DoveCote Ratings and Reviews
Service was wonderful, helpful and very knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. Food was out of this world tasty and delicious! Excellent spot for foodie and wine adventure. Cappuccino is probably the best that I have ever had. The decor is very pretty and cozy and stylish. Fairly quiet for nice conversations. I will definitley be back. Loved my experience here. Excellent date spot.
We decided to eat at the bar which we generally like to do. There was a reunion of friends in the seats next to us that were having a very good time and a little loud and a bit tawdry. We’re not prudish but it was a bit uncomfortable. They were very nice chaps and glad they were enjoying themselves but it made for a quicker than normal evening. Food was outstanding though.
Food was fantastic, service was excellent and they recognized our anniversary which was nice. Size of the dining area was limited and was in close proximity to bar which got a bit loud. However, the design, décor, lighting helped in setting the ambiance. Will definitely visit again.
The food was very good. We’ve been wanting to try this restaurant since we love Ravenous Pig and Cask and Larder. The issue was with the service. We arrived at 8:30 p.m. and waited 5 minutes to be greeted by waiter. We ordered the bread and appetizers immediately since we were hungry. It was 9:10 when the waiter came back to fill our empty water when we had to let him know we had not even been served the bread. A manager came over a few minutes later and asked how everything was and we let him know that it had been about 45 minutes since we were seated and no food had been served. He went and checked on it and 5 minutes later we had bread and then appetizers. Our entrees came out right after so we didn’t even have time to finish the appetizers. We were very polite and didn’t complain. I eat out with fine dining several times a week and the few times this has happened, they usually comp something on the bill. Nothing was taken off the bill, not even the $3 bread that was delivered so late. This is not acceptable customer service on the part of the manager. I would like to give this restaurant another chance because the crudités were amazing and so was the eggplant. If we do go back, we are going to sit at the bar.
The ambiance and decor was really comfortable and perfect for a date!
What fell a bit short was the execution of the appetizers. My husband and I ordered the grilled octopus and the roasted bone marrow (both dishes we love and have had at many restaurants). The octopus was cooked till it was too chewy, but the accompanying sauces helped to distract from that. The roasted bone marrow was brought to us room temperature (I'm assuming that was more of a server-error), so it got cool quickly which congealed the marrow till it was almost solid like chilled butter, which is what it felt like to eat; the portion was very generous, so it's a shame we didn't find it palatable enough to finish.
For the main courses we went with the server recommendations of the breaded pork and chicken cassoulet; both were true to description, cooked to perfection, and very good. For a side dish the server recommended the honey fried Brussels sprouts, which we've had similar versions of (sans the honey),previously in other establishments; they were more towards the over-fried, so the overall flavor profile was "burnt outer leaves" instead of honeyed or sprouts (so we didn't finish those either).
The service was excellent, with several servers checking on us constantly. The wine selection was just right and not overwhelming. Time was tight for us, so we didn't get a chance to try dessert.
Based on other reviews, I can only assume they must have been having an off or under-staffed night (which is why we never said anything to any of the attentive servers, whom I'm sure would have made it right).
There were other entrees and starters that we were interested to try, and if we happen to need somewhere to eat before a show at Bob Carr (complimentary valet and a 6 min walk is tough to beat:), we will definitely still give it another try, especially since the ambiance and service was so nice that even though we left 3 of 5 dishes virtually uneaten, we both felt like we had a lovely time.
This restaurant has great ambiance. I think a beautiful ambiance is as important as great food and service. It's just a perfect place for a date, a friends get together or a business meal. My husband and I had late breakfast here. The food was delicious with an upscale and innovative twist. Quality ingredients really shined. Thumbs up for this restaurant.
Dined here many times for dinner and lunch. The menu is limited, most of the time food preparation is fine although not outstanding. This time, while the food was remarkably good, the restaurant was out of a red wine selection, a white wine election, cranberry juice needed to make a cocktail, half of the oyster selections on the menu, and a main course. Seems like it is a telling sign of a restaurant about to close down. Hope not, since it is a fashionable and upscale spot in a downtown sorely in need of more of this type of establishment.
So this is becoming a habit for us. We have fallen in love with the Lemon Thyme Chicken. It is probably one of the best chicken dishes we have ever had and we travel quite a bit. The service is always great. Our teenagers had the Hanger Steak and the Croque Monsieur -- they equally loved their entree. We shared ham & cheese beignets as a starter -- they left us wanting more! If you want good creative local food....look no further than DoveCoat.
DoveCote is charming and elegant. The restaurant is quiet, and the service is attentive and professional. There were five of us, and the food was outstanding. The portions were plentiful. The only catch is parking. If you are lucky, you can find on the street parking, or use the bank garage. At night, the area is too quiet to walk too far. Wish the restaurant has valet parking. It would make it much easier and safer.
