Great service, food and ambiance. Highly recommended
One of the best restaurants in NY
I was looking forward to finally dining at Dovetail. Lovely place, quiet and elegant. A little too bland for me. The bread was good....
Our dinner at Dovetail was one of the most elegant, edifying, and well-executed meals we have had in New York (or anywhere, for that matter). The tasting menu was brilliant & refined, the service was thoughtful & warm, the ambiance was gorgeous, and the sommelier skillfully delivered on a superb wine pick after being given a very all-over-the-map explanation of our tastes. Exemplary level of professionalism all around. Dovetail is a complete gem and we plan on returning for future occasions & sharing this special restaurant with friends & family.
Quite a memorable dining experience. Everything was top-notch. It is on my must return to list.
Food execution near perfection. One could quibble about little things on the dishes but did not compromise the flavors that were intended, in hindsight, If i had to make one strong criticism, I would have sent the lamb rib eye back, just not the right pink texture and the duck ravioli was not warm enough when served.
A shout out to the pastry chef, Corie for the Rye Pavlova and Chocolate Souffle. Heavenly and elegant sweetness.
A very good wine list with fair prices and a genuinely user-friendly sommelier (Robin) that connected us with excellent wines and left me seduced to travel her wine path of recommendations.
Attentive service, that wants to make things right
An appropriate sense of energy that they want to excel and move the restaurant to the next level
Always wonderful. Didn’t love our entre this time. Service is the best in town. Always so special for us.
This was our first visit to Dovetail; it will not be the last. The dining room is elegant, the service a model of professionalism. The cuisine is excellent; creative, but without the bizarre excesses to which some pop-star chefs resort. Expensive, but well worth it.
We enjoyed the meal at Dovetail. The dishes were novel, interesting, tasty, and the presentations were very good. The lamb rib eye was especially good - there was a hint of something bitter that we really liked. However, the accompanying sauces and vegetables were a bit too much on the salty side. The duck ravioli appetizer was very good, but even for an appetizer, 2 ravioli seemed on the skimpy side. The salmon appetizer was excellent. The wine list did not have an adequate number of selections in the $80-100 price range. We also thought that the 3-course price was high for the value. One point about the ambience - the tables are close, and we were between 2 tables that ordered the tasting menu. The result was that half of the time we were eating, someone standing in the small space on one side or the other of our table was explaining in detail the various courses, including details about the wine selections, to our neighbors. So not really a private space for us.
A beautiful elegant restaurant with outstanding food and service.
Dovetail is our “go-to” fine dining restaurant, and they never disappoint.
Stellar in nearly every way. The tasting menu was perfection, with appropriately small portions, each delicious and unique . Only minor comment is that the dinner dragged out for about 3 hours (even after I asked the staff to try to speed up), but otherwise a very special experience.
Amazing food, service and love the whisky cart!
Great wine selections and cocktails are also great!!!
It truly is a wonderful treat to be at this restaurant in every way!
I’ve lived in NY for 18 years and Dovetail is easily the beat luxury, fine dining I’ve experienced. And without any pretentiousness. Staff was incredible, polite and professional. It was worth every single dollar and Will go again.
Always an interesting menu. Always delicious. Service was sketchy. We felt rushed which makes no sense given the expensive fayre.
Typically this is an exquisite restaurant that gets it right.
The food was excellent but it is very pricey. Much more expensive (the drinks especially) then I had realized.
Just spectacular everything was perfect
Very professionally run restaurant. Everyone working the tables seemed very knowledgeable. Would definitely comeback
Time after time Dovetail delivers one of the best dining experiences in the city...
Dovetail is a Michelin three star disguised as a one star.
I have been to Dovetail several times and i feel the portions are getting smaller and smaller... A bit ridiculous for the price of the food, despite excellent service.
The restaurant is not embarrassed to serve items that are ridiculously tiny. But it charges a lot. A restaurant for wealthy lilliputians.
So disappointed in our food. We have loved this place in the past, eating here numerous times. This time, food was tasteless, contrived, and really surprisingly poor. Hope this was just a bad night and that this restaurant can return to its former glory.
Amazing!! Beautiful restaurant and amazing food presentation ... Highly recommended!
Just the right tone of service and the food and wine list are absolutely perfect.
Celebrated my birthday here. Had a wonderful time. Staff was attentive and made it a lovely evening. The food was delicious. Loved the desserts!
Superb. Not my first time and it lives up to expectations and beyond. Outstanding good and service. Expensive and worth it.
We were at Dovetail for our anniversary and we’re treated specially but without condescension. The prix fixe Sunday Suppa was a great value for top of the line New York City food.
A terrific experience, terrific, innovative food time and time again.
We went before a show at The Beacon and was amazed at the service, quality of food, every bite was delicious,If you are a foodie then this is the place to go. It is expensive but worth it for a special occasion .
The food was amazing!! Very creative!! The service was perfect! Attentive without being pretentious or annoying. If you are going to select a special place to have an amazing food experience you will be glad you chose Dovetail!!
Sry small portions, pricy , excellent service though
we have loved this restaurant for years but over the past 12 months it deteriorated quite rapidly. We gave it another try and decided not to return anymore. Bread we had asked for took almost 15 minutes to come to the table...the water in our glasses was not filtered and smelled of chlorine; the food was fussy without flavor...the desert overly sweet to make up for lack of flavor.
Food and the Service were both beyond my expectations. Classy but not stuffy!!
Dovetail are our ‘go-to’ special occasion restaurant. They always deliver the best experience.
We were excited to eat at Dovetail as it had been recommended. The service was mediocre and the food was of uneven quality. The cost is simply not worth it -- we won't be back as there are too many great places in NYC. Dovetail is not one of them.
dovetail has a lovely environment and excellent food. the portions are a little small. I think it costs a little more than it needs to considering the size of the portions but the quality of the food is first class
Dovetail is our go-to place for very special occasions. The service is flawless; the food is interesting and delicious; but you pay for the excellence. Value is the one category in which I gave them less than 5 stars but, obviously, we think it's worth it because we keep going back.
I get a nine course tasting menu and my partner gets a four course dinner. The dishes are delicate. But I would expect a more artistic presentation. I recommend lobster, warm avocado, foie gras, wagyu beef, venison, and chocolate souffle. I don't recommend tuna, toffee tart.
Wanted to try a Michelin starred restaurant in NY and picked Dovetail - first impressions - warm reception at the door, shown to bar as table was still occupied - lady at the bar was fun, knowledgeable. Shown to table about 10 mins later. Wine list given promptly - we had to ask twice for a menu when after waiting no menu arrived but they wanted to take our wine order asap. We chose the a la carte - and selected the lobster starter - lovely, the mushroom/quinoa dish - too salty for us - we did not finish, venison - very good, chocolate soufflé - yum/ salted caramel tart - good. They did give us a complimentary additional dessert. Food and presentation good - restaurant very noisy and tables close together. We did the wine pairings. Our meal came to about $650 for that I had wished a little less noise and a bit more space.
