We had dinner at the Downing Street Pour House on a Saturday evening after a day at the Legends of Golf Tournament. It is a little tricky to find if you have not been there before; but worth the hunt. It is located in a very nice little business area with lots of shops. It is across from a scenic tour train station (which kids would enjoy). There was a little confusion when we first arrived. We had made reservations thru OpenTable and waited at the front to be seated. The wait staff who walked by kept saying "seat yourself" and there was a sign that indicated that. We saw a table with a reserved sign on it and wondered if that was for us; but we did not want to assume. The place was busy (it is rather small) and we could not get someone to stop so we could ask about our reservation (kept being told "seat yourself"). We finally talked to someone at the bar and explained the situation. He seemed very surprised and said that they were unaware that they were part of OpenTable and did not take reservations. I suggested that they may want to check on this as we had not only made a reservation thru the OpenTable system; but had received emails and text messages as the evening approached (and we now have received this email requesting a review). Anyway, we told him we would be happy to sit at the bar. He came back a short time later and said he had a table (the one that had the reserved sign on it). No big deal--we sat down for dinner. After the initial confusion, everything was great. Dylan, our server was very helpful and friendly. we ordered the pretzel (which was huge and very good. Great selection of beers on draft. They are known for their burgers; so my wife had the Mushroom burger and I had the Black and Bleu burger. Both were very good and the fries were very good also. We would recommend the Downing Street Pour House for nice casual dining experience. Just hope they get the OpenTable arrangement worked out.

Exploring new options based on Open Table connections, we came upon this one located in an out-of-the-way downtown section of Hollister. For what we were after, it filled the bill (and us) appropriately. It was rather small, on a "main" street with a few outside tables although to chilly for that. It is basically a bar/grill setting without much on the fancy side. Knowing we would probably go for dessert, we passed on any appetizers although there were some available of the typical bar variety. The special of the night was a Chicken Fried Prime Rib. Yep, never heard of it. It was a respectable portion of roasted prime rib, quite lean, coated with a tasty batter and quickly fried crisp and covered with a well-season and steaming hot beef cream gravy on some good, lumpy smashed potatos. I subbed in cabbage for green beans after seeing it on the menu. All was quite good and plentiful, as you might expect from a back street, local, bar/grill. The other entree was a roasted 1/2 chicken which was flavorful, well-cooked and falling off the bone. A pesto-esque (called Salsa Verde) sauce top the bird, good flavor and consistency. Some spuds and steamed teamed green beans and cherry tomatoes came with the bird. Both entrees were well-consumed and enjoyed, each priced under $20. Well worth it. Pour House had an acceptable wine list, limited by the glass but more expansive by the bottle. The singular disconcerting event; the bottle of wine we ordered came to the table already opened rather than the usual table side task. I should think a table side event would be no more expensive and worth much more in presentation. Finished with a massive piece of great caramel bread pudding. I mean, MASSIVE and quite sufficient for two. It was a good closer! Most likely we will return when in the mood for casual pub food with a good scald on it. Probably venture into the more traditional pub options on the menu.

Food was decent. Service was ok. My order was messed up twice. Ordered the Chicken Curry soup and got the French Onion instead. Was already irritated cause I ordered the Pub Plate which was suppose to have smoked salmon on it but they were out. The kitchen staff failed to let our server know of the 86'd item before the food was brought out by a different server. I mentioned the missing item and our server attempted to make right by promising to give the Pub Plate half off. When the bill came there was only a 25% discount. Wanted to say something but the damage was done. Will not return again.
