My husband took me here for Valentine's Day and it was amazing. My husband ordered the Lamb chops well done and it was done perfect and not dry. I ordered scallops and a filet. We will definitely be returning. Great ambiance. Perfect for a date.
We love the Downtowner! Cozy, great food, excellent service.
We had a wonderful time, great experience!
We had our Valentine’s Day dinner here and it was absolutely amazing. We were seating in the smaller dining room right by the fire. Our server was fabulous, he was very nice, funny, and timely. We both ordered pizza for dinner and it was delicious! The creme brûlée for dessert was tasty as well.
Wide selection. Food was very flavorful. Nice location for Xcel and Ordway
We ordered the valentine special surf and turf. It was delivered in a timely manner, with a beautiful presentation. The steak and scallops were grilled to perfection with a delicious balsamic reduction. The service was excellent, wine a very good accompaniment and dessert that was as tasty as it was beautiful. The restaurant was warm and inviting. You could hear your dinner partner because the noise level was low. Overall our valentine meal was delightful.
Quick service before we went to a Wild game. Great food!
Our server was great. The food was very good. The only complaint I have is it was chilly. We were near the door on a cold night and could feel the breeze everytime the door opened. Otherwise, great first time experience. We will be back!
My spouse and I had reservations. We arrived on time and were seated in an area we had requested. I ordered soup, we had entrees, and shared a dessert. Our bill with tax and tip came to $109. The food tasted good, the restaurant is very nice, and the noise level was tolerable. My only criticism is that our food was not very hot. It was more like lukewarm. Even the soup was not hot. Later, I went to the restroom and walked by the kitchen. I noticed that there were several plates sitting out on the counter to be picked up by servers and they were not under heat lamps. I figured this is how the food is not hot when it is delivered. I like the Downtowner. They were busy on this night, but it was before 6:00 p.m. so it was not swamped. I hope this does not happen on a regular basis. Next time we will complain and ask for the food to be reheated, but we hate to do this as when it comes back many times it is not the same. My experience at other restaurants is that then the steak is well done and it just isn't as good. I hope they watch this closely and perhaps they could use an expediter to get servers to pick up food while it is still hot? I will be curious to see if others have experienced the same and what they do when it happens?
Had a great dinner. Highly recommend the lamb chops. 4 chops really is on 2 bones each piece but is a good portion. If you are real hungry get the 6 chops for another $5. My wife had the filet. Both had great wood fire flavor but not over powering.
The staff were friendly and a great first impression however our meal was not favoured. We both got fettuccine Alfredo and couldn't finish our meals. It's one of our favourites and for us not to finish it is not like us. We both had a very hard time eating our meal.
My colleagues and I have been here a few times and it's always been great. However, this last time, we had a party of 7 and the service was not great. The server took a long time to take our order, and she wasn't very friendly. We had to ask for popovers and she said she could give us a couple, however, we were hoping for 1 per person, as we had at prior experiences. She just wasn't attentive or friendly.
Consistently great food! Love the popovers, pear and chicken salad and the salmon.
I took out of town guests to the Downtowner on Wednesday evening. The food was great. The atmosphere is always warm and cozy, particularily during this evening as it was snowing and blowing out. The server was fine, she was a little slow and not in tune to our non-verbal cues.
So many Twin Cities restaurants—new and old. This one is a keeper, and I’m reminded of that each time I return.
I took a friend here with some dietary restrictions, and the menu and our server were so accommodating.
It was a cold winter day, and the big fireplace was being serviced. In spite of that, warmth was felt from the staff, the food and the ambiance !
Parking was a nightmare. With a hockey game on Saturday, almost every lot was full. I think people who are dining at the restaurant should not be allowed to hold a parking place in the lot for the whole evening.
Always reliable for delicious food. We're never disappointed. Also cozy atmosphere.
I come here quite often for business breakfast and lunches, and I am never disappointed with the overall experience. The service is always friendly, the food well done and probably delivered, and the prices are fair. Everything you would like in a comfortable meal, plus you can hear yourself talk.
My family was visiting for the first time in a year and I wanted to try a new cozy brunch spot before an event. The atmosphere was wonderful, food was delicious (we had eight different items off the Sunday breakfast menu), the hostess was WONDERFUL, but our server was the only negative (inattentive, I had to wave her down for clearing stuff off the table to make room for meals, flag her for anything else we needed, and she never checked back plus ran away immediately, and had to flag her for the check, too. And I NEVER flag people down or call out for help, but I wanted my family to have a wonderful experience especially for the money I was spending). I would go back and recommend it, but service once seated was so disappointing I would probably leave if that happened again (not one to ask to switch sections or tables).
The Downtowner is the best restaurant on west 7th street. Food, service, atmosphere, ect, it's my family's go to place when it's time to go a nice dinner!
Service was fantastic, ambiance was great and food was excellent. I will definitely be going back again.
We were super excited to celebrate my birthday with our kids. The food was OK.....not great. And at 9:00 they said "Last call". We were just settling in to visit. Wow. Prolly won't go back there any time soon.
I had the grilled lamb on kabob, my favorite dish there. Love their basmati rice, and the lamb was tasty but chewy; possibly it could have been a bit more tender, but I still love this place. The staff and management were welcoming and checked on us several times without being intrusive. The atmosphere is excellent too.
Filet Mignon was the best I ever had. The ribeye was very disappointing. Meat was tough, thin, and seemed like a low quality cut. For $35 I was expecting much better quality. The calimari was fantastic as well as the old fashioned. Overall a fairly good experience. I would go back for the filet mignon.
Always a good and very comfortable place to go for a meal
We were there for a family (6 of us) late lunch, early dinner on a Sunday. My husband and I love this restaurant and dine here several times a year. The service is always great and so is the food. The only bummer on this occasion was our food was luke warm at best, and while it wasn't busy it took longer than usual to get our food so sending it back wasn't worth the wait. And, the menu on a Sunday afternoon is kind of limited so keep that in mind. We did have a lovely time as a family and overall it was a nice afternoon. We will be back.
Took the family there for a reunion brteakfast. We were seated by a fireplace and had a wonderful time. Check them out.
I love the chicken omelette at this place! The food is consistently very good.
Food was great and staff was friendly and stopped by on several occassions to say hi and interact with my 2 year old son.
Food was delicious! We sat there for probably 10 mins before someone checked on us. They cut the person in our section and didn’t realize we were there. After that was taken care of our evening was great!
Downtowner is a go to for us before and after Wild games. I was somewhat disappointed with my meal this time, I had the grouper special it seemed a bit over cooked, The presentation was lovely though! I typically like the fish specials here! Especially halibut, And they accommodated our group of 6 very well.
We love the Downtowner for their delicious food and quiet ambience. We can feel comfortable bringing a party of one or ten and still be able to hear each other. The service is excellent.
Absolutely perfect for a birthday, still our favorite place to dine. The best old fashioned I ever had. Thanks. Can’t wait to come back.
Great food in all price ranges. Great atmosphere
Met coworkers for a working lunch. Restaurant noise was quite so you could have conversations and be able to hear. Good food and prices are very reasonable.
We have been here before, but had breakfast for the first time on Sunday. Every trip has been excellent food, service, and friendly staff. We highly recommend this place. Thank you again, Downtowner.
Always wonderful! A great menu with great service!!
We love the Downtowner, especially for weekend breakfasts!
