Downtowner Woodfire Grill Ratings and Reviews
We were caught in traffic and called to let them know we would not make our reservation but they were able to save our table for us ! Not many restaurants will go out of their way to save your reservation even when you’re late.
The food is always delicious; we had the steak kebab with basmati rice and vegetables and the steak was deliciously seasoned. Also they have ice cream after dinner drinks so fun to go back in time and have a grasshopper ! Some of you may remember those .
We were headed to a Wild game. Wanted more than a sports bar, but no need for full on evening dining. Though the Woodfire would be a great date night, as the decor shows it is not a sports bar. Our server was wonderful, attentive without smothering. The food was delicious and hot when it reached the table.
We saw sports attendees, business dinners and a few happy hour gatherings. Really a nice discovery.
We started out with a great evening, but unfortunately a large and extremely noisy group came later. Half way through our dinner, a large group with a number of loud, young children arrived and it became difficult for the three of us to have a conversation. The manager was very good, offered to let us move but at that time we were almost finished with our meal. He then offered to give us each a free dessert and his very sincere apology for the noise level.
We do intend to go back again because the food is wonderful!
We chose the Downtowner Woodfire Grill for lunch with relatives we had not seen for a long time because we knew the food was good, but even more because the atmosphere was casual, quiet, and not pushy. We were able to talk and laugh and enjoy their wonderful food and had an overall wonderful time. The menu has good choices for all, and the great fireplace and aromas of great food make it a very appealing place.
We were looking forward to trying the Downtowner after many positive reviews. Unfortunately, it was not a place any of us will return to. Three of the six of us had halibut and salmon which were overcooked and very dry. The Basmati rice and mashed potatoes on the side were also very dry. The only good thing on the plates were the carrots but those are hardly worth the $30+ price tag. The other three in our group had pork chops and lamb with marginal results. The ambience here is nice but not as cozy as we thought it would be. The location is great and it's a good spot to go with a group; however, I would not return. There are plenty of other good spots with much better food. Disappointed!
The Downtowner has a cozy atmosphere. The decor is very comfortable. Our service was great. We were were there to eat before heading to a MN Wild game. The food was delicious. I highly recommend their kabobs. They marinate the meat before cooking. Very tasty! Everyone in our party of four enjoyed their food and said they would return to this restaurant.
We hadn't been to the Downtowner in years. We forgot how much we used to love this restaurant! It will be on our regular rotation from now on. The calamari appetizer is a must. The beef kabobs are delicious as is the apple-pear crisp. Service was accommodating to our kids and friendly!
We have been to Downtowner many times and have always loved the ambiance and the food. This time, the food was pretty disappointing. If we had not been with friends that we don't know well, both my husband and I would have complained and sent food back. My husbands scallops (a special) were excellent, but served with cold vegetables and cold potatoes. My halibut (also a special) was overcooked and while my food was all warm, it was flavorless and dry. Too bad. Good service and a warm and cozy spot for dinner, but the food was a disappointment this time around.
Met with friends before a Wild game. Food was excellent! Wait staff was slow getting our order out.
We waited for our check and ended up late to the game. Still enjoy the restaurant 95% of the time.
This was not our usual experience and we'll continue to visit on a regular basis.
the food was very well cooked and all, but the rice to meat/veggie ratio for the kabob's was a bit too skewed toward the rice for the value and my liking. but again, the food was very good. the cheesecake for dessert was also delicious. waitstaff and maitre d were also very pleasant.
Excellent location for dinner before a show at the Ordway. I highly recommend the chicken dinner with mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. It was one of the best I've ever had! I also recommend the pizza with apple on it. The chocolate lava cake topped off dinner perfectly.
Food was not as expected from the description on the menu. I had the buffalo shrimp dinner and it definitely wasn't a buffalo sauce. It was more of a peppery tomato sauce, which was good, but not buffalo. I think that the portion of rice should be halved, and double the amount of vegetables. Otherwise it was good.
