ours back a bit. The staff was very accommodating and apologetic, the owner even came over to apologize for the reservation mess up. They also comped a few things off of our bill. The service was great and the food is amazing!
The food is always sublime, especially the vegetables. The grilled kale salad was perfect, unusual, complex and delicious. My waiter was a bit glum and not so wArm or on top of it, but they seemed short staffed. Still always my top pick when traveling to Bend
This was our first time at Drake, and we were not disappointed. The food is very well prepared, and very rich. My husband and I each took half of our dinners home. Gastro-pub meets diner, in a vibrant part of downtown Bend. This location has been many other less-than-notorious eateries, so for locals who haven't been to Drake, give them a chance. Recommend getting an early reservation as it fills up fast. Great happy hour food from 3-5.
We visit Bend a few times a year and Drake is always on our list of must-eat-places. We prefer to sit at the bar, as the tables can get noisy. Food is great; we haven't had anything we didn't like. Our only disappointment this time is that the kitchen seemed to lose our order. We waited more than half an hour for our entrees to arrive after we finished our salads. We expected there might be a little compensation on the bill, but nothing was offered. Didn't want to make a big deal of it as this was a business dinner.
We dine at Drake frequently but this evening was pretty disappointing. Wait time after ordering was too long. Our waitress left mid dinner. Second waiter was more attentive but we continued to wait for our food. My husband ordered the NY steak but he didn't care for the whole thing being covered with a load of Brussels sprouts.
This was, TRULY, one of the worse restaurant experiences I have EVER hard. The food was abysmal: over-spiced, oily, fried, disgusting. Their idea of "fusion" ruins the best parts of each cultural influence. DO NOT GO HERE. Truly: anywhere but here. Good God.
After brouseing the web for a nice place to eat in Bend, Drake was on top of our list so we made a reservation (highly recommend on the weekend.) I ordered the Lamb serloin which I was a tad reluctant to do. Lamb can be a favorite of mine but often too gamey for my taste. It was a gamble that turned out very much in my favor. It was delicate and delightful very nicely done. I also really liked the seasoned popcorn they brought to nibble on at the table and they make great cocktails with fresh citrus and ingredients. The only down side of Drake was how LOUD it was. I gave up on talking/shouting at my husband across the table. We were in town for a wedding and was hoping to have a romantic night out our selves.
The restaurant has a nice ambiance...light, but warm. Service was formal, not stuffy, and friendly. The food preparation was very nice. Great lettuce avocado salad with fresh greens...great! Pork chop, scalloped potatoes, stuffing, filet, flavorful mix of vegetables, good wine, good scotch (ran out of my favorite), and generally a nice, delicious, comfortable dinner.
We found the Drake expensive ($240+ before the tip for a party of four) but we will consider going back the next time we're in Bend. I had the NY Strip special. I'm from Connecticut and the steak sure didn't look like the NY Strip I've been eating for 60+ years. It was cooked a perfect medium-rare, but it was chewy probably due to the grass fed lean beef the folks eat around here. I should have known better. That's my only complaint about the food...everyone enjoyed their meals. I felt the wine and alcohol were really overpriced, but again, we all enjoyed it. We should have paid more attention to the prices or asked.
