I'd love to give them 5 stars on everything, but the overall ambiance was so LOUD!!! It was incredibly NOISEY...was there for a birthday dinner with family and we were shouting to be heard by one another. Food - EXCELLENT, Service: Outstanding! Love the overall look but Noise level was deafening. Sorry, Downtown Louie's....any way you can tone down the noise level??
Everything about this place is eh. We asked for a booth and the hostess told us no. Even though there were open booths. The food was eh, service eh, ambiance eh. Would not go back
The first time we went to Downtown Louie's it was really wonderful. This time the food and service was only okay. My lamb burger was very dry even though I asked for medium rare. My husband said his pasta was fine. Our server was very nice, but it took a couple tries to get silverware.
The cocktails were the one thing that were just as good as the last time we were here.
Calamari was a bit tough, my old fashioned was more sugar than anything else. Overall though the main courses were really good, service was excellent, and the atmosphere was great too. I'd be willing to give this place another shot
Super clean. Very tasty. Would definitely go back!
went before the tiger game. i was expecting a little better food. out waitress was very nice and gave us excellent service.
Food was prompt and delicious. Portions were appropriate, but not generous. Service was solid but unimpressive. Would return.
Great find! We loved the ambiance, and the server was on top of filling drinks and checking back. We were on a time crunch since we were going to a show and it all worked out well. Food was great, we’ll definitely be back!
Great food and good service. Definitely would return for a good meal prior to an evening event around the D.
Had date night here, have been wanting to check this place out for a while. Great service, food was fantastic. Will be coming back.
This was our first visit. Loved the interior! Service was excellent as was the food and the craft cocktails!!! Will definitely recommend and return.
Location is great for a dinner before a show and is right in the middle of great shopping and Comerica Park. Plenty of close parking options. The food was very good, though I wish their menu was a little bit bigger! We had fish and chips, mushroom risotto, and garlic rosemary fries - all delicious. Nice cocktail menu too - the Transformer was very tasty. Nice ambience overall and staff were all very friendly and prompt.
Great food and service. Nice place- wasn’t too crowded or busy.
Amazing burgers, went with a group of 5and we all got different burgers.no one was disappointed.
The filet is one of the best I have had. Service is top notch as well.
Our new go to for dinner in Detroit.
Ordering salmon comes with a lot of anxiety. A medium temperate seems nearly impossible to get. Not tonight! The salmon dish was simple, cooked perfectly and seasoned well! The man tending bar was incredibly attentive, engaged and very friendly. I’d recommend this restaurant for single travelers or group travelers.
Love, love, love this place. This was the first time dining there and I thank open table ! We had a delicious meal. The waitress was wonderful! The atmosphere was so nice. I was in aww with the beautiful woodwork. A hidden gem in Detroit!
The menu on OpenTable is not the menu they have in the restaurant. The server said that open table has not been updated in a while. The OpenTable menu is much better than the one in the restaurant. Great wine selection and Bar. Food was basic.
Food was great, great atmosphere, but there was a group of people next to us ( young women who obviously had too much wine to drink) who were loud and using expletives. I thought that one of the waiters could have politely told them to lower their volume as they were obviously too loud, drinking too much and causing a disturbance to others.
Service was a little slow. We had reservations, walked in, and stood near the front door for 5-7 minutes before someone even approached us even when there was a big sign that clearly stated “Please wait to be seated”. Then someone approached and asked if we were waiting to eat dinner? We gave them our name and indicated reservations and were seated. Waitress took our drink orders, brought them to us and disappeared for 10 minutes before we had to flag her down for menu and service. We ordered ( food was great—turkey burger and lamb burger), told her that we were going to show at Fox. She came back 25 minutes later, asked how food was and left a check on the table. MIA for 10 minutes, so we flagged her down and asked for dessert menu. “Oh.. you want dessert?”. We ordered dessert ( delicious brownie with ice cream) and then had to flag down another waiter to get our check again.
We tipped generously in spite of the mediocre service in hopes that management will read this and help their servers by hiring more people or training them better because the location is great, restaurant has great ambiance and food is really good!
Even though it sat a lot of people, it felt cozy and intimate. Great place for a drink and a burger. Will definitely go back.
Totally pleased with our small group outing. Sat upstairs and really enjoyed the whole experience. Just a few blocks from The Fox, where we walked to afterward for a show.
I was very disappointed with our table. It was directly behind the hostess stand in a cumbersome location right in the middle of where all the servers need to walk. I asked if we could have another table that wasn't right in the middle of all of the commotion. There were several empty tables. We were told no, that was the only table. It was not an enjoyable experience.
Took my boyfriend for a birthday dinner, the food was good and probably would have been better if it was hot when it got to the table. Service was a little slow it did seem a bit busy so maybe more servers would help with this. Other than that the drinks were good and the food was good I just wish it would have got to the table hot
The good wasn’t as this good this time around and the service was slow.
We enjoyed our first time dinner at Downtown Louie's. We honestly found the place on Open Table while searching for somewhere we could get in downtown on a Saturday night. Very pleasant place to hang out, our waiter actually discouraged us from ordering a food item - honesty like that always appreciated. Enjoyed the room, the ambience, the food. We will be back for a second meal - and THAT'S a compliment.
Great dinner! Several vegan options, we will be back!
Great location and nice vibe to the restaurant and bar.
Menu was a bit limited. I had the MICHIGAN salad with salmon, it was prepared beautifully and was delicious!
Great food and service. However, it is outrageous to charge $4 extra for a tiny bowl containing a few razor-thin slices of bread.
I love this joint! The food is prepared beautifully and there's something on the menu for everyone (including vegetarians). The bar service is outstanding - this is a fun place to hang out and the Transformer cocktail is totally worth $11 (so I had 2). My reservations have always run smoothly, even when the place is packed, and there's good surface parking just across the street. Louie's never lets me down and has become one of my favorite restaurants in the city.
Reserved table ready right away. Great service and friendly staff. Had THE BEST burger and loved the rosemary garlic fries. Drinks were a little pricey but good. We will definitely be back!
THE ONLY DOWNSIDE WAS THAT WHEN ASKING TO ADD PEOPLE TO OUR TABLE WE WERE TOLD NO BECAUSE THEY "SQUEEZED" US IN. WHEN I OBVIOUSLY HAD A RESERVATION.
Burgers and sandwiches are good. Fries that came with had good flavor but seemed to be the last of the batch with small broken bits versus full fries.
Drinks good. Service excellent. Request to have upstairs table denied.
Would recommend overall.
For downtown the price was inline. The happy hour deals were great. Love the charm of the outside and the inside of building. I'd go again!!!!
The restaurant was great, as always. Thank you to the host, waitress, chef and owner. We will be back.
Good environment to still be able to hear your party. Good food.
The steak tips appetizer was outstanding. The mushroom gnocchi was too except the portion was exceedingly small and over priced. Which leads me to my biggest critique of Downtown Louie's: value. The ambiance is akin to an upscale sports bar and can be quite loud before any sporting event. Service is average and wait staff don't appear to be too familiar with the menu. I want to like this restaurant but its prices and portions keep me from doing so. Great chef but the restaurant fails to deliver a quality overall experience.
This was my first time visiting this restaurant. And I absolutely loved the interior design and ambiance of the room. I will definitely return
We had an amazing dinner!!! Great food and drinks. The house salad with steak was amazing. Truffle fries to die for!!!
Always reliable and consistent dining experience. Was able to get a last minute RSVP for an enjoyable meal and drinks before a night out in the town. Great central location to the city is a great bonus.
