We had reservations during a very busy hour and the staff was very accommodating and had our table ready 15 minutes early, great dining!
It’s a trendy spot right across the Yum! Center. However, the food isn’t great and the drinks are a little pricy. Staff is a bit snooty but the service was good and our server was attentive. All in all, you can’t beat the location if you’re coming in for a concert or event.
We have been enjoying the patio all summer. We had relatives in from out of state this past weekend. We made reservations for Saturday evening. The music by Doug Pinson was great and we had the best server. I don’t recall her name, but she made our evening so enjoyable.
For happy hour I would. Price wise for drinks was pretty pricey
For drinks. Food ok but wife found French fries in salad. Weird. Service great.
The food was very good! I had a pork taco & a brisket taco. It was very busy. Our server was NOT friendly. My friend asked if they had a certain liquor. He never came back with an answer, leaving her with no drink. When he finally reappears, she asks him about it & he says I don’t know, I’ve been busy. We believe the appropriate response should have been, I’m so sorry , it’s busy & I forgot to ask. He did not care at all, never offered to go ask bartender, just took a different order from her. We still tipped, but he didn’t deserve it at all. We had to flag another worker for our bill.
First time at this restaurant and was really excited to check it out. Overall I think the atmosphere is fantastic and really enjoyed the unique patio with greenery. Additionally the food and quality of bourbon selections were fantastic. Unfortunately a lot of this was overshadowed by extremely poor service. Our waitress not only didn’t check on us often but could easily be seen chatting at the host station while we were waiting to order our food. The bourbon flight that we ordered was delicious but the service in which it was delivered was poor and no identification of the different spirits was given until we asked. Additionally she had to come back and ask us sides for our entrees, one of which was still left off in the end! Then when we finally were able to ask for our check she didn’t seem to even understand what we were saying until it was repeated multiple times. I hate giving poor service reviews as I used to be a server years ago but this was truly poor. Either there is more training to be done or there are some people working there that are better fitted for other, less demanding jobs. Really overshadowed a lovely evening.
Was there for lunch - service was good, our food arrived quickly as did the check (they apparently do this to attract those working downtown with tight schedules) it was a good experience - I will go back.
Got here a bit early. There was no clear place to check in. I just stood for a while. Finally someone asked if I needed anything. I said a table and he seated me. From that point one it was a fine experience. I had a selections of tacos which were better than I expected. Other than the beginning, it was a fine experience.
Great service. Inside and outside options.
Had a great dinner date here with my husband. The service was fast & the food was great. The staff was friendly. I definitely will go back
Great atmosphere and bourbon prices were largely fair. I liked the grouping of bourbons by mash bill. While they have an extensive list of bourbons and ryes, many were not available and the bartender acknowledged the list badly needs updating. Even though there were only a few at the bar, wait staff were more focused on chatting with themselves. I was hoping for some expertise and suggestions to try some new bourbons.
Disappointed in this place; it seemed more like a community pool food window then a restaurant on Open Tables....ugh....... food seemed old and stale....drinks overpriced.
Definitely disappointed in this experience after Yelp made it seem premiere for bourbon and delicious food. The bourbon was over priced, the food was subpar, and it was not kid friendly - no changing tables in either bathroom.
Nice patio seating. The fish sandwich and fries were great. The prices were very good.
Prices were reasonable. The old fashioned was not well made. The nachos and brisket grilled cheese were good. The side salad was okay.
Our server was great she made sure we made it to show on time.
Outstanding brisket! Had the bbq brisket sandwich with the jalapeno coke slaw.
The service was horrible. We were seated and then we waited 30 minutes before we had to complain that we had not had any service and the restaurant was not busy at the time. I would NOT return.
Terrible service waited 45 for drink
Too bad! It has a cool vibe atmosphere but service was terrible. They had mixed postings of their open time for Saturday and the blocked the whole right side of the restaurant for 8 pm reservations and we were there at 6pm, so we were stuck on the side where it was freezing with the garage doors open. Server didn’t speak fluent English.
It was after Oaks. Very happy to get table. Everything was great!
Did not enjoy. Just a bar. With bar food. Crowded after Oaks races.
They give us a Hot Brown with queso.... and said it was gravy! The drinks were ok but not worth the price. I would not go back ever. It was not worth it at all!!
Service very slow. Waitress wasn’t kind. Food was just ok.
Patio is nice.
Chips and quest were good but the burger was not my favorite. Chewy bacon, unmelted cheese and not cooked to the temp requested. Overall, not bad but I would try other things first before I returned. On the plus side, they have a nice selection of bourbons and other drinks available. Local beer choices too and is really convenient to the arena and local theaters.
This place was wonderful. We went with an out of town work group to show them some of Louisville and the Urban Bourbon Trail. The food was REALLY good and the drinks were yummy. There were only 2 negatives. the first is the noise level was a little much to continue work conversations. And the second is we were wanting to provide a good bourbon experience to the out of towners, but our server said she didn't know anything about bourbon and couldn't make any good recommendations.
It was fine for what we were doing. They have a good selection of bourbons (little pricy for the pour but not unreasonable) food was good, service was lacking. I'm just assuming the waitress was new, I may try again, not sure.
Yes, but not prior to a game or event at the Yum Center. It was way too crowded and the noise level was over the top. Couldn't even talk to each other. We would like to go back when there is not an event taking place..
The drinks and food were good, but difficult to enjoy them due to the crowd.
It's a bar with bar food, not much more. Was disappointed that my first three selections from the bourbon menu were not available. Taco's were good, but not spectacular. Service was decent, just a little slow given the events going on in town for the weekend. I would go back again, just with lowered expectations before my first visit.
Liked food & atmosphere, but service was very very slow. So many places these days do not want to sell beer it seems.
Trip to Louisville for the NCAA Tournament. Great selection of bourbons, of course! Great appetizers and food. Very friendly wait staff. Live music when we were there Friday night.
I and a guest each ordered different “flights” of bourbon. Our server was excellent in recommending different choices for each of us! I was impressed with how knowledgeable she was!
Great ambiance, conveniently located close to Actors Theatre. The food and cocktails were excellent.
Dinner was great, drinks were great, fun yet relaxing atmosphere. Only thing was the banana pudding wasn't available, which was a bummer! Otherwise, we enjoyed our dinner here and will look to return in the future.
The food was delicious, and our server Ryan was great!
This was a last minute reservation we were able to get. The food was delicious but I did have a couple complaints. The first one was the condiment bar- if you’re paying a higher price for food, I don’t think you should have to go get condiments yourself. My biggest complaint was the service. We sat at our table for over 5 minutes, with several servers passing us by. Nobody came to get our drink order. I finally had to ask the hostess who our server was and she went to get someone. A server finally came over (apologizing) to say she would take care of us because our server was busy. The waitress we had was great but it was a little disappointing it took that long (when there were only 4 other tables around us, and 5 different servers passing by us). The cheeseburger and side salad was delicious though and the food came out quickly!
Unless you're in Louisville for a convention and need to vent after a day of meetings-this is not a place to relax and have a quiet evening with conversation. I must say up front, we do not drink bourbon-so we can't comment on their bourbon menu. The dinner menu is fairly basic bar type food. My tacos were uneventful and pretty dry-I did go to the condiment bar and get some extra salsa though-My fish sandwich also needed some help, but we asked our waiter for some tartar sauce and never got it- he was run off his feet with large parties.
The noise level was out of control. We were forced to sit in the bar area as the dining room with normal tables had a group in it. That means you are at the very high bar tables and chairs, which means I can't touch the floor or the rungs of the chair with my 5'1'' height!
The reason we chose Down One was its proximity to the Kentucky Center, so we could walk to a performance easily-at least that worked for us!
Great pub food and easy location to get to The Yum Center for a concert.
