Dovetail está situado a solo unos pasos del Museo Estadounidense de Historia Natural y del Central Park, en la zona Upper West Side de Manhattan. We enjoyed a 3 hour food experience at Dovetail ordering the full tasting menu and the vegetable tasting menu with wine pairing. Service was excellent and well paced. Most courses were very delicious if not particularly inventive. I was disappointed in the overly salty polenta and heard the people next to us complaining about the same thing. Heard everything the people next to us said. The party of four was so loud, we couldn't talk to each other when they were talking.

Nice room. Nice wine. Food was way too salty and ate only .5 the items on the tasting menu. May be our last trip as not worth the price tag

We had the chef's tasting menu and it was outstanding. My wife had the vegetarian and I had the other choice. Both wonderful. Equally important was that upon being seated we were disturbed by a loud, crying child at an adjacent table. I politely mentioned it and the maitre'd moved us to a nice quiet area for our anniversary dinner. Don't bring small kids to this restaurant please.

We had to wait more than 30 minutes for our table . My date and I shared 1 regular tasting menu, and one vegetable tasting menu. The sommelier was excellent and fun and made the wine tasting very interesting. The food was very good but never crossed over into amazing which I expect at a restaurant of this level. I like a course to dazzle me with different shades of flavor across the plate. It's most exciting when each bite brings a different layer of complexity to the palate. I felt that the dishes at Dovetail were competent but lacking these layers.

Dovetail was a simply wonderful dining experience, and it far exceeded my expectations. As residents of the UWS, I had no idea that this gem existed in the neighborhood! My husband and I did the 7 course tasting meal, and everything we tried was delicious. From the freshly made house baked bread to the numerous small bites they surprised us with to the actual dishes, all was so so tasty. What surprised us the most was how substantial the dishes were--the snapper was like a meal in and of itself and Wagyu beef was very plentiful. The service was attentive, friendly, and had perfect timing--they were never in your face or overly sycophantic. And they also let us substitute out the dessert from the pre-fixe meal for another on the ala carte menu, which we greatly appreciated. They were so reasonably minded, which you don't always get in this classy of a restaurant.

We tried Dovetail because of the high zagat ratings. We were extremely impressed not only with the food but service as well. Everything was amazing starting with the beef ravioli, to the spinach and artichoke crostata and the lamb saddle. The wine list was extensive and had something for every budget and taste.

If you're vegetarian just don't bother with this atrocity. How two spears of undercooked asparagus and a miniscule crostata (overly sweet - overly salty with a smoked meat flavor) constitute two full courses here are beyond me. The corn polenta drowning with truffles was weirdly flavorless (were the truffles frozen? This is the first time I tasted truffles that weren't divine). Go to in vino downtown and try their seasonal corn dish instead it's just so much better. The desserts were decent but I can hardly say they are a notch above what I usually eat. At over $100 bucks a person this place is an abomination. I haven't had to ask for a refill of water in a restaurant in a long time but here no one was actually filling glasses. Someone asked us if we wanted more bread but that only arrived with dessert. Candle and Blossom are real choices in the UWS. This place with its pretentious and precious menu of vegetables doesn't really get vegetables or vegetarians. I'm assuming their meat dishes are better because how else could they possibly be in business?

One of us felt a continuous flow of memories of elegant tastes. Layers of flavors for both of us were outstanding. The artichoke, pecorino crostata was outstanding according to both of us. The spice crust on the duck was a great surprise and cooked perfectly as was everything. The amuse-bouche at the beginning were bursting with delicious flavors. Everyone was welcoming and created an ambience of something special.
