"****" - Kathie Jenkins - Saint Paul Pioneer Press
Downtowner Woodfire Grill specializes in Persian fire roasted meats, grilled steaks and chops, and gourmet wood-fired pizzas. The atmosphere is warm & lively offering 2 fireplaces, a full bar with 3 fountains and live jazz. The restaurant offers free parking with convenience to both the Xcel Energy Center & Ordway Theater. Downtowner Woodfire Grill also provides a full menu for breakfast & lunch, and a children's menu. This cozy restaurant serves a great plate as well as provides an experience to savor.
We have been to the Woodier Grill in the passband were joined by two long time friends who are new to the Twin Cities. The setting was just perfect for a pre-holiday gathering to catch up and talk. The tables/booths are well spaced so you are not listening to the nearby conversations. The well done acoustics allowed for easy listening unencumbered by loud music and surrounding voices; a perfect setting for conversation. The physical setting is warm and beautiful and tastefully decorated. The fireplace, although gas, added a visual warmth to the room. Our server was delightful, knew the menu well and answered all questions well. She was very attentive but not overbearing. From the moment she greeted us with a welcoming smile until we left, we felt like she was "our" server. Now the food! The four of us had meals from different sections of the menu and all were delightfully presented and delicious. The wine & beer selections were great and the cocktails were delicious! In short it was delightful evening and we will return.
Wonderful evening. Requested a booth due to hearing issues and was able to accommodate me. Food was wonderful and enjoyed my Old fashioned cocktail.
Have an after-dinner Snickers martini at the bar with Jackie. Delicious!
Excellent meal in a relaxing atmosphere. A great menu and fabulous service. The steaks were slightly over cooked but they were a good cut and the manager apologized and gave us dessert at N/C. I would go there again.
We weren’t wowed by the dinners we had. Amish Chicken was very dry, overcooked, and the meat portion on a pulled beef sandwich was under 4 ounces of meat. We were disappointed as we were expecting much better.
Major disappointment. Service was horrible. Given breakfast menus at lunch time, waited 20 minutes for server to engage. By the time we got our menus switched and order in, we’d been seated for nearly an hour. Ordered ranch to accompany meal, didn’t arrive. Requested it separately. Had to ask a second time and by the time it arrived, meal was cold. Food okay but not worth the price. Go to Parlour!
Excellent meal and service, as always. David did a terrific job.
We take my 94-year-old cousin here because it’s warm and cozy. We love the food too!
The food was delicious as it always is. We were happy that our table of 5 was seated at a round table so we could enjoy conversation with each other. Space around the tables is generous so you never feel like you are forced to hear conversations at neighboring tables. The restaurant was much busier than usual on a Sunday early afternoon, due to the Wild game. Wait staff seemed stretched a bit thin, and one of our party received someone else’s meal although he did not realize it soon enough to return it. (Bacon instead of sausage, blueberry stuffed pancakes instead of plain pancakes, and a third error that I can’t remember.) But it’s hard to complain about blueberries and bacon so he muddled through. Overall one of our favorite brunch places with an interesting menu, good service and well-prepared food.
Food and service were great. First time here and would definitely go back again. The GF pizza was delicious!
Fabulous food, good value, nice service and pleasant atmosphere - and parking too! Downtowner continues to be a favorite!!!
Always love it!!! Moe's Cajun Breakfast is the breakfast I dream of in Arizona. The atmosphere of this restaurant is cozy and quaint, but you have plenty of elbow room. Great place to meet friends and family. Can't wait hour my next visit.
Disappointing dinner. We had a nice round table for nine of us. My wife started with the muscles and they were very fishy tasting. After we finished our salads they decided to serve us bread. Would’ve been nice to have had it with our salad or during appetizers. Took 20 minutes to get one cocktail refilled. The dinner was good but not great. Most of us had a skewer and it was just ok. Lastly had Creme brûlée and should’ve just passed on dessert. The chocolate torte was great but the brûlée was burnt and very thick sugar top. Our service was horrible. Really to bad because the location and atmosphere was great.
Great food and service. Had a variety of food and drinks. All were great.
The food and service were good. The menu could have a few more options. We went before a Wild game, and it was a good change of atmosphere from the loud bar crowd. There were a lot of wait staff just standing around.. which felt a little awkward like they were all watching you, but were all really friendly!
Food and service outstanding, as always. Jackie is super!
Our food was not as good as it has been in the past. Good service but food disappointing. Steak was tough and swordfish was dry as well. Not sure I will rush back by any means.
Great meal and service
A nicely varied menu. Everyone was able to find something they liked. Cozy environment.
The menu had a great variety. A bit pricey. Service could be faster, but good overall.
Love the setting, low noise level, menu selections, parking availability — just everything more than always meets our expectations! Food & drinks are always great!
No “ Woodfire” real flavor. Presentation crappy, butter soaked rice crappy. Guacamole really good tho. Server in major hurry. Nice place tho
Great! Food, service great. Nice table by fire place. Best atmosphere. Very nice evening.
One of the nicest reataurants in the area. Parking lot next door. Nice decor.
I have been to the Downtowner a few times recently for brunch and dinner. The food is consistently very good and the service is great. Love the atmosphere too. Highly recommend it.
Haven’t been there in quite awhile. Was quite surprised how much things had changed from our last visit. Food was outstanding; prices and portions a good value; our server was superb and ambiance was great!
Love this place!! Such a neat atmosphere and the service was outstanding! Food is excellent!
We made a reservation but still got stuck by the kitchen when other, better tables were available. Food was ok but nothing memorable. The staff did a very fine job. First time to be there, and probably the last.
Great Food friendly service truly a enjoyable place to have a relaxing evening .
We love your food, your staff and MOE!!!!!!! (:
Our waiter was super and made a GREAT Cosmo as well!!
Lamb Chops and Caesar salad were fabulous. Pinot Noir was a very nice selection. Friendly place and smells great when you walk in.
We were celebrating a birthday. The service was very good and the food was exceptional!
Cool to see the proprietor working there during brunch and making sure everything is just right. Well run operation.
Never let us down in 30-40 years, ever since Moe was cooking over the grill himself in the tiny first place.
This place has consistently amazing service and great breakfast food! They take large party reservations as well, so it’s become a staple for our family get togethers.
Consistently a great experience. One of my favorite go-to places!
I have been to Woodfire Grill before for breakfast and loved it. This time it was for lunch and the meatloaf special was delicious. Service was friendly and prompt. Will be back.
Excellent restaurant in all aspects … Highly recommended
Food excellent as always. The shrimp, Calamari, veggie appetizer was particularly delicious.
