The food was simply not good at all, especially for a Michelin Star rated restaurant. I think their CIA teachers would be ashamed. It was 87 degrees inside when it was 100 degrees outside. The bread was cold. The drinks were good and the service was wonderful. The staff was excellent.
Like a champion athlete, Dovetail went out at the top of its game, undefeated after a reign of over a decade as the best restaurant on the Upper West Side. We went for the final dinner last Saturday night, as much as to say good bye as to celebrate with one last great meal. The champ did not disappoint. Every dish was superb. The lamb was the best in memory and the wine pairings were intelligently, imaginatively, chosen. The service and the mood of the diners was celebratory. Everyone wanted the place to go out at its best. I await the next act. The owners and most of the staff will be back in two months with a new restaurant. Equaling Dovetail will be a great challenge. My money is for them to come back different but wonderful, aspirating to new heights.
We will Miss Dovetail!!
The best restaurant on the UMS. Too bad it is closing. This is a big loss for the area.
Wonderful in all respects. Very sad they are renovating at the end of the month but looking forward to seeing what they have in store.
Great dining experience, pricey but worth it especially for special occasions (we went on a birthday).
Almost everything was very good. Black sea bass tartare was fishy and needed to be returned. They happily replaced the dish. I would say the staff is not as knowledgable as I've come to expect in Michelin-starred restaurants, but they were entirely pleasant. While it's not three-star Le Bernadin, the seafood dishes were delicious. I would definitely return for another $300 meal.
Oh, almost forgot. The bread - definitely some of the best. Compliments to the baker. I want another piece!
Glad I went, Not broken up over its impending closure
Restaurant is beautiful and staff is terrific. I wasn’t that thrilled with the tuna. Great quality and freshness but not that flavorful. Chocolate soufflé for dessert was terrific, and of course the amuse bouche and palate cleansers were wonderful.
Had the dinner tasting menu on June 14th with a friend over the course almost three hours. All of the dishes were excellent, save one, and comparable with other top NYC Michelin one and two starred restaurants. And that dish may have been as the chef intended but was not what it might have been.
Service was excellent and not intrusive. The staff was charming, helpful and professional. Noise level, while not subdued, was certainly comfortable and permitted quiet conversation. Decor and atmosphere were OK but unremarkable.
I would certainly go there again.
Every staff member made me feel welcome and comfortable dining alone. Had thechefs tasting menu with reserve wine pairing and everything was flawless. The ambiance was perfect for dining alone or for a romantic group. The decor was tastful and suited the room and energy perfectly. Will be back for sure.
Good food and great service. Overpriced but it’s worth for an occasional Dinner - not a place you would go on a regular basis...
Very flavorful and creative food. Limited to tasting menu or 3 or 4 courses Prix fixe with a good variety of options for the Prix fixe. We each had the 3-course and were thoroughly satisfied (as well as full due to our late lunch). Especially given the amuse bouche, the palate cleanser and the after treats. Visiting from California, the well executed New York service was a much-anticipated treat.
The reserve wine pairings with the four-course prix fixe were inventive and delicious, including several bottles with considerable age on them. It's great that they offer wine pairings (ordinary and reserve) with the 3- and 4-course pris fixes and with the 7-course tasting menu.
Incredible meal - this is a special occasion type of experience and every aspect of the meal (food, service, etc) was outstanding. Highly recommend!
GREAT, Outstanding Service, food, Ambiance atmosphere. Romantic and alive.
As always food and service was fabulous. Great wine list
So glad to have such a terrific restaurant on the UWS!
Fantastic it expensive, great special occasion option for vegetarians
Dovetail always provides a superior meal in gracious surroundings with fine service. What else can one ask for?
This is our favorite special occasion place. So elegant, and such marvelous food. Very expensive, or we'd go more often. But I guess quality comes at a price. Loved the lamb, chocolate soufflé worth every calorie.
Wow! This was a real treat for us and it didn’t disappoint. The service was amazing and the food was fantastic, so imaginative and beautifully presented.
Me and my fiancée had an absolutely wonderful experience. This was my proposal dinner and the restaurant staff made it extra special by creating “Will you marry me?” desert plate for us! Food and service was impeccable! I highly recommend this restaurant for fine dining and special occasions! ❤️
For maybe a decade or so now, Dovetail has consistently been the best "fine dining" spot on the Upper West Side. A lot of places in this neighborhood open up strong but then tend to lower their standards over time. If anything, Dovetail just gets better.
Superb food -- all the courses excellent, meat and fish. Efficient service. Good but pricey wine list -- a few values if you look hard. Honest sommelier.
Dovetail has to be among the best restaurants in NY. Lovely dining room with well spaced tables and quiet !! They have a tasting menu, with vegan option, and a la carte menu. I had the tasting menu with optional wine flight. Outstanding is the only word to describe the experience. Food, service, ambience. You simply cannot do better.
There is a very peaceful and calm atmosphere here. It’s nice to come in and relax after a bustling day in NYC. The food is prepared and presented beautifully. The cocktails were innovative and delicious. The amuse bouche and little extras during the meal are wonderful addition to the meal. The chocolate soufflé is the best I’ve ever had. The only criticism I could offer, would be improved communication between the many staff members that attend to the same table, it gets a little confusing.
Went back to Dovetail for the first time in ages -- and were pleasantly surprised. Yup, it's still expensive but the menu is full of interesting choices, everything beautifully prepared and elegantly presented, the room is pretty and quiet, and the staff is professional and friendly. Will look forward to going back.
Dovetail remains the single best restaurant on the west side of Manhattan and is among the very best in New York City.
This was our first time having their spring menu. We all had the Sundae Suppa, two of us having wine pairings and the third having handcrafted cocktails. Every dish was stunning, inventive, creative, and perfectly prepared. The service was warm, attentive, knowledgeable, all that one could ask for.
We plan on returning as soon as possible.
My family was celebrating my son’s graduation from NYC graduate school. The service and as always the food and wine were incredible. Thank you for making the festivities truly wonderful !!!
Nice to finally find an upscale restaurant that has vegetarian options that are not a side dish or an afterthought! Wonderful dining experience!
Mother’s Day
The food was really delicious, well prepared, and nicely put on the plate, mainly meats. Loved the squab and the lamb. Yummy, and all I expected from a 1 star restaurant.
However, the price of hte wine is insanely outrageous, I almost decided to drink water that night. This is absolutely not what I expected from a 1 star restaurant.
There is almost no choice if you want to keep the bottle Under 100$
For that reason, I am not sure I would recommend it. Or I would recommend it to people who don't drink wine.
Great meal along with attentive professional staff, would come back over the Atlantic to taste again......
Went to Dovetail for the first time this weekend to celebrate Mother’s Day with my wife. The decor is very nice. We were seated in the back room, which was good because the front room seemed a little noisy as we walked through.
We chose the four course dinner with upgraded wine pairing. Service was excellent - start to finish. Not at all stuffy, but very attentive. The food was outstanding and the sommelier did a fine job pairing. We will be back again.
A great restaurant although the menu is a little limited.
Fabulous, delicious and all of the superlatives I could list would describe the delectable cuisine.
Highly recommended!
Great food and service but very expensive.
Lovely dining experience. Food very interesting. Service impecable.
Poor waitstaff. Less than what would be expected. Little guidance on selections of wine or food.
